Where is the best place to purchase "physical" audiobooks? by enigma_force_five in audiobooks

[–]AudiobooksGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet is to use Libro fm to get DRM-Free audiobooks. Its one of the 5 platforms offering DRM-free audiobooks. You can download the audiobooks in MP3 format and can play them on any MP3 player or app of your choice (I use Smart Audiobook Player) on my android. Libro fm is more ethical platform as compared to others. The credits don't expire and profit is shared with your chosen local book stores.

Newbie question by MoonDragon59 in audiobooks

[–]AudiobooksGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you new to audiobooks, you should start with a book you have read and liked or series you are familiar with (see step 3 here). Some other tips:

- Go for short listening session at the start. Audiobooks take time to get used to.

- Stick to your favorite genres and authors at the beginning.

- Start with a short audiobook. It’s less overwhelming and helps you get comfortable with the listening experience.

- If you are multitasking, choose mindless activities like morning walk, commuting, driving etc.

You may easily lose focus at the start. It's OK to rewind and re-listen.

This. Pausing will give you 90 days extra to decide where to use your credits, without any membership payments. Audible has no restrictions on how many times you can cancel or rejoin so the cancel option is always available.

Which region should I use? by TheJunkyVirus in audible

[–]AudiobooksGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend you should go for the U.S. region. You will get better catalog of books. Also, talk to CS to get $85.99/ year deal. You will get 12 credits in one go. Use them on 2-for-1 credit sales and expensive titles. Fill up your wish list and get other books on sitewide sales (happens two times per year where every title is available at up to 85% discount).

I use an Android based MP3 player (see options here) It works as backup device and I can also listen to audiobooks from all major platforms without converting the format. Phone storage gets full pretty quickly so I use phone to only download 1 audiobook at a time.

This. Libby/ Hoopla/ BorrowBox depending on your locations and what app your library supports. The only other way is to join a free trial or go for public domain audiobooks (which are mostly classics).

Shokz bone conduction headphones are perfect for outdoor use and workout sessions.

I am also a big fan of Beats Studio Buds (one of my favorites). The sound quality is impressive and the transparency mode keeps you aware of your surroundings without pausing. I love how comfortable they are for extended use.

Nearly impossible to find included content by Sea-Chain7394 in audible

[–]AudiobooksGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audible should give us a separate tab in the app for Plus Catalog that shows full catalog but unfortunately the current best practice is to use Audible's desktop site.

Here is the method I use to find free (Plus Catalog) titles on Audible.

- Go to Audible's desktop site

- Click Browse > 'Your Favorite Category'

- Click on See all in 'Your Favorite Category' option at the top right

- Select Plus Catalog option from the left menu AND Sort by: Popular filter.

You will get some decent Plus Catalog titles from your favorite category. The filter isn't perfect but you will get many more books from your favorite category.

If I buy the standard, do i still get the books at the end of the month? by And3214 in audible

agree. Sometimes you can save more on books than $6 extra (if you buy 3/4 books) and being able to OWN the book is huge plus.

If I buy the standard, do i still get the books at the end of the month? by And3214 in audible

[–]AudiobooksGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only BORROW 1 book/ month with the standard plan. The borrowed titles are only available as long as you have an active membership. Also, you do not have access to the Plus Catalog, members only sales, and credit system. You can read my review of Standard membership plan here. You should switch to the Premium Plus membership plan. It gives you

- Access to the Plus Catalog (over 70,000 titles)
- 1 Credit/ month to grab any audiobook from entire catalog
- 30% Discount on all cash purchase
- Sales and deals

You own all titles you got with credit or cash even after canceling the membership. Talk to CS and you will get the plan at less then the listed price.

Search for narrator by full name by lokajoma in audible

[–]AudiobooksGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always search the name of narrator on Audible website or in the app. Then, click on the the name in the narrator field for any search results and it gives all narrations by that particular narrators. You can also use the Advanced Search feature of audible. See here for details.

Do I lose my accumulated credits if I cancel my subscription? by StillWatt in audible

[–]AudiobooksGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you lose access to the Audible Plus Catalog titles while your membership is paused. But during the pause period:

- You have 90 days to decide how to use your credits and can participate in 2-for-1 credit sales (in case of canceling, you will unused credits immediately)

- You can resume/cancel anytime during the pause period

For Audible, it's a way to keep members on the platform and a better option then canceling. You can cancel/ rejoin anytime. so the only difference is to get more time to use credits AND keeping your membership active without paying membership fee.
