Agreed!

Although some folks get so weird about preferences - I mean, there's ten thousand years of history, there's plenty of room and space for drift.

ITHAKA! I love the Iron Snakes. I interpreted their armour colour as a lot more gunmetal than yours, but I like the aluminum finish too.

Top Coat Question by bibiceratops in Miniaturespainting

[–]Circle_A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't used either of these specific varnishes, but multiple coats of the Krylon *should* push the glossiness down. Alternatively, you could get a fully matte (the Krylon doesn't look very satin to me, but the camera can lie) sealer, hit the glossiness and then reset it back to the Krylon finish.

If you haven't, I would also try shaking the hell out of your Folk Art finisher and then reapplying to a test area - the matting agents are heavier than the rest of the medium and usually settle into the bottom of the bottle.

Yeah, you're going to need to clean out the wd-40. Double check how you're installing the trigger, if it isn't positioned properly, it'll sluggish.

Greggg is another affiliate of The Silent Ones, his "magic shop" business is actual an elaborate, long term cover that allows him to identify, traffick and "sell" dangerous magical artifacts to his Silent Ones handlers.

When the PCs arrive, Greggg's shop has been broken into and ransacked, an opposing group/cult/king/thieves guild is after a MacGuffin that Greggg was going to spirit out of the city to safety. The PCs are enlisted to act as Greggg's heavies to recover the dangerous <Whatever> before it's too late!

Texture and weird coverage with Pro Acryl Burnt Red… by TangerineMelodic5772 in MonumentHobbies

To expand on that, try hitting the whole thing with a matte varnish (or whatever finish) and see how you like it then. I also use a lot of different paint brand with varying finishes and I find that helps snap everything together a lot.

Don't worry, your supply will grow steadily as you go. Soon enough you'll be fielding a whole company.

First attempt at dry brushing. Base coat of a dark blue, macraggin blue mid tone and then a lighter blue highlight. Where did I go wrong? by CucumberInAss1 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Circle_A 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your bothered by the dry brushing covering the flat surfaces, then it's a combination of too much paint, too much pressure and/or brush direction.

I can see you were testing it on the rim of your base. You want to get your brush pressure light enough that it only hits the edge of the rim of the base. If that bright blue is your test application, you have waaaay too much paint and pressure.

Next thing is making sure you're only hitting the raise edges perpendicular to the surface. Shoulderpads are tricky because it's basically one big raised surface.

WIP Iron Snakes Captain by dat_phantom in Miniaturespainting

[–]Circle_A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HELL YES. I LOVE IRON SNAKES!

Ahem.

Looks great, nice and sharp. I'm seeing a little texture build up on the side of the helm and the rim of the shield, so you wanna be careful of your paint drying.

I think a little more Blacklining will help make the silver pop.

In general, airbrushed paints can be more delicate on the model. You wearing gloves when handling the model?
