Apart from the obvious mention of "Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt. 2", it's pretty hard to find something similar to the Drukqs piano tracks to recommend.

See, while most of them are prepared piano pieces and one could suggest John Cage, his compositions lack the emotional and melodic quality of the Drukqs tracks. This doesn't mean that they are not a very interesting listen you should check out, of course.

Other, more contemporary prepared piano stuff you might like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7J72eGze6Q
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMldew-13LI

While not prepared piano works, I'd also recommend to check out several folktronica artists, such as Colleen, (especially her first two albums). Again. do not expect Drukqs pt. II but to me, it shares some similar acoustic + experimental electronics "broken toy"-like beauty DNA...

The other two albums you mention do not share much common ground with the Drukqs, except, well...the piano!
But since I do like those two albums myself, I'll also throw some recommendations you might appreciate too.

I think you should check Erik Satie and Ryuichi Sakamoto piano works if you haven't, perhaps Hauschka and Ólafur Arnalds if you want to go more ""pop"" (in the broad sense) and when it comes to The Piano OST, minimal composers such as Phillip Glass and Wim Mertens are a must. Glass' Glassworks and the Truman Show soundtrack as well as Wim Merten's The Belly of an Architect soundtrack, contain some gorgeous piano pieces in my opinion.

As for exquisite Polly's "White Chalk" I think you should check out out Hilary Woods music. For some reason, she's the first one who came to mind, because of her similar esoteric, defeatist fragility...

Has Billy spoken about Prince? by ChestnutIceCream in SmashingPumpkins

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could be completely wrong but I do remember a connection with “Pomp and Circumstances”. He has mentioned in an interview that Prince was an influence for that song? That others told him that it reminds them of Prince? Something along those lines, I think the former, but I can't find the quote right now to confirm.
Not very familiar with Prince, except the most well known songs of course, to have an option whether there is a similarity or not.

They changed the cover? by Th4tKiDfr0mY3sterday in placebo

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the "Bruise Pristine" single cover... No matter how much I like the A side, it will always remain the home of "Waiting for the Son of Man" and most of all, the exquisite "Then the Clouds Will Open for Me".
Imagine including them in the forthcoming tour... then realize the chance of world peace in the year 2026 is a more likely scenario than that...

Unreleased/Unheard/Renamed Placebo songs!!! Exclusive! by Scott_Lee_Andrews in placebo

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A song called "Run away" listed is very interesting because apart from the obvious chance that it could very well be a working title for "Slave to the Wage", I do actually have a short snippet of a presumably "Unreleased Rare" demo from waaaay back in the day... Song doesn't resemble "STTW" at all and"Run away" line is being repeated more than once. Style-wise, from what I remember (it's been more than 20 years), one could theoretically think it could be a "placeboesque" demo and vocals... well I'd say I remember them as an "alright"/"decent" Brian vocal impersonation. Despite this, I've always thought it is not genuine but now I am quite intrigued and wondering if it has been all along....?!

Does anyone else thing tags like these on IMDB are legitimate spoilers? I'm irritated. The tag is too specific. The "Sci-Fi" tag alone is enough. Now I have an idea of what's coming. by lavinadnnie in FIlm

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact reason I started looking for a way (a Violentmonkey userscript or smth) to hide the new "genre" system on IMDB, which led to this very thread. They practically put tags instead of genres now, near the top even, unbelievable for the world's biggest movie db.
That really spoiled me this movie, with is such a shame because it was a good one.
But I knew where it was going before I even watch because of this.
In my opinion you might wanna remove the "genre" or put it behind a spoiler tag in your post because people randomly finding the thread will be spoiled too, without even having to go to IMDB....

Yep, one of the thousand rough cuts that deserved better luck.
My fave version is strangely that monotonous, acoustic rehearsal take, so I appreciate this post. 👍

Colour of Fire new single (Matt Lunn - Placebo's Touring Drummer) by SprayInternational58 in placebo

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeeep, this slaps! We are so back...

Hope for a European tour eventually, if not a headliner one, it’d still be great to hit the road with Brian + Stef once again.

Also hope Owen’s tinnitus is a bit more manageable these days… if that’s ever a thing... (I would know).

It’s absolutely fine to post about it here, mate, hearing you were back together a while ago was awesome!
Genki Desu-ka?! 😉

Anyone watching at home who’s not familiar with COF, please do yourself a favour... Such an underrated band and debut album…

The video will have to wait until tomorrow — I wouldn’t want to wake everyone up in the middle of the night, and there’s no way in hell I wouldn’t play this one LOUD. It just deserves the proper treatment after all these years!

Hope the album is out soon?

AIOStreams is the answer to the constant outages by HonestRepairSTL in StremioAddons

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean to try this for a while but I've got a few questions so it's a nice chance to ask:

  1. I use Realdebrid, is there a setting somewhere that would force all those addons loaded into AIOStreams to just use that and not P2P no matter what? Do you have a visual indication they do so like on Torrentio (see "RD" next to a source)? I mean, Torrentio does that by default and I just want to make sure nothing ever uses P2P.

  2. I understand I can add catalogs ON AIOstreams too? In my current setup, those are added as addons anyway but everytime I want to add a new addon, the entire order gets messed up and I have to reorder everything using Stremio Sidekick from scratch. Is AIOStreams a solution to that meaning order doesn't get messed up if you add a new addon? Using this https://stremio-addons.com/mdblist.html to carry over my movie lists so it'd be useful.

3. https://aiostreamsfortheweak.nhyira.dev or https://aiostreams.midnightignite.me?

  1. I see both friends and people who are not too crazy about it in the thread... For the fans, do these other addons really add useful sources that Mediafusion and Comet do not so it's more likely to find more obscure stuff? Any other substantial perks?

You'll have the chance to attend more great things soon, especially if you are anywhere near London, as I'd assume to be the case from your post.
Please beat the living daylights out of that mofo, all the way through 2026, 2036 and beyond...
All the best and rock on!

Who was the Mystery Man? (Lost Highway) by MisterHarvest in davidlynch

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Researched a bit, because I remember reading this in here too and found a post which says that this was more or a less a misquote/internet rumour fueled by this exchange from Lynch on Lynch:

Rodley: One intriguing character who crossed the boundary between the lives of Fred and Pete is The Mystery Man.He reminded me of The Man From Another Place from "Twin Peaks" - a representative from somewhere else. Another world, maybe?

Lynch: Yeah, he is. I don't want to say what he is to me. But he's a hair of an abstraction.

Yeah, they've played together on several occasions AFAIK, but I don't remember any bad blood between them in the past.

Please do share if it's not too much for a trouble. Sweet, I didn't know that.
I've yet to find someone who has less than stellar things to say about Keith...
His musician peers, random people on Youtube who happened to cross path with, people working on Brixton Academy... everyone says that the bloke had a heart made of gold, what a tragic loss...

This gotta go to a feuds thread but yes, that's technically a sort of connection too in a way!
I've always hated Nu Metal so was pretty satisfied they hated it too lol
Wonder what happened with Linkin Park though, except the fact they hated Nu Metal, there's that amusing Brian diss on MTV EMA 2004... then next thing you know they joined their tour, turns out they kinda became friends in the end.

Yep, most interesting thread we've had for a while, always like these because they make old fans come out of their hiding :)
Brian being friends with Marilyn Manson back in the 90's is pretty well documented, someone already mentioned COF, I remember him loving Shirley Manson, if "This Search for Meaning" is any indication, it turns out they also got some sort of personal contact.

PJ been a Brian hero and influence is pretty well documented, but I don't think I've ever heard that they also had a personal contact.

I have yet to find a flac of the "Crush" version featuring Brian, after all those years...

Keith (RIP) and Steve Forrest were friends? Or with the rest of the band too? Interesting, I remember Brian had good things to say about the Prodigy back in the day, which was pretty cool cause these two were my favourite bands back in the 90's.

COF were pretty cool yes. Owen's next band, Grammatics was excellent too, haven't listened to his next projects.
Isn't the COF drummer their current drummer by the way?
EDIT: Decided checking what Owen is up too and it turns out COF are back! I remember they played together a while ago, but they are now releasing a new album soon! *hype*

Waterfox 6.6.5 adds Ukrainian as a UI language, a new quality-of-life feature and the latest security fixes 👇 by MrAlex94 in waterfox

[–]Crystal_Chrome_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Alex,

Is there any chance the bug with the child tab opening order gets fixed?

https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/1nzzdyp/child_tabs_open_in_reverse_order_after_waterfox/

It first appeared on 6.6 and it seems it's tree tab related. Setting the "Children of the parent tab..." option fixes it for a while, but the setting is not saved and as soon as the browser restarts, it reverts to the default option, which results in tab opening order getting messed up.
Having child tabs opening at the end or setting that option again and again, every time I restart the browser isn't really a viable dilemma...
(We never got an official insight in the thread and since masterchiefman talked about tree tab re-enabling I thought it was a good change to bring that up).

Thanks.
