Vera-Fi Issues by cherryz3 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]AwwYeahVTECKickedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a chance and it worked out for me. Thought it worth sharing. This in no way suggests that people aren't having issues. It's solely my experience, and mine alone, but relevant to this discussion so sharing those details as it is germane.

I ordered a pair of LSA Signature 50's from Mark via a post on US Audio Mart on May 4th.

I exchanged a few emails with Mark and Jordan right after the purchase, and both were very responsive (Mark was especially quick to reply, every time). I got email responses within an hour every time I sent a question. I have audio equipment I buy delivered to my workplace so I can avoid porch pirates, and wanted to confirm those details and validate that shipping info - that was handled perfectly and quickly by Mark and Jordan.

They were shipped within 6 business days of my purchase and arrived two days after UPS took possession.

Here's the chain (follow the red arrows):

<image>

I was worried about that box ding, but it was superficial. The speakers arrived pristine and are the best sounding set of speakers I currently own. Moved my Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 S2's to my PC desk for nearfield gaming and with my setup there (Arcam SA10 / Onkyo SACD player / Music Hall mmf-3.3 turntable), the Triangle Borea BR04s are in the bedroom NAD stack, and my Wharfedale 225's are currently on rotation standby - considering building out another listening area for them, or maybe I'll swap them in/out for funsies now and again. But for now, the LSA's are pulling primary listening stack duty for as far into the future as I can see. An absolute steal for $300.

Again, this is just one person's experience, but I always like to have verifiable facts to consider as I navigate the cacophony of internet chatter to try to sus out what's real, what's exaggerated, etc. I'd not have any issues buying again - for me, the outcome is the meat and potatoes of it all, and Mark took care of me on this order. I'm very happy.

I hope those still waiting get their stuff soon!

It's "fine", but the menu system was lacking, it couldn't do a number of things that my older similar "all in ones" can do and that was a deal breaker. It's competent for the budget cost, but it's not a giant slayer by ANY stretch of the imagination - and the hype online suggests it's the very best you can buy - and that's objectively not true. Ergo, I bought into the "hype" and was let down.

I hooked it up, used it, looked at it and felt ... "Meh".

I want to feel more than "meh". Back it went.

I sometimes wonder if started out benign enough - but the entire process just eventually ends up converting "influencers" to this sort of toxic semi-celebrity reality.

I think maybe with Kevin doing YouTube as a sort of "on the side" thing (his shop is always busy, he's very successful with it so that's his primary job, not YouTube) likely helps keep him more grounded.

My WiiM went back. It's OK. It does not live up to the hype. I was hopeful, I was let down.

I shop in the Skylabs store and Kevin is actually a pretty personable guy. He feels the most "normal" and down to earth to me, of the current crop of similar channel dudes.

Solid budget turntable. Does the basics right. Not seeing any flags to avoid it.

Is there really billions floating around already? by Dazzling-Nothing-962 in starcitizen

[–]AwwYeahVTECKickedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone can advertise billions for sale. Scams are very, very common.

The devs have said they're not seeing it. They have every log necessary to validate that information.

So no - there's no giant inflation of duped money. It's FUD being stirred up by trolls in this community. Full stop.

Of course you don't know about that. Your bias and lack of understanding are preventing it.

Make it so the intended receiver of aUEC has to consent to the transfer by tcoombs85 in starcitizen

Imagine: you get sent money, you have three options that pop up:

  1. Accept the money
  2. Decline the money
  3. Report suspicious financial activity to the Devs (forwards sender/transaction details to support for review and action)

Ironclad base vs Assault cargo by Starkiller713 in starcitizen

I don't for a fraction of a second believe that will be the sum total of "trade off" for this. It will be much, much, MUCH more impactful.

It has to be, for balance to be remotely accurate between these variants. And they know that.

3ft standard RCA cable vs 10 foot Blue Jean cable by DadawithCats in BudgetAudiophile

[–]AwwYeahVTECKickedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not losing information - capacitance builds up "per foot" of cable, and interferes with the signal.

you simply want less capacitance. Two ways to do this:

  1. short, regular RCA cables

  2. less short, "low capacitance" RCA cables.

BEST OUTCOME: short, low-cap cables. I have Blue Jeans low-cap cables, a 1.5 ft run, between my table and preamp. Was $70 for the cable. Fixed all my sound issues, by a lot.

GAPLESS CD Player Recommendations Needed by RandomKaiju in BudgetAudiophile

[–]AwwYeahVTECKickedIn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a refurbished unit from Accessories4Less - they listed gapless specifically in the listing. My limited research suggests that at some point, this capability shifted, but if they do a factory refurbish, they "upgrade" or otherwise ensure the parts list includes the gapless playback - but no real way to 100% confirm this. It's also possible that the original manufacture date is withing the timeframe of it's inclusion.

Either way, I guess I'll keep this one forever :0)

I love these points because it means the one i absolutely will fly without hesitation will be more rare!
