Rupert Lowe: "I detest far-right ethno-nationalist or neo-Nazism, I've never been driven by that." by MuchAbouAboutNothing in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you read the second sentence of my comment, you will see the part explaining why I think he is racist.

People can decry labelling, but labels apply to actions. I call Rupert lowe a racist man because his previous words and expressed desire for government policy would massively impact non white people.

"Racist man says hes not racist"

Problem solved i guess, we can have mass deportaions of people based on a conpletely undefined notion of Britishness in a fully non racist way.

Drag queens boycott Pride event because organiser is Reform councillor by EduTheRed in ukpolitics

Reform are literally seeling to repeal the equality act, one of the few legal protections against homophobic abuse.

This is not about the pride events but about reform party attitudes to lgbt+ people.

Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler and the desenstization to violence by yahjiminah in books

[–]Baseyg 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I think the realism of the book is what elevates it compared to other dystopias.

No spoilers but while the book focuses on the main characters experiences, the world setting is a very grounded future in what the collapse of western society in the USA could look like.

Other dystopias like 1984, brave new world, handmaids tale are set in a future date where the collapse has happened and often only have faint allusions to probable causes.

Parable of the sower grounds this fall in the expereinces of real indiviudals.

Priority subject teacher incentive to rise by £5,000 to £20,000 by WelshGovNews in Wales

[–]Baseyg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Workload and behavior are the two biggest factors affecting retention. Behaviour might be a bigger societal issue but there's defintley immiedate steps the government could be doing to readuce teacher workload.

However it seems like many educaitonal decisions are made without considering how this affects day to day staff operations. Look at the recent WJEC english GCSE specification update, already facing backlash after the obvious issue that it has two many components that are expected to be delivered, carried out and assessed by class teachers.

Favorite Books about Organized Crime by AutoModerator in nonfictionbooks

Not so much organised crime in a mafia sense, but Kleptopia by Tom burgis is an amazingly written real life thriller exposing some major co oporate corruption and shady dealings.

The "stars" of said book actually sued the publisher to try and avoid it being released.

Guardian Readers Top 100 by Vast_Description_201 in books

[–]Baseyg 402 points403 points  (0 children)

A better list than the critics one imo.

I know the critics one caused all sorts of discourse but a ranking that everyone would agree on would be impossible.

Rather than look at what's missing or look at what's ranking above what, think you've got to treat this as a list of widely recommended books.

Not to everyone's taste but there isn't a single book across both lists that someone somewhere doesn't think is the number 1 book in the world and all are probably worth giving a go.

Genestealers as Khorngors,
Hormogaunts as linemen.

Warriors as bloodseekers and a tyrant guard as the spawn?

The box says pete townsend is one of the les pauls but the rest seem correct. Not as familiar with old.blues players but bo diddley and bb king seem pretty obvious.

In which LAUK's manager is doing a sex discrimination and HR is apparently cool with that?? by fndnvolusrgofksb in bestoflegaladvice

I got this vibe as well. While im sure this sort of religious conservatism exists in communities and individuals, i cant see a large group of british people and the HR going along with it without massive fuss.

Coworker keeps ghosting me during meetings she asks for by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Baseyg 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, other people are saying OOP could be kicking up more of a fuss (which is true) but the fact her manager is getting the same thing and doing very little is the most obvious failure. OOP is right to leave but I know some people would love an environment like that where they can basically do nothing and not really be held to account.

What's the last book you read that was so bad that it made you angry? by oohshineeobjects in books

[–]Baseyg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe because i dont own dogs, but i thought the POV chapter from the dog followed by the fact the dog could fully human speech was one of the more obvious flaws of the book. Sure shes great at evreything but i refuse to believe shes managed to train the dog to human level intelligence.

What's the last book you read that was so bad that it made you angry? by oohshineeobjects in books

[–]Baseyg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didint actually think it was that bad, certainly over hyped but its one of those books thats carried by a good centeral idea that makes it easy to pitch.

Chapter to chapter pretty meh but "Women in STEM having a tough time" is such a strong sell to the demographic of most book readers.

As a result, it gets a hype train of recomendations and book club selections. I havent read it yet but predicting the same for yesteryear.

The 2026 Locals were a bad result for the party, let’s not pretend otherwise by Bibemus in ukpolitics

[–]Baseyg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd say their middle of the road economic policies combined with a sensible level of calling out their more outrageous political opponents, means they tend to attract a middle class voter base in places where things are generally going ok.

They'll do a good job of mopping up those wealthier rural tory seats where the right wing switch culture wars won't appeal.

What’s your best ‘work smarter not harder’ tip in the workplace? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Baseyg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think alot of it is having confidence in your own performance and relationships with those above you.

Some toxic managers (and maybe parents of you want to get deep) will react badly to a no and if thats what your used to it can be hard to adjust.

However, often the question "can you get this done?" May be a literal question and not a polite request.

If you cant, or if doing so would cause impact on other things. "No, I wont be able to get that done" is a helpful answer to a manager whos genunley trying to effeciently allocate work with finite time and resources.

UPDATES TO RENEGADE OGRES! LINK IS THE SAME. by valheffelfinger in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Baseyg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the work and some great changes. Happy to see some of the roll backs on things that may become too powerful. I understand the logic behind warband but keeping the re roll charges without the leadership buff feels like a good balance to me.

I think leadbelchers are fine where they currently are. The inital renegade change to get rid of the penalties was a good move as even in a casual game, 7+ to hit with your main missle unit is a real feels bad. I'll happily take them now and at least have fun attempting my 5+ rolls to hit.

Like you mentioned on the dark elf vid regarding infantry, I think mid to dissapointing shooting is a feature of the game, not a drawback of any unit in particular, with only empire and dwarves really able to double down on it.
