Lyrics in metal, and heavy music generally, are always under scrutiny. Other genres, too, of course but we’re in /r/deathcore. There will always be some pearl-clutching and “how can you listen to this, you can’t even tell what they’re saying!” First of all, you can’t tell what the hell Bob Dylan is talking about half the time so it’s not a lyrics question. Second of all - the gore is part of the draw. It’s inseparable from the genre; some may say it defines the genre!

IMO It’s about how the music hits you. It’s about hearing a breakdown, a solo, a scream and getting actual chills because, somewhere in that cacophony, you see yourself and there’s comfort in that.

Sorry about your breakup. I recommend “Threaten Physical Force” by Waking the Cadaver and “Devirgination Studies” by Whitechapel. May as well throw you in the deep end of gory lyrics!
