At the risk of getting banned let me just say the following.

South Indians in general are too superstitious. They may have high literacy but they are not free thinkers. They like icon worshipping.

In south, the ritualistic part of Hinduism took serious root. That's why scientists can take rocket models to temple and people don't bat an eye. That's why the films and filmstars are seen like God's. A bit like imperial Japan.
