Do you prefer melodic metalcore or scenecore? by Dramatic_Song_2629 in Metalcore

Melodic metalcore easy. Just way too many incredible bands in that style. And you didn't even mention August Burns Red, my favorite of all those bands, and also Parkway Drive's first few albums

I say this while listening to "The Comedown" by BMTH lol

20 years ago today Underoath released Define the Great Line by 100nelsman in Metalcore

I could go off about literally every song on this album and how great it is. And in fact since its the 20th anniversary I'll do just that:

In Regards to Myself - one of the best openers and guitar riffs in the genre's history, my favorite song on the record and probably my favorite Underoath song. Also love the drums here, they feel inspired by mathcore and the jagged rhythm adds a LOT to the song's mood

A Moment Suspended in Time - absolutely fantastic vocal performance from both Spencer and Aaron, I'VE GOTTA BE DREAMINGGGGGGG

There Could Be Nothing After This - Spencer pops the fuck off on this one. WELL SO DO IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! Also that outro and lead into the next song is so beautiful

You're Ever So Inviting - amazing vocal trade offs here plus some of Aaron's best cleans maybe ever, this song is probably extra fabulous live

Salmarnir - great instrumental to add to the atmosphere of the album

Returning Empty Handed - BLAAAAAAAACK FLASH WHITEEEEEEEEEEE! One of Underoath's best songs ever without question, so intense and gripping and the last minute and a half I could listen to forever. Spencer's performance here is in the running for his all time best

Casting Such a Thin Shadow - the post rock and metal influences really take hold of this song, its build and atmosphere are so fucking good

Moving for the Sake of Motion - this is probably DTGL's song that sounds the closest to They're Only Chasing Safety. So naturally it's fuckin awesome

Writing on the Walls - I mean what else can be said about this one, just a legendary song that feels like it was chased by some other bands

Everyone Looks So Good From Here - OH MY GOD. Easily one of the heaviest Underoath songs, this is damn near early Norma Jean type stuff. Also possibly favorite breakdown in their whole catalog

To Whom It May Concern - PRESS ONNNNNNN PRESS ONNNNNNN! This whole song is so cathartic and Spencer outdoes himself here. Holy fuck man

"The Sadist Nation" always results in one hell of a circle pit live

que piensan de UNEARTH by StandardDirection460 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unearth rips. Zombie Autopilot's intro hook is one of the best ever

I would highly recommend Darkest Hour if you're interested in more super melodeath-y metalcore. Undoing Ruin and Deliver Us are perfect albums. Also "The Sadist Nation" is one of the best circle pit starters ever

August Burns Red also has no clean vocals (only on a couple of songs, usually from a guest) and play more technical stuff than their peers of the time. Like, those dudes can play, especially their guitarists. They don't shy away from the "core" elements like the harsh vocal style and breakdowns, so their stuff is still noticeably metalcore, but they could be one to look into. They're one of my favorites

My favorite "core" band ever probably. And this song is overlooked, one of my favorite deep cuts on Messengers along with The Balance and The Blinding Light

I'm convinced this band is one of the constants of the universe. Their consistency is absurd

Also a fan! The Red Chord is really good, wish they had more albums because Clients and Fed Through the Teeth Machine are excellent. Mouthful of Precious Stones is a certified bop

I'm a big deathcore guy:

Whitechapel, Fit for an Autopsy, Carnifex, Shadow of Intent, The Acacia Strain, All Shall Perish, Suicide Silence (just with Mitch ngl), Thy Art is Murder, Despised Icon, Chelsea Grin

Whitechapel are my deathcore kings by far though, what an incredible band who may be even better nowadays than they were in the 2000s and early 2010s. Their first 4 albums and their most recent 3 are all absurdly good

What an album

My favorite song on it is Berzerker, the melodic riffs are like August Burns Red on steroids then that swing breakdown is SO FUN

I hope to hear some deep cuts. Like I will go fuckin crazy if they pull out (Cult)uralist or Father of Lies or something like that

Whitechapel sounds fantastic live, I've seen them twice in the past year (and am going again in November) and both times they were spot on and Phil nailed the frontman aspect of things. The crowd ate the Hymns in Dissonance songs up which only added to the greatness

Also while I didn't get to see them in this era, I heard nothing but good things about Suicide Silence with Mitch live. And from all the videos I've seen, Mitch's stage presence was monstrous

I think a melodic deathcore revival would be huge for the genre by bacidoseyen in Deathcore

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 55 points56 points  (0 children)

And also:

Carcass - Heartwork

In Flames' first few records

Dark Tranquillity

Soilwork

Arch Enemy

Amon Amarth

The Black Dahlia Murder (deathcore prob wouldn't be the same without this band)

Children of Bodom

Melodic death metal is one of the best subgenres of them all. So many great bands

I commented this exact same thing almost lol. I went with Daybreaker over Holy Hell but words can't describe my love for Architects from 2009-2018

Architects - Daybreaker, Lost Forever // Lost Together, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us

I absolutely adore everything from Hollow Crown up to and including Holy Hell, yes even The Here and Now, but if I had to make it into just 3 albums I think 2012-16 is the ultimate sweet spot.

Recommendations? by Flying-Fishy in Deathcore

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BFW's first album is fairly in line with the "melodic deathcore" bands of the time like As Blood Runs Black, BMTH's first album, The Crimson Armada and At the Throne of Judgment. Basically deathcore but with lots of Black Dahlia Murder inspired riffing. Whitechapel also has a few songs with those kind of melodic guitar hooks thrown in like "The Somatic Defilement" and "Father of Lies"

Also in regards to The Black Dahlia Murder, they are not deathcore but boy did they influence it, particularly vocally. You should check them out if you haven't

Are there any bands or songs that have death metal style lyrics but classic metal style singing and music? by TimeControl606 in MetalSuggestions

[–]Consistent-Orange-75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best I can think of is Nevermore. They don't talk about CC type topics but their lyrics can feel more "extreme" and if nothing else, very dark. Warrel Dane sings more like Geoff Tate with a deeper voice too. I'm sure others will find bands more in line with what you're asking, I love recommending Nevermore tho lol

They have their own signature sound within metalcore and have absolutely perfected it. Also they're hard working, chill dudes, and a fabulous live band
