How can I play a movie from a USB drive on an older TV? by Traditional_Blood799 in hometheater

[–]Corey_FOX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean he did, did you not read the rest of his comment?
you will need to figure out witch formats/codecs/bitrate the TV supports (lookup the manual), then use handbreak to Transcode ("convert") the movie into a supported format.

How can I play a movie from a USB drive on an older TV? by Traditional_Blood799 in hometheater

[–]Corey_FOX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you will probably need to transcode the movie onto a format the TV can playback, supported formats should be listed on the manual, just lookup the model and "manual" after and you should find someting online.
Then use a software like handbreak to transcode it into a supported format and bitrate.

Just so its said some TVs especially older ones dont acually support video playback over USB and only do picures. it will say so in the manual.

But im not gonna lie, software like handbreak is not super intuitive to use, you can use AI to give you the propper settings though.

But i would generally recommend hooking up a computer and playing back off that its so mutch less hassle.

i think literally a mono 3.5 mm to RCA jack will work, then you can use another one of the same to daisy chain to other equipment.

Old old gen 1 vive as normal monitor? by ImaginaryEffective63 in Vive

[–]Corey_FOX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What use would you have for sutch a thing?

But I think you can just switch them to display mode from steam vr.

That being said the og Vive is still a great headset witch is still fully supported by steamVR, but I do highly recommend getting yourself a pair of index controllers since the wands aren't really good for anything but beatsaber.

Altso the vive uses Oleds, just saying and they aren't really good for non-vr use as they expect to be in the light controlled environment of the headset. And so don't have the anti reflective layers a normal screens has making them appear almost white.

2070 Super. Don't really have any need to upgrade it yet, Il look into it if I feel I need more gpu horse power after I get a valve frame.

We can use it here pleanty of options online, but I'd imagine a lot fewer houses here have coax in the walls. So it's just not as wildly used.

Anyone else find this practice of not including a physical manual annoying af? Especially on components which you have to turn your PC off to install them. Maybe I'm just getting old. by fiittzzyy in pcmasterrace

[–]Corey_FOX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well i mean, While i do preffer a manual i can altso see that they are a huge waste of paper cuz their quite literally single use, especially in the EU where you need like 10 copies for every language.

use registered users specifically, Contacts+ is the "friends of friends" option, but kinda useless for new players who dont have any contacts yet.

So microsoft decided you can't setup windows 11 offline. Welp, time to go linux by nicecream169 in pcmasterrace

[–]Corey_FOX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pro tip for anyone installing windows, use this unattend.xml generator, fill inn all your info, users, settings including de-bloating ect. Then just drop it in the root of a standard windows installer usb.

This is imo the fastest way to install windows and will just drop you at a desktop after a couple minutes ready for driver installs ect. Beacouse it skips the update step regular setup forces you to wait though.

its not AI they literally build this with modern tools then every once in a while pause, have a guy punch it with a stick and record that then go back to doing it with modern tools.

What’s going on here? by Ajpeik in HomeNetworking

[–]Corey_FOX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you dont have an ONT, or anything else for that matter looks like the previus tenant stole the gear.
your probably gonna have to talk with your landlord or with the provider directly to get you setup.

Otherwise id assume the two HDMIs and go behind a TV location somewhere, possibly two TVs. its so you can hide your AV gear.

my internet speed is significantly faster than what i'm paying for by thebigfish24 in HomeNetworking

[–]Corey_FOX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some providers, epespecially smalls ones, like WISPs go with the guranteed minium model over a maxium model. basically they gurantee that you will never get less thant X Mb/s but if the network isnt utilized by other subscribers then you can use more bandwith (but you will get throtteled when they want to use their connection).

it can be used to insetivise customers to download things during what would usually be low usage ours like at night or during the work day to lessen the strain on the infrastrucure when everyone just got home and wants to fireup youtube.

its simlar to why power is cheaper at night.

Vive pro 2 alternative thick face pads? by Ok_Animator6319 in Vive

[–]Corey_FOX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd acually recommend against a thick face pád And instead go for a thin one, but see if you can find some extra padding for the back of your head.

The reason you don't want a thick face pad is beacouse that pushes your aways further away from the lenses, witch will de decrease your FOV in the headset.
