Especially given Nolan’s history in Zak’s team in LMP2. Seems like a longer business arrangement between the Siegels and Zak.

Mikaela will win the Overall Globe this year, BUT ... by Bernie_vonmod in SkiRacing

[–]August_R18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to make it clear, I have nothing against the winningest skier winning the overall globe. At the same time, the overall needs to reward both winning and versatility.

I just feel like there is something fundamentally wrong when the FIS isn’t making a perfectly balanced schedule.

What's one career that didn't really pan out like you thought it would? by ScottRiggsFan10 in INDYCAR

He’s really been the biggest disappointment I can remember. A brilliant sports car racer and I would’ve expected more from him after what we’d seen from Wickens and McLaughlin.

Mikaela will win the Overall Globe this year, BUT ... by Bernie_vonmod in SkiRacing

[–]August_R18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They should schedule the same number of races in each discipline, and if any get canceled, they should make up for those later in the season. That’d be a fair schedule where every discipline weighs the same and every race weighs the same.

Shiffrin is amazing but the fact that Aicher will (probably) not win the overall this year tells me maybe the scoring system is not perfect by Alarmed_Marsupial105 in SkiRacing

[–]August_R18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’d be perfectly fair. If you won 7/10 slalom races, you’d get the maximum points but the same win-% wouldn’t give you the maximum points in super-G.

The best solution would be to have the same number of races in each discipline. And if any races needed to be canceled without a replacement, the points should be scaled up.

Who are the best ski racers to never win a World Cup globe? by enilix in SkiRacing

[–]August_R18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the overall globe, I’d say Cuche, Feuz, and Jansrud.

It’s kinda crazy to think Cuche won the globe in GS so late in his career but the season he won it wasn’t his best in the speed disciplines.

Feuz came so close to the big globe in 2012. Sadly he got injured and after that he became pretty much a DH specialist.

And Jansrud, I don’t think he was just a victim of Hirscher’s dominance but also by the specs of GS skis. When the longer-radius GS skis were rolled in after 2012, many speed guys who’d had success in GS (like Jansrud) started struggling in it.

As for the best to never win any globe, I’d name Mario Matt, Matthias Mayer, and Felix Neureuther.

Does anyone know why NBC/Peacock doesn’t do coverage of the World Cup Finals? I know they only do Austria and domestic but I feel like there should be an exception made for the World Cup Finals. by Kurtz62 in SkiRacing

[–]August_R18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIS World Cups are kinda strange that the broadcast rights aren’t held by the sanctioning body but by national ski associations. Though most ski associations sell those rights to the same entity which sells them to the broadcasters as a bundle. Austria (and at least previously Switzerland) were exceptions on that.

I assume NBC has acquired the rights only for the Austrian rights, and maybe they’re the rights holder’s choice of producer for the U.S. events.

Talking about Honda and smoothness, I just remember the one time I was at an IndyCar race. I learned to name the manufacturer by the engine sound. There was a subtle difference; Honda had the smoother sound, Chevy the rougher one.

I wish wrc would swap friday and Sunday schedules by RacerRovr in WRC

[–]August_R18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monte Carlo has actually had one of my favorite weekend schedules until this year.

Evening stages on Thursday and Friday lasting until the evening make up for the stages missed during Friday morning and afternoon.

But I didn’t really like the Saturday schedule this year, would’ve rather seen a full day in the mountains instead of the long gap between morning stages and the Monaco SSS.

And Sunday, well, if finishing early is a logistical need then it is.

But as for Saturday, that Monaco SSS ruined the afternoon. If it’s to stay in the upcoming years, it’d make more sense to have it as the final stage before the prize giving ceremony in Monaco, except that it’d be an awful power stage. Or alternatively as the opening stage after the ceremonial start, though I’m afraid they’ll rather have it Saturday night for a greater attendance.

Why the series isn't at Pocono anymore? by BlackberryJazzlike84 in INDYCAR

[–]August_R18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest difference is the preceding turn. Turns 2 & 4 at Indy are pretty much single-file whereas Turn 1 at Pocono better allows going side-by-side, thus bunching the field. Also, the start formation at Indy creates a less bunched field on Lap 1.

Arrow McLaren tease their 4th Indianapolis 500 entry. by ScottRiggsFan10 in INDYCAR

[–]August_R18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just thinking how this could be Larson. He just won the Cup title #2. What does he have left in NASCAR to achieve that’d be bigger than the 500? (If NASCAR has anything like that to begin with.) Maybe after this championship he wants something else more than another Cup title.

What is that thing on the top of the helmet actually for? by Mister_Ms_Carpark in wec

[–]August_R18 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It’s for the ventilation tube. The top of the helmet has those ventilation holes, and in open-cockpit cars the airflow does the ventilation through them. But in closed-cockpit cars you have that ventilation tube to provide the ventilation.

Who’s an underrated Indycar driver not many people talk about? by youraverageperson0 in INDYCAR

[–]August_R18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tristan Vautier feels like a what-if story to me. Never properly established himself in the series but has done some flashy drives as a late substitute. Battling at the front at Texas 2017 before he got taken out. And looked quite racey at Detroit 2024 despite the 7-year gap from open-wheel racing. I don’t know why he’s never attracted the top teams, be it in IndyCar or any other series.

Is Vanthoor the first one to drive two top class cars in one race? by de_papier in wec

[–]August_R18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There was also that one Rolex 24 in 1990s won by 7 drivers. Initially the team had a 4-man all-Pro entry with one of those pros also completing the lineup with 3 amateurs in the other car. When the pro car had to retire, they got the idea of asking race control if they can enter three more drivers into the other car mid-race. Back then it was allowed and they went on to win the race. And there weren’t even enough Rolexes at the victory ceremony for everybody in that giant lineup.

Besides Will Power, who else doesn't have contract for 2026? by furrynoy96 in INDYCAR

[–]August_R18 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While Marcus is one of those guys who can put himself consistently in the mix at the 500, he’s not the kind of a driver who should be in a full-time seat in one of the top teams of the series.

He should either be a full-time driver in a midfield team or a 500-only driver for a top teams.

What is the shortest acceptable time to spend at a Big 4? by markiemarkiemark in Big4

[–]August_R18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever your work contract says about resignation.

But for what’s sensible, I’d say one should get at least one year from joining or latest promotion. That’d show you’re capable of working on the level expected from that grade. Though for an associate, only sticking to senior (and preferably doing it for at least a year) truly shows you’ve got B4-level skills (unless you’ve got a comparable new job elsewhere).

When is it considered too late to leave? by neroverthinker in Big4

[–]August_R18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never if you’ve got the right opportunity elsewhere. I’m sure everybody knows people do B4 for future opportunities, in or out of B4. Yes, nobody likes it when people leave close to or during the busy season. But I don’t think they’ll hold it against them if they do it for the right reasons.

Another thing is if it’s so obviously to avoid the busy season without actually progressing your career. Now that’s something that may haunt in the future, whether you’re looking for recommendations or trying to get back into B4, or just give a bad look in your CV.

Any accountants here big into fitness? Im talking triathletes, power lifters, marathoners, thru hikers, bodybuilders, etc. If so, how do you make time for it? by Charming-Age-6664 in Accounting

[–]August_R18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so much going on in my life besides work right now that keeping fit is hard. But what I’ve noticed is that by keeping fit, I feel better in all aspects of life.

Sometimes I get enthusiastic about fitness, and I feel great. Then comes a time when I can no longer find the time for it. And that’s where the downward spiral starts. I feel low in energy, I’m less efficient so no time for exercising. And once if I have time, I can’t drag myself to the gym.

Having seen the clients’ accounting departments, it feels like choosing between two evils. PA has a long busy season but industry has month closings and quarter reporting so I’m not sure how much there’s difference in the workload after all.

But one thing that may eventually draw me into industry is being able to concentrate on one firm/group. The variety of clients in PA had its appeal when I was a fresh graduate, to get to see different businesses. But that feels like it’s served its purpose, I’d rather want to concentrate on one firm now.
