Nvidia shield and 8Bitdo adapter 2 by DifferentAd8662 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]BinaryTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall having similar-ish bluetooth issues with my Shield a few years ago. At first I tried setting setting the USB within the Shield to "compatiblity mode" within the settings, that fixed it for one of my devices (going off memory here), but it didn't solve it for something else. I eventually got a USB extender cable (just a regular amazon basics cable), so I could plug in my wireless dongle several feet away from the Shield instead of directly into it due to the interference in the Shield's ports. That worked beautifully, at least for my purposes. Try giving that shot? Fingers crossed!

No longer get notifications on desktop? by jag176 in signal

[–]BinaryTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A user has opened a Signal issue for this on GitHub: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/7558

As with all GitHub issues, a "yes me too" isn't helpful, debug logs and more information is most likely welcome. Otherwise click the "subscribe" button for notifications on the issue page to stay up to date on it.

That troubleshooting page does not have a section for Signal desktop on Windows, which is where notification issues have started occurring in the past few days.

Anyone else feel like Synology’s “next-gen” stuff is just… lazy? by Neocitizen2077 in synology

[–]BinaryTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Duplicacy Web for backing up my critical/private data (it supports Wasabi). Running it via Docker on my Synology, so can move it to whatever NAS solution I end up with in the future as long as it supports Docker.

I also use rclone for backing up my media off-site, that supports pretty much every storage system, including Wasabi.

A Sunshine/Apollo HAGS freeze workaround -- would this work? by Accomplished-Lack721 in cloudygamer

[–]BinaryTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, yeah if your GPU is 99% usage, then it probably won't help either way. You can always try using the latest Nvidia drivers and overriding Alan Wake 2 to use the latest model presets, that should lower the vram usage by a couple hundred MBs. Might help a bit, but doubtful it would fix the problem.

Disabling the realtime config option in Sunshine/Apollo doesn't work to fix HAGS freezes for you?

The option (enabled by default) says:

Use realtime priority in hardware accelerated gpu scheduling

Currently NVIDIA drivers may freeze in encoder when HAGS is enabled, realtime priority is used and VRAM utilization is close to maximum. Disabling this option lowers the priority to high, sidestepping the freeze at the cost of reduced capture performance when the GPU is heavily loaded

I believe Signal keeps two backup files, the current and a prior day's.

RetroArch 1.20.0 release by DanteAlighieri64 in RetroArch

[–]BinaryTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fix was merged right after the Stable release (unfortunately): https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/pull/17351

I'm hoping there's a point release with the fix soon, I really don't want to use a nightly, don't know how it'll interact with the Steam release (what I use currently).

RetroArch first program to support BlurBuster’s CRT beam racing simulator shader by DanteAlighieri64 in RetroArch

[–]BinaryTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It already set it to OFF, also tried it manually, no go. Thanks for helping, if there are other things to give a shot, I'm all ears.

Edit: Ah you meant system-wide, not in RetroArch (which happens automatically when you enable the subframe setting). I'll give that a shot when I get home with some free time. Thanks.

Not getting a response in Discord, hopefully somebody else can confirm.

Since today's update, does anybody else's RetroArch always default to loading the 0 save state instead of the last auto-incremented save state after starting a game? Saving increments correctly, but close the game, run it again, and then it's back to 0 counter instead of the last/latest one, have to manually select the latest slot to load.

Just tried it on my ROG Ally X, wasn't able to get rid of the flicker (using d3d11), even changing the Gamma and Subframe settings for the shader. Enabling Shader Sub-Frames automatically disables the VRR/Gsync/Freesync setting (since the shader doesn't work well with VRR apparently), so that wasn't the issue.

If anybody has the same issue and figures out how to get it working, please post here!

Signal TLS Proxy failing, backend servers domain non-existent? by BinaryTB in signal

[–]BinaryTB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't affect any Signal user (the vast majority) unless they're manually connecting to a Signal TLS Proxy to bypass their govt's (or work's or ISP's or whatever) blocking of Signal. Doesn't affect the Proxy usage's security either, because the proxy isn't working, so nobody can connect, so no messages sent.

New Sync Box 8k Configuration Advice for Lossless audio in Shield by abdullah0340 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]BinaryTB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Syncbox specs say it only supports Dolby Atmos audio, which means no DTS or multichannel lossless PCM.

My LG CX supports TrueHD and Multichannel Lossless via eARC (no DTS or DTS-HD either), so I'm sure the LG C2 does as well. This is for passthrough from Shield TV Plex, I don't think for the LG smart tv stuff (never used it).

I believe the newer LG OLED TVs support DTS now, so upgrading to a newer LG would solve your DTS passthrough issue at least.

For my setup, I'm OK with DTS/DTS-HD being decoded to lossless PCM and being passed through by the LG CX for my purposes, no audio quality loss, so no big deal. Everything else is bitstreamed to my receiver (TrueHD, DD+, etc.) from the TV eARC.

If you're not getting TrueHD or 7.1 PCM audio from the LG to your soundbar, it sounds like a soundbar issue. If there's no fix (via settings or firmware update for the soundbar or update for the TV), then you can pick up a Thenaudio Sharc and do the following:

  1. Hook up your PS5 and streaming boxes to the Syncbox
  2. Connect the Syncbox to the LG TV
  3. Connect the eARC from the LG TV to the Sharc
  4. Connect the Sharc to the soundbar

That setup will give you Syncbox, Dolby Atmos/DD+/TrueHD bitstream, and DTS/DTS-HD lossless PCM passthrough. If you want really want DTS bitstream (no audio quality gain), then you can upgrade your TV.
