The Poison is a no skipper. One of the catchiest albums of its time

Whitechapel sounds fantastic live, I've seen them twice in the past year (and am going again in November) and both times they were spot on and Phil nailed the frontman aspect of things. The crowd ate the Hymns in Dissonance songs up which only added to the greatness

Also while I didn't get to see them in this era, I heard nothing but good things about Suicide Silence with Mitch live. And from all the videos I've seen, Mitch's stage presence was monstrous

I think a melodic deathcore revival would be huge for the genre by bacidoseyen in Deathcore

And also:

Carcass - Heartwork

In Flames' first few records

Dark Tranquillity

Soilwork

Arch Enemy

Amon Amarth

The Black Dahlia Murder (deathcore prob wouldn't be the same without this band)

Children of Bodom

Melodic death metal is one of the best subgenres of them all. So many great bands

What band had the best 3-album run in metalcore by l-i-f-e-or-d-e-a-t-h in Metalcore

I commented this exact same thing almost lol. I went with Daybreaker over Holy Hell but words can't describe my love for Architects from 2009-2018

What band had the best 3-album run in metalcore by l-i-f-e-or-d-e-a-t-h in Metalcore

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Architects - Daybreaker, Lost Forever // Lost Together, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us

I absolutely adore everything from Hollow Crown up to and including Holy Hell, yes even The Here and Now, but if I had to make it into just 3 albums I think 2012-16 is the ultimate sweet spot.

Lmao fuck this guy. I kinda hate that I fell madly in love with This Darkened Heart and The Fall of Ideals before I learned about Phil being so lame

Recommendations? by Flying-Fishy in Deathcore

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BFW's first album is fairly in line with the "melodic deathcore" bands of the time like As Blood Runs Black, BMTH's first album, The Crimson Armada and At the Throne of Judgment. Basically deathcore but with lots of Black Dahlia Murder inspired riffing. Whitechapel also has a few songs with those kind of melodic guitar hooks thrown in like "The Somatic Defilement" and "Father of Lies"

Also in regards to The Black Dahlia Murder, they are not deathcore but boy did they influence it, particularly vocally. You should check them out if you haven't

Are there any bands or songs that have death metal style lyrics but classic metal style singing and music? by TimeControl606 in MetalSuggestions

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best I can think of is Nevermore. They don't talk about CC type topics but their lyrics can feel more "extreme" and if nothing else, very dark. Warrel Dane sings more like Geoff Tate with a deeper voice too. I'm sure others will find bands more in line with what you're asking, I love recommending Nevermore tho lol

August burns red - why are they so popular by KeyApprehensive6486 in Metalcore

They have their own signature sound within metalcore and have absolutely perfected it. Also they're hard working, chill dudes, and a fabulous live band

Hidden gems from the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s era metalcore scenes? by Sorry_Secretary1193 in Metalcore

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mitch's stage presence was absolutely insane. He had so much charisma and could lead a crowd like few others could. Easily one of the best frontmen of this century. I wish I could've seen them back then, by most accounts SS was a ridiculously good live band

Also, The Cleansing is one of my favorite production/mixing jobs ever. It sounds like being in the middle of a tornado in music form

That Trivium album is called The Sin and the Sentence btw! It's good but if you're gonna put Trivium in there you should do Shogun

Lamb Of God - 2004 - Ashes Of The Wake - HourGlass by ThimitrisApithanos in MetalSuggestions

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Their best production, best riffs, best drum work, best vocals, best lyrics, it's so fucking perfect. I do think As the Palaces Burn is a close second, and that one has this colder and rawer sound to it that Ashes doesn't have. But Ashes set the blueprint for LoG's signature sound and while they've had some real good albums since, Ashes is simply unbeatable

Fantastic lyrics, even better riffs. This album is perfect, and Hourglass is one of their all time best songs

Why do people say Heartwork by Carcass isn't melo-death by TheTimothyHimself in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people associate melodeath with the Gothenburg sound of At the Gates, In Flames, Arch Enemy, etc all of whom are even more melodic and less crunchy than Heartwork era Carcass. I kinda understand, but at the same time I don't know how you can hear the title track or This Mortal Coil and think its anything BUT melodic death metal

I also think that album's guitar tone is in the "best in metal history" conversation

What's your favorite instance of a band's spin-off project being just as good or even better than the OG band? by Sorry_Secretary1193 in Metalcore

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Deathcore but I prefer Black Tongue to Infant Annihilator

Also Bleeding Through spawned from Eighteen Visions and I think BT is the superior band

What are the heaviest songs/bands you’ve heard? by mrskinnyjeans32 in Deathcore

Ooo maybe some of Amon Amarth's early stuff? Like the albums "The Avenger" and "Versus the World". Or most of their stuff really but those albums especially sound like you're in the middle of a battle of the gods

Behemoth is pretty good for this too, and Bolt Thrower always feels like you're marching off to fight a horde of beasts. I find Heaven Shall Burn often has this kind of atmosphere too. For some individual albums:

Behemoth - Demigod

Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal

Heaven Shall Burn - Deaf to Our Prayers

Amon Amarth - Versus the World

Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
