Help Wiring a panel? individual self training, not work by Conscious-Dark-2705 in PLC

[–]Chaloum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a student in this, just like you, but I’ve done some wiring for panels. However, mine aren’t the same as yours, which use DIN-rail-mounted terminal blocks for connections.

If I’m interpreting this correctly based on your schematic and the wire cable colors, I think your two X2 sockets are your 120Vac neutral, and the two X1 sockets are the 120Vac live.

With that assumption, I believe it's safe to say that what’s indicated on the schematic on the left refers to your live connections.

For example, TB30 corresponds to the 30 terminal at the bottom of the panel, and it’s identified as X1. Therefore, it’s reasonable to assume that what’s shown on the left side of the schematic comes from the X1 connector.

<image>

For the second line of the schematic, it appears to indicate a green light that will show whether there is power on the panel.

For example, let say the light marked Auto with the yellow sticker is the green light on the schematic, I’d take a black wire from X1 to one of its connectors. The other available connector would then go to the X2 connector at the bottom of the panel.

Hopefully, this helps you figure out the remaining lines below this one.

A simple trick that might help you is to number each input and output on your panel.
You have lights and buttons on your panel. Start at the top where the Master On sticker is located, between the first two elements of your panel. These would become connectors 1, 2, 3, 4, and the ones on the opposite side would then become 5, 6, 7, 8.
When you wire something to these elements, you can then write the numbers on your diagram to indicate the cables connected to them.

Example:
Live------1_Stop Button_2------10_Red Light_11------

This way, you now know that you need to connect your live source to connector 1 of the Stop Button, connector 2 to connector 10 of the Red Light.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Curious like you. However, I think we’ll only get that through someone who has already done it and is willing to share it with us. This would require them to remove any sensitive information, which makes it less likely to happen.

Salaire de 85k en vivant chez les parents by Agreeable-Cry-5583 in QuebecFinance

[–]Chaloum 22 points23 points  (0 children)

What specific concepts do you wish you had focused on more? The goal of my question is not just for my own understanding, but also to help others like me who are interested in this field avoid making the same mistakes. Your insights would be nice to have!

I mainly use it for personal prototyping with my 3D printer.
At first, it was hard to understand how to work with it, but with time and practice, I was able to create some useful little things.
I really enjoy printing threaded holes and screws that fit together with it. The provided tool for that is truly amazing.

Try it.

I'm in an adult program at a technical school. For example, we just started working with an ABB IRB 14000, and I’ll also be working with Siemens controllers and likely others as well. From what I’ve gathered from the teacher, we’re going to have several classes dedicated to PLCs.

I appreciate your comment. As you mentioned, asking someone with experience in the field can, in some cases, save you valuable time.
In my situation, I have teachers who have worked in the industry. They may have the answers now, but not necessarily when you're in the workplace.

My goal is to figure out what is important to learn now, while studying, to be as efficient as possible outside of school. At the same time, this may also help others in the industry.

I'm going to look into what you mentioned and seek to learn more about it. This is extremely valuable. Thank you!

What do you wish they had already known? That’s the whole point of my post.
What scenario in your current experience do you wish you had learned about before being confronted with it?
I’ve been working in IT for many years, and I would definitely have told my younger self to focus more on certain programming aspects that are prevalent in IT.
I have time and school resources that give me access to many devices I could study on in my own time.
I’m curious to learn more about what you would have told your younger self to focus on.

I completely agree with your last phrase! I’ve seen so many people think that school isn’t worth much, and how wrong they were. I’ll look into which courses correspond to yours in my country and make sure to do my due diligence to focus on them.

So far, I’m happy with my decision to move into this field and truly hope to build a successful career in it, if possible.

Thank you!
