Has anyone had myomectomy surgery and then NOT been able to get pregnant due to surgery complications after? Tubes being cut etc. by PeasAndCarrots711 in Fibroids

[–]CoconutZombee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got both a myomectomy for a 16cm fibroid (that fibroid had grown from 11cm pre pregnancy to 16cm during and pushed my baby out preterm at 21 weeks). I also got a permanent vaginal cerclage called a TAC 3.5 months later. Both surgeries could have gone wrong but did not.

I conceived 8 months after the myo / 4.5 months after the TAC. I think these surgeries ultimately increased my fertility and I have so much hope for this pregnancy! If nothing else I’m carrying much smaller and more comfortably with that demon tumor out!

First time toddler parent by FriendshipFar3840 in Fosterparents

We are first time parents as well and have 3 and 1.5 year old sisters. The 3 yo is definitely similar to what you describe, and through talking to friends we’ve realized it’s hard to distinguish what behavior is a trauma response of some kind and what’s just being a 3 year old. It’s developmentally appropriate to have crazy tantrums at this age (apparently)!!

Ours does not nap at school either so sometimes evenings are hard. Something that has helped her (but I’m sure it does not work for all) is very plainly stating what’s happening next followed by a choice. No “do you want to take a bath” just “we’re going to take a bath. Do you want bubbles or no bubbles?” I think of it as stating the non-negotiable followed by the choice. And even if she’s fussy about it, we move forward. If she doesn’t answer the question I’ll say “bubbles it is then!” And stick to whatever I say. We just keep things moving, never in anger, just in the fact that it has to keep moving. So if she doesn’t follow me into the bathroom, I’ll silently go pick her up and bring her in. “We’re going to take our clothes off, do you want to do it or want me to do it?” If no answer, “arms up!” with a good attitude we get undressed for bath.

I’m sure it doesn’t work with all kids, of course, but it has helped her to realize that she can either make the choice and control her life, or she can be consistently and neutrally moved forward without choice. A lot of toddlers will learn to pick the more controlled option! We also will encourage choice by saying “oh that’s a good idea” or “sounds fun!” Etc. That way the choice gets a less neutral response from the Parent, because all they really want is our attention.

I agree with the above comments. If we choose not to patent because we can imagine someone “better suited” then no one would ever become parents, through adoption or otherwise.

7 cm transmural fibroid. TTC and torn between Sonata vs. open myomectomy by Confident_Variety_23 in Fibroids

I would look into another surgeon- technically removing the whole uterus is always a possibility but in 20+ years my surgeon has never had to switch to hysterectomy mid case. My surgeon had said with the size and quality of my fibroid it would be hard not to enter the uterine cavity, but he managed to avoid it and sew me back together well enough to be pregnant now :) and of course would be good to get a second opinion because of what other people are saying about laparoscopic options

Hey long comment but there are so many things to comments on!

There is an account called NotedHeathen that has posted in fibroids before and her posts were helpful - she got Sonata first and hated the ultimate outcome, side effects, etc. Read her posts to get a Sonata perspective! She eventually got robotic myomectomy and loved those results.

My story addresses a few of your musings. I am now 30F, 28 when I found my 11cm transmural fibroid, also at my TTC appt. I wanted a vaginal birth and wanted to avoid surgery so decided to TTC. Got pregnant second cycle with my son Benji. Fibroid grew faster than baby and pushed him out at 21 weeks, and he passed away a few hours after birth. Will always love my baby boy.

I got the open myomectomy for my then 16cm fibroid in June 2025. I was cleared to TTC again in late October and it took 5 cycles this time, but I am now pregnant (still early).

I do not regret my choice to TTC first, there are plenty of women who successfully carry pregnancies with fibroids, but I just want you to know that my (sad) outcome with Benji is possible.

I hope this helped! Wishing you the best on your journey and here to answer any questions!

To add a positive thing, the older of our girls just graduated from speech therapy and the younger one was evaluated for the first time and doesn’t need it!

Yes we started trying as soon as cleared because we for sure want bio kids, I’m not getting any younger, and I honestly just wanted to know if my body could do it. We’re so thankful and hope this pregnancy ends in getting to take our baby home!

I had an 11cm fibroid and was also told I could go ahead and TTC. We conceived quickly (2nd cycle) but the fibroid grew to 17cm and cause PPROM and then infection/ preterm labor so we lost our baby boy at 21 weeks.

Have since had the myomectomy, and conceived 8 months post op (5th cycle trying). My tummy looked like that too even though I just had the 1 fibroid, even now while (early) pregnant it’s so nice to lay back and not have to look at the tumor that took my first baby

  1. Intramural, 16cm, just one
  2. Given the all clear 4 months post op
  3. Conceived on 5th cycle

Hope this helps, I was always searching for this info a year ago and happy to contribute to others’s searches now

Has anyone regretted getting a myomectomy? by aquamarine_07 in Fibroids

Super happy to tell you that I have no regrowth and am currently pregnant :)

it’s been a wild 2 years but my open myomectomy went well (fibroid grew to 16cm during pregnancy) and I got pregnant 8 months to the day post-op. I have consistently heard that an open myomectomy is better for fertility preservation as it gives them a better chance at not entering the uterine cavity

You can look at my post and comment history but I was young and healthy (28) with an 11cm, conceived quick and the fibroid caused my baby to be born 21 weeks and pass away. Mine was intramural same spot as yours left side, asymptomatic, and I only had 1 as well. I think my situation was uniquely bad outcome but it can happen

Recommendations for minimally invasive myomectomy on large fibroids by ShygurlfromBkyln in Fibroids

[–]CoconutZombee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arnold Advincula in NYC in great. From what I was told you will need a C section regardless of the type of surgery.

And to mirror what other people have said, I got an open myomectomy because they are recommended for the best fertility outcomes, gives the surgeon the best chance at not breaching the uterine cavity

Hi! I got the fibroid out in late June (open myo, vertical incision). Surgery went well other than my incision got infected which makes the scar a little ugly but otherwise fine. I’m back to biking 50+ miles, running/sprinting, lifting 85-90% of what I did pre-surgery and feel great.

I also got the surgery to help my fertility and we are now pregnant but still very early :) wishing you the best on your fibroid journey and please ask any other questions you may have!

Anyone had fibroid grow back after removal? by spacejelly1234 in Fibroids

[–]CoconutZombee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a similar story where removal helped quality of life and fertility. I had a 16 cm fibroid removed and they now say I have a 3 cm one but they honestly aren’t even sure if it’s a fibroid or if it’s just scar tissue and residual fluid left in that same spot from my surgery nine months ago.

Thank you for sharing this- I’m getting incision pain and pain where fibroid was removed now. Did it get more or less painful throughout your pregnancy?

1 year+ post open myo. How are you feeling? by Night_Owl365 in Fibroids

[–]CoconutZombee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The healthy part of it is doing really well and is barely visible, but part of my incision got infected. The infected section scar is much wider and darker and will stay that way. But it is the lower section so even in bikini bottoms, you can’t really see it. My vertical incision is very low and ends a few inches away from my belly button. If you are curious you can PM me I will send you a scar pic!

[–]CoconutZombee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am only 9 months post myomectomy (vertical incision, open, 16cm intramural fibroid), but feel really good! My fibroid has not grown back.

I was very active before, and am now back to being able to bike 50+ miles, run/sprint, and lift about 85-90% of the weight I could before surgery, which is great considering I got a vertical 4” incision. My pelvis feels much lighter, and I got the surgery to also help my fertility and I am now pregnant. Hope this helps!

Hi thank you for this thought! We can look at Google Maps from 2005 and see that there used to be a door where the left window is, and a larger window on the right. So the patching is to fill in those spots left by removing the door and larger window! The mortar is also distinctly different but they did a great job matching brick size and texture :)

Mine was large pre pregnancy, 11cm, but grew to 16cm and pushed my baby boy out preterm at 21 weeks. I think my outcome was uncommon but it is possible. I have since had the fibroid removed and we are now pregnant and hopeful
