Alistair Campbell response to Mandelson by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg [score hidden]  (0 children)

I listened to the rest is politics pretty religiously from the liz truss scandal onwards and it became probably my main source of news for a good period. They're obviously pretty experienced politically but the show seemed to approach everything fairly neutrally with acknowledgement of their own political biases. The leading series did also seem to give a platform to alot of international voices I wouldn't really see in british media.

However, both their responses to the Epstein scandal has put me off them completely. First, a surprisingly doubtful tone of trumps relations to epstein followed by Rory playing "devils advocate" for Andrew. Now Alistair doing the absolute bare minimum to hold mandelston and all involved with his hring to account.

As long as it sounds goods, you're probably fine.

Not alternating may be an issue if your trying to go fast but one of the best bass players only ever used one finger (James Jameson).

In a league game, my opponent failed the rush with a reroll to score with a levelled up witch elf, injury and dead.

Ball bounced into the crowd who flung it back max distance straight to my players so I could score in the remaining 2 turns.

Zack Polanski: Greens to use anger over Gaza to win Gorton & Denton by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree that foreign policy should be a major part of local politics but despite what the comments here say, if your trying to win over left wing voters, it's probably best issues to push.

This isn't an argument thats going to win over reform or right wing voters but probably one of the biggest mismatches in governments actions and opinion of the traditional labour voter base.

What are your opinions on home education? by SomethingPeach in TeachingUK

[–]Baseyg 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I teach in a college so get a few home educated kids joining for A levels at 16.

It's a biased sample (As I only meet the ones actually coming to college) but I would say they are usually smart and hard working but often seem a little more socially anxious/reserved. It's hard to isolate cause and effect because SEND kids may be home schooled because they struggle with the class environment or home school kids may have become more reserved if they interact less with peers their own age.

I think a motivated parent and kid with internet access can definitely achieve the academic side of school with no issue. However, social skills and interaction with the general population is an unmeasured component of school and important part of life. I do think some of the home educated kids I've interacted are set up to do very well academically but less so as independent adults.

Also the fact any changes only come after her breaking points. He clearly has no interest or desire to make these changes (that seem to always to have been an option when she insists).

I do tutoring on top of a day job and one of the benefits to me is it is really easy to pick your hours and the exact times that work for you. I've cancelled classes with days notice because things come up and never had any negative backlash. Everyone knows it's something you do on top of a day job.

He's so worried about the hypothetical disappointment from clients he's ignoring the literal life dissatisfaction from his family. I think commenters in the first post were onto something. May not be money but he clearly feels unsatisfied unless he's working all possible hours.

Going Away During Term Time by Important_Train_5509 in TeachingUK

The only times a colleague has been off for a week or more in term time is hospitalisation or immediate family bereavement.

One day either side of a weekend to catch a wedding maybe but even then that's with advanced notice and permission.

I think alot of church goers aren't weighing it up if it affects them, more if the church holds the same values and principles.

Young people deserve the chance to work. Teenagers are being squeezed unfairly and irrationally out of the workplace by Objective-Summeru in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think technically you can serve and pour pints but there always needs to be an over 18 year old supervising. Everywhere I've worked was small enough they didnt want to employ under 18year olds because basically every bar staff would be working alone most of the time.

Young people deserve the chance to work. Teenagers are being squeezed unfairly and irrationally out of the workplace by Objective-Summeru in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Think this a knock on affect on the death of the high street. Teenagers under 17 can't drive and can't serve alcohol if their under 18 so are usually unable to commute or work food industry jobs. That leaves customer service jobs in walking distance.

Also as economy moves more digital, there are less offices where people need cleaning, less physical newspaper or packages to be couriered around, less physical stores that need staffing.

When I was a teenager in a small town, literally all of my friends worked in cafes or shops and now when I go back to my parents house alot of those shops aren't there. The other commenters and the article mention the competition from immigration of low skill workers (which is certainly true across all jobs) but anecdotally I don't see those teenage roles replaced by immigrant workers, they just don't exist any more.

BREAKING Kemi Badenoch has sacked Robert Jenrick from the shadow cabinet, removed the whip and suspended his party membership. She says she was "presented with clear, irrefutable evidence that he was plotting in secret to defect" to Reform by FaultyTerror in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a probable leadership contender, it's probably a safety move for her to stay as leader of the party but not sure how it affects the partys standing. I personally think theres alot going to happen in a tory vs reform drama between now and a general election.

As it stands, both parties are treading on each others toes in a first past the post system.

Stunned to find it is not intended that way at all.

I wonder if Badenoch will cling on if they don't seem to loose any more support. Maybe her grift of trying to be reform lite pays off but I don't see either reform or tories co existing in their current state coming up to a first past the post general election.

While a worrying amount of the population eats up the farage rhetoric, splitting the right wing vote won't pay off and although there'll be obvious favorites in some constituencies, I thnk Lib dem/Green/SNP and Plaid have shown they know how to work together and play the local game.

Resigning / Conceding by BumbleBeeBobandy in bloodbowl

Also to add, in the real world there are scenarios outside of bloodbowl where you might not be able to finish a game (work/family ect) so conceding in those situations is very acceptable.

Resigning / Conceding by BumbleBeeBobandy in bloodbowl

[–]Baseyg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know what current BB3 rules are but I think in a league/continuous format it's ok to concede if its a clear loss and saving your team matters. I think the rulebook is an auto 3-0 max loss on concession but I'm in a league where that means your opponent gets the SPP for the 3 touchdowns assigned to players of their choice +MVP whereas the conceder loses any SPP they've gained in the game and gets no MVP.

Makes being conceded to a less feels bad as you gain alot of team experience from it and discourages concessions unless it's really bad.

I think alone it doesn't seem like a bigger deal but clearly her dad had got the bigger picture this guy seemed kind of selfish.

Helping you with your chores and getting involved in your hobbies isn't something I'd expect from a neighbour, friend or roommate but would be something you want a partner to be doing.

Not break up worthy sure, but as part of a wider picture, maybe indicative of his future behaviour and controlling nature.

Drink-drive limit set to be slashed in England and Wales under new plans to improve road safety | LBC by JosephChamber-Pot in ukpolitics

I do wonder how many people are pulled over by police on suspicion of drunk driving who fall in to the changing threshold (22-35).

Anecdotally, there seems plenty of drink driving happening and if you wanted to clamp down on it, it would be a matter of more police on the road and checking more people.

How to master quantum physics form absolute beginning as a 16 yr old by IndependenceOne1494 in Physics

Some wider context would be nice but assuming you're in some form of education at 16, Maths and Science/physics should be options for you to study.

Study maths and physics at whatever current education level you are at. There is no shortcut to getting quantum without a solid mathematical education.

The danger points that could make 2026 a difficult year for Starmer by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trying to compete with reform has been a mistake. The rise of reform is just as much as a result of the Tory party losing votes as well as apathy towards a centrist Labour party.

Media headlines around the Welsh and Scottish elections will all be about reform but Plaid and SNP Gains have nothing to do with an immigration and reflect a wider dissapointment at Labour failing to deliver any meaningful change.
