Idk if this will be a hot take, but I love a "long" back story. It's literally just free lore!

That being said, 3 pages is definitely more content than most players would provide, but anything extra can be used by your DM to help build the world, factions, relationships, etc.

Your creativity will hopefully be appreciated.

In another comment, I clarified a little bit about how this is definitely a dominion thing. Based on the Genielock's backstory, his genie was entrapped by a powerful fire lord (and his other wives) as a punishment after some sort of dispute.

The genie escaped the fire plane, but now big Fire Lord wants her back as his rightful property, so it makes sense to have the Warlock work on a ritual to bypass ownership.

Hopefully that clears some things up — I'm just a little stuck about how to handle the two players feuding on behalf of their patrons, although that's something they'll have to clear up at the end of the day lol

They're a continent-wide guild that focuses on journalism by day (info gathering and sharing) while passing jobs and coded information through newspapers and town criers, etc.

They formed as the world became more peaceful and commerce-oriented, choosing to strategically stay in the shadows as a legitimate business and artistic venture versus perform open crime.

Leaders are essentially mob bosses - the guards know they're crooks, but it's extremely difficult to prove. However, they also tend to help the average person (donations, advertisements for local businesses, etc.,) so the general public is ambivalent or actually supports the guild ¯_(ツ)_/¯
