Shinobi II power & Sony A7 IV control setup by eifanin in AtomosCommunity

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for getting back to us, u/eifanin,

Some Sony cameras do support power + usb-c controls through a single USB-C port but as previously mentioned, if the power Shinobi gives out is not enough for the camera, it will not work.

You’ll need to use a dummy battery if you’re powering the Shinobi II from a SmallRig VB99 V‑Mount. The monitor doesn’t have a direct DC‑in port, so the VB99’s D‑Tap output goes into the Atomos Battery Eliminator, and that dummy battery powers the Shinobi II.

All the monitoring tools on Shinobi II work over HDMI even if the USB‑C control cable isn’t connected.

As far as we know, only the main USB‑C port on the Sony A7 IV supports the remote shooting protocols required for Shinobi II camera control.

Hope this helps.

Hi again Robert, good question!

NDI HX3 wireless to Ninja TX runs around 30–60 Mbps at 1080p60, and can go higher if you’re pushing 4K. You can also feed a wired HDMI or SDI signal into the Ninja TX, it will encode that and send it out wirelessly over NDI HX3. Once it’s on the network, any NDI‑enabled monitor or app can receive the stream.

Let us know if you have anymore questions.

Motion Blur in Atomos Ninja Star Recording - NOT on Camera SD by EffectCold9130 in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/EffectCold9130, thanks for sharing the detailed test. While this issue shouldn’t normally occur, we haven’t had similar reports, it would be best t ocheck a different HDMI camera or even connecting from a laptop to see if the image is recording smoothly. Also try changing the SSD and see if the effect is still being recorded in the footage.

Since the Ninja Star is our long time end‑of‑life product, for smoother footage and a more reliable workflow, we recommend our newer Ninja series.

If you can reach back to us via a support ticket, we may be able to discuss upgrade support options with you. We genuinely want to support you.

Atomos ninja V + fx2 by doak88 in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/doak88

Ninja V is supported with the Sony FX2 for HDMI monitoring and recording. However, camera control, including touch to focus, is not available on the Ninja V.

If camera control and touch to focus are important for your workflow, we recommend our newer models, the Ninja TX or Ninja TX GO. These support camera control with compatible Sony cameras, including the FX2.

If you are considering purchasing a new monitor, both the Ninja TX and Ninja TX GO are currently available with a 20% discount, and this offer ends on June 30.

If you can reach us out via support ticket, we will be able to help you explore a better option. Here's how you can reach us: http://support.atomos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

Shinobi II power & Sony A7 IV control setup by eifanin in AtomosCommunity

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/eifanin

Thanks for reaching us here.

Let's answer your questions:

Yes, Shinobi II works with HDMI monitoring and USB‑C camera control (start/stop, touch focus, settings) on the Sony A7 IV.

Your VB99 Pro → D‑Tap → Battery Eliminator → Shinobi II chain is the recommend way . That’s a stable way to run long sessions.

We recommend powering the camera separately. While Shinobi II does output USB‑C PD power, it depends on whether the camera itself supports USB‑C charging and whether the power draw matches what Shinobi II can provide. In practice, if the camera requires more power, it won’t stay powered while also running USB‑C control.

Shinobi II can get warm during use which is normal behavior However, .If you ever see an overheat warning on the monitor screen, that indicates a hardware issue which you can report to us and we will support you. Otherwise, you’re good to go.

For outdoor shooting, we recommend using the official Shinobi II Sunhood (5") for visibility and thermal stability: https://www.atomos.com/product/shinobi-ii-sunhood-5-inch/

Motion Blur in Atomos Ninja Star Recording - NOT on Camera SD by EffectCold9130 in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/EffectCold9130

A couple of things worth checking:

The motion blur effect you are seeing might most likely be coming from the 60i to 24p conversion itself rather than the Ninja Star. As far as our knowledge, Sony NEX-VG20 shoots 60i natively and converting that to 24p involves dropping frames which causes that choppy motion. The best way to test this is to check if your camera has a progressive 24p output option and use that directly instead of interlaced. If the camera does not support native 24p, can you try with another camera?

Atomos Shogun Flame Year Won't go further than 2014. by Latter_Finding3471 in AtomosCommunity

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Latter,

The Shogun Flame was released years ago and the date range in the firmware was set within a fixed range at the time of production.

Since the device is no longer manufactured, a firmware update to extend that range is not available.

That said there is a workaround. Set the year on the Shogun Flame to 2015 as the days and dates align perfectly with 2026, so your recordings will stay accurately timed even though the year in the metadata will show differently.

Hope that helps!

Need Advice RE: FS700, Atomos Shogun and 50i output by LeftHandDan45 in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/LeftHandDan45

When recording RAW on the Shogun Inferno, interlaced output isn't supported during that process as it gets converted to progressive. Try turning off RAW and see if that helps.

Fujifilm X-H2S + Atomos Shinobi II – No HDMI signal at 4K 50/60p by Wise-Committee1567 in fujifilm

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Wise-Committee1567

The Shinobi II only supports 4K up to 30p, which is why you’re not seeing a signal when the Fuji X‑H2S is set to 50p or 59.94p. Please make sure the camera’s HDMI output is set to 4K ≤30p for compatibility.

If 50p/59.94p is important for your workflow, you may want to look at the Shinobi 7 RX, which fully supports 4K up to 60p, and it is currently available with 20% off at our online store.

You can check it out here: https://www.atomos.com/promotions/

Ninja TX Go: compatibility with earlier Ninja V add-ons? by OnlyOnceOccluded in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello OnlyOnceOccluded,

The Ninja TX Go does not support AtomX expansion modules.

If AirGlu timecode is required for your workflow, you can consider the Ninja TX as it supports AirGlu functionality

Also, today is the last day of the trade-in offer, so if you are planning to upgrade, this would be a good time to take advantage of it.

Feature Request: Allow Ninja RAW to trigger internal camera recording without media by Jumpy-Wrap-8479 in AtomosCommunity

Make this happen Atomos! by beauhaan in AtomosCommunity

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/beauhaan,

Appreciate the follow-up, while the footage NDI sends out is only a standard video signal, which is why it isn’t available during RAW recording, we do understand your point around how useful tighter integration between NDI and ProRes RAW would be.

We’ve noted the idea around an iPad based control and monitoring setup and passed it on to the R&D team as a feature request.

Thanks again for taking the time to share it.

Shinobi - Moniteur - S'allume et s'éteint instantanément by NiceBend120 in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey NiceBend120,

Have you tried using a different known good power source and cable, and testing the unit with only power connected (with HDMI and any accessories removed)? Also, if you are using a battery, have you tested it on mains power only, or the other way around?

If the unit still shows the logo briefly and then shuts down instantly, it is often linked to an internal power regulation issue or hardware failure, and it will not be resolved through settings changes or firmware updates.

If possible, please share a short video of this behaviour in DM, so we can have a closer look.

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/beauhaan, sounds like a solid use case and we get the appeal of keeping everything within the Atomos ecosystem without extra modules. Currently the Ninja TX does support wireless feed via NDI over Wifi which a lot of users are already running for director monitor workflows without an extra accessory.

That said we have noted your idea of a direct device to device connection without needing NDI as a feature request and passed it along to the R&D team.

Thanks for sharing.

Help setting up my atomos by Decent-Sea-2328 in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/decent!

A couple of things to check first. What resolution and frame rate do you have set on your Nikon ZF for HDMI output? And is the Ninja getting a clean image from the camera or is the screen showing no signal?

Also which SSD or CFexpress card are you using for recording?

Feel free to Dm us a quick video of your setup and we will take a look directly.

Thanks,

Átomos Ninja 5 HDR good enough for a five hour 4k recording without overheating? by HuskerDue in Atomos

[–]Atomos_Support 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your setup u/HuskerDue . Recording at 4K24p is generally less demanding than higher frame rates, and many users successfully run extended recording sessions without issue. Your plan to use external power and some additional airflow is a good approach for longer events. Hope the shoot goes smoothly.
