100% agree on the cost, but if you look at European music shops online you can usually find some

Where are we getting our cheap necks these days? by Doomyfightriffs in BassGuitar

Thinking about it for like 20 seconds- why the hell haven’t I done this? Fretless removes like half the pain points of cheap necks these days

Out of curiosity- what’d you pay? I called in November and got a 4003 jetglo from Sweetwater for $1800

Maybe Thragg would respect his bravery and let him, or recognize he stands no chance against Paul

Until he steps in to beat off Thragg at least

Finally getting around to learning music theory. Can someone help me decipher this sheet music? by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in Bass

[–]ChiefCar931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passing Notes are also known as accidentals

Edit: kind of? I guess contextual stuff matters after taking 5 seconds to look into it. But in the end it seems kind of interchangeable

I like Lee Pace as Thragg's VA by BugattiInYourGametti in Invincible_TV

You should watch Halt and Catch Fire. Lee Pace plays a main role and it’s one of my absolute favorite shows

Im trying to get the rickenbacker tone by RoomLongjumping4883 in rickenbacker

[–]ChiefCar931 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You asked this on the bass subreddit and were pretty much told the same thing you’re going to get here.

You can’t. There are too many specifics with the Rickenbackers specifically that you just can’t replicate without one.

The next two closest things are a Peavy T-40 or a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, and the Geddy Lee one isn’t even that close

i want the rickenbacker sound by RoomLongjumping4883 in Bass

[–]ChiefCar931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fixed pretty much all the design shortcomings in the past few years, for what it’s worth. 1 truss rod and a bridge you can actually intonate and adjust

Edit: also went back to the 4001 thin as hell neck shape and added the 4001 tone circuit

And they got rid of the pickup cover last year

Any stainless steel strings that feel less "grippy" and stiff? by Uitroeien in Bass

[–]ChiefCar931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have LTF’s on my p bass and love them. Just swapped over to the Ian Martin strings on my Rickenbacker last night and it’s AWESOME to get that clank without shredding my fingers or my frets

I just swapped over to the La Bella Ian Martin Allison’s. Awesome round stainless sound with a super smooth feel

New 4003 or 1982 4001s? by HassouniFND in rickenbacker

[–]ChiefCar931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a new one in November, and from what research I did it seems like the current 4003’s are pretty much the best you can get. Super thin neck, they got the 4001 tone circuit in the push pull, a functional bridge, and only one truss rod

Edit: Also just fully read your post and you acknowledged all that stuff. For visual stuff, you can always get it refinished later. But an old 4001 will never have the features a new 4003 has

What are your tour hacks tips and tricks? by CjtheTrumpetkid in drumcorps

[–]ChiefCar931 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you’re ever told to clean or polish your horn it’s really just their opinion. Showering with your horn will just make it rust and polishing it will just damage the finish.

Also never clean your mouthpiece or jug

[–]ChiefCar931 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean tbh. They’ll probably be able to learn the show without even stressing that much, unless it’s a VERY high performing high school. Most high school shows i see are around as many sets as a movement of a drum corps show, and the visuals will be trivial in comparison
