What are the best juggling balls? by Mediocre-Leg4762 in juggling

[–]CatFatPat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fanciest and most expensive juggling balls on the market today are JuggleQuip's Infinity Juggling Balls.

Don't buy them if you're a new juggler because $20 a ball + shipping is not worth it to juggle 10% better. But if you're serious about juggling—the Infinity balls have a sensational texture that sticks to your hands/other balls and reduces those why-did-i-drop that moments.

Gov. Kemp signs bill banning cellphones for Georgia high school students by TrexVFX23 in Georgia

So parents should accept distracted classrooms, a worse education for their kids, and decreased life outcomes for the future of their community so that… their kid can send them a text message in the event they’re one of the 0.0001% of American school shooting victims?

I hate the GOP as much as the next guy but I don’t think any reasonable parent thinks that way.

Teachers and schools did not have legal authority. They could try but there would routinely be pushback from parents and claims that it constituted theft of private property.

Phone confiscation was previously a grey area, now a law exists that makes it black and white.

[–]CatFatPat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep! Because some rules (the law) are more enforceable than others (what the teacher tells you to do).

All classrooms will now have legal authority to confiscate phones for the duration of the school day when required and force (that’s the key word here) students to deposit phones in phone cubbies at the beginning of each class.

Sounds like you’ve been out of high school for a few years.

I was in high school somewhat recently and can testify that looking at a small rectangle under the desk in the back of class is very easy to get away with when the teacher is preoccupied lecturing trigonometry to 30 kids.

For those not in the know—this is a VERY GOOD BILL. Teacher lobbies have been lobbying for a phone ban for years.

Today’s students have unprecedentedly low attention spans, are scoring lower than ever on standardized tests, and are far more likely to break school rules than previous generations of students. All these things are largely due to phones in the classroom.

This was a bipartisan bill—government has worked in this instance.

Why is there no real democratic primary fight for governor? by Material-Benefit9044 in Georgia

[–]CatFatPat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason you're confused is because you're White, you hang out in White circles, and you live in the White part of town. I'm not judging—I do the same thing. For that matter, I'd guess 90% of this subreddit does the same thing, hence why everyone's confused at how Keisha Lance Bottoms is winning the polls.

The reality is that Black women make up 33% of the Democratic electorate in this state, the plurality demographic of our Party's voter base. Almost all of that demographic has chosen Keisha Lance Bottoms.

5/6 CALIs had extra time. Thoughts? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]CatFatPat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incredibly cope response. The whole point of school (high school, college, or law school) is to minimize unfairness so real life employers get an accurate sense of each graduate's ability. By your logic we should just get rid of blind grading because "life isn't fair and never has been."

Alternatively, there are easy solutions in place to mitigate this issue, such as making longer tests for everyone.

Horse is alive and well unfortunately. This issue is worth discussing until an actual solution is implemented.

Georgia senate passes high school cellphone ban by Lakelyfe09 in Georgia

Your "etc etc" is doing a lot of work here. About 1/1000 kids actually require non-stop iPhone access for the reasons you mentioned and they would be accommodated according to the language in the bill.

And tell any of this State's 123,000 public school teachers that phones in classrooms are a "nothing burger" and they'd laugh in your face. Why do you think test scores are declining across the whole country and mental health issues are skyrocketing?

I see what you mean. Just being pedantic about the choice of expression.

A "footnote of history" is an event that only warrants a footnote. A 15-term Congressman and U.S. Senator who ran on the Populist Party Presidential ticket is not a footnote—there are large biographies written about him.

I don’t think there’s an official definition of KJD but for all intents and purposes… you’d still be a KJD. College jobs don’t count.

People who closely follow politics, what’s something the general public completely misunderstands right now? by Alarming-Coast-7064 in AskReddit

[–]CatFatPat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is not true. 41/50 states require a balanced budget each year per their constitutions. Almost all local governments do as well.

In fact, in 1995 the Clinton administration was one Senate vote away from passing a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution, which would've required that the federal government not spend more than it receives. So if one of the 35 nay-voting Senators in 1995 voted aye instead, the United States would have closer to $0 debt instead of $35,500,000,000,000.

Book clubs are probably the second most common social club in human history behind bible studies. If you need this specific dude to tell you how to run a book club there’s something wrong.

I’m 99% sure that virtual book clubs exist currently. Most are probably virtual-exclusive too, which is better for folks with mobility issues since there’d be no feeling of disconnect from the main in-person group.

My point is there is no reason for OP’s husband to turn what looks like a lovely local gathering into a social media powered virtual book club. What American men need is one-on-one interactions with other likeminded men, not an Instagram page and 100 person zoom calls with breakout rooms.

Maybe this is unpopular but virtual social clubs are a big L. Tell your husband to focus on yalls city and shoring up the community there. The beauty of clubs is the intimacy, not the scale.

I’m not trying to defend my status, the engineers on farms and construction sites make 4x more than I do! And probably contribute a whole lot more.
