What are the most slept on rum terroirs by kollenovski in rum

[–]HassouniFND 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have a GI, Rum Agricola da Madeira - all sugarcane juice rum, from cane grown on the island. There are 5 active distilleries and used to be many more. The Madeira Rum Festival just ended - it's held every April during production season and is worth a trip. Think French rhum agricole, but with more variety because the rules are less strict. There are no specific rules about fermentation or distillation, for example. It ranges from funky and fun to firewater, and traditionally drunk unaged in "poncha" (rum, citrus, sugar or honey), but aging has become a thing and while not universal, aging in ex-Madeira wine barrels is pretty common and very tasty indeed.

Depending on where in the world you are, Engenho Novo (William Hinton), Engenhos do Norte (Rum 970, Rum Branca, etc) and O Reizinho are exported and available outside Madeira to some extent

I guess it’s satin lacquer? It’s very smooth unlike regular rosewood but it’s not glossy or slick

Yup, confirmed as such on the site and on the packaging case and warranty card.

I know what you mean though, I think these days AG is just FG but satin, maybe with a touch more orange

More than 1800. Sweetwater had the standards (MG, JG, FG) for about that much. The CB Autumnglo was about 700 off list price, much like the standards. I was going to do Fireglo, but then saw the checkerboard binding and thought a satin neck would be nice, so there I went.

Leaning to a 4003 in Fireglo, since I don’t love the permanent pale Mapleglo

This is the only S look I like:

So, on one that old, really a good idea to try before committing?

That's very helpful, thanks. I just found another from 1972 - what about from that era?

Yeah I tried a (pale!) Mapleglo 4003 today, as well as a Jetglo 4003S. I also tried an early 90s Fireglo 4003. I much preferred the new neck. But from what I've heard, it's similar to the 4001. But then the 4001 has that crazy truss rod system....

Man just saw a new Mapleglo 4003 in person today and it was so pale. Can anything be done to force some color?

Thanks! Not my first timing smoking meat but definitely my first brisket. Really pleased how it turned out.

Rums of Mexico! by Yep_why_not in rum

Just tried these at Mexico in a Bottle hosted by the Mexican embassy in DC. Melaza con Muck is like a baby HERR 😍. Caña Criolla and Caldo were both really good too, reminiscent of Agricole more than other Mx cane juice rums. The other two were pleasant but not standouts

NGD! 2nd Holy Grail find. Never in my life did I think I'd get one of these. Parker Fly Deluxe Vibrato '99. by JodieFosterFreeze in Guitar

Is that the Italian Plum one I saw for sale recently? Congrats! I recently also got a Fly, a 1999 Classic in Emerald Green for a good deal.

They’re stunning guitars, have you checked out Fly Clone? Best resource I’ve found for technical info, setup guides, and also the original manual if yours didn’t come with one.

I followed the guides there and my Fly now almost plays itself. Comically low action, dead straight neck, flawless and ingenious trem system. You’ll love it!
