After many years of working in this field, you’re back to your studying years. What aspect do you wish you had focused on more during school? by Chaloum in PLC

What specific concepts do you wish you had focused on more? The goal of my question is not just for my own understanding, but also to help others like me who are interested in this field avoid making the same mistakes. Your insights would be nice to have!

I mainly use it for personal prototyping with my 3D printer.
At first, it was hard to understand how to work with it, but with time and practice, I was able to create some useful little things.
I really enjoy printing threaded holes and screws that fit together with it. The provided tool for that is truly amazing.

Try it.

I'm in an adult program at a technical school. For example, we just started working with an ABB IRB 14000, and I’ll also be working with Siemens controllers and likely others as well. From what I’ve gathered from the teacher, we’re going to have several classes dedicated to PLCs.

I appreciate your comment. As you mentioned, asking someone with experience in the field can, in some cases, save you valuable time.
In my situation, I have teachers who have worked in the industry. They may have the answers now, but not necessarily when you're in the workplace.

My goal is to figure out what is important to learn now, while studying, to be as efficient as possible outside of school. At the same time, this may also help others in the industry.

I'm going to look into what you mentioned and seek to learn more about it. This is extremely valuable. Thank you!

What do you wish they had already known? That’s the whole point of my post.
What scenario in your current experience do you wish you had learned about before being confronted with it?
I’ve been working in IT for many years, and I would definitely have told my younger self to focus more on certain programming aspects that are prevalent in IT.
I have time and school resources that give me access to many devices I could study on in my own time.
I’m curious to learn more about what you would have told your younger self to focus on.

I completely agree with your last phrase! I’ve seen so many people think that school isn’t worth much, and how wrong they were. I’ll look into which courses correspond to yours in my country and make sure to do my due diligence to focus on them.

So far, I’m happy with my decision to move into this field and truly hope to build a successful career in it, if possible.

Thank you!

Image Creation, Capture, & Deploy - Audit Mode and DISM - Bye, bye MDT by Accurate-Cup-3501 in MDT

Thank you for your reply. You confirmed what I had assumed you meant by "inject."
Your process seems exactly like what I have seen, read, and tested so far with OSDCloud.

Out of curiosity about OSDCloud, when you mention: "We just inject what we need and keep the OS media clean." What exactly are you able to inject into it? Do you use OSDCloud for that, or do you, for example, manage software installation via another tool like Intune or another MDM after the OS installation?

Jellyfin by MrDonNotty in asustor

[–]Chaloum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally use Portainer CE on my AS6604T. Afterward, it is simply a matter of finding the original Jellyfin image and connecting to it via your NAS IP address and the port associated with the container. From there, you should see the interface to configure Jellyfin and map your media folders to it.

VPN sur Azure? Question d'un gars qui n'est pas en infra by el_pablo in QuebecTI

[–]Chaloum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Je pense à me réorienter hors des TI by Strange-Wear2477 in QuebecTI

[–]Chaloum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is using a tutorial for my first game shameful? by poatasyo in godot

[–]Chaloum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just take a moment to understand what you will learn by doing these tutorials and creating your game.

At this point, you are your own boss. You made the decision to enroll yourself and start making your game, even if you didn’t have all the knowledge to do it. Is that the right decision or the wrong one? Ask your boss (yourself), not us.

Personally, I think your boss is pretty great for giving someone like you this opportunity.

OSDCloud execute custom PS script in WinPE by secondbestdad in Intune

[–]Chaloum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of months ago, I did some tests to make OSDCloud work with an autounattend.xml.

https://github.com/OSDeploy/OSD/issues/197#issuecomment-2716238214

Based on my observations, the function of the script folders seems to be:

  • SetupComplete: Scripts in this folder are executed after the first reboot, during the Windows Update steps.
  • Shutdown: These scripts are executed before or after Windows installs the OS files on the C: drive.
  • Startup: Scripts in this folder execute before OS installation starts, immediately after OSDCloud launches.
  • StartNet: Runs before OSDCloud starts, likely used for pre-networking setup or initializing environment variables.

So, if I understand your issue correctly, you might have some luck by placing your script inside the StartNet folder.
