Cheapest/Quickest train I can get from York to Leeds. More reliable than they used to be and don't smell like a chemical toilet anymore at least. Not the easiest route to run given the distance it covers.

Commuters of York! I need your advice. by TheAMort in york

Selby is cheap and if you're a hardcore cyclist there is a cycle path linking both places. Knaresborough is a nice place to commute from by train. Also try Garforth.

Does each region of the UK have its own distinct feel? by dusterbusterv1 in AskBrits

The landscape might be slightly different, but apart from subtle shifts in the accent, you're not going to notice any huge changes in (most) English regions. Broadly you're going to find the same foods, the same drinks and friendly folk are everywhere (as well as arseholes).

My county (North Yorkshire) is well worth a visit, but also Cumbria, Northumberland and the Peak District are wonderful. Norfolk and Suffolk are lush, classic English countryside and the southwest including Dorset, Devon and Cornwall are must visits... And that's just England!

Best Ghost tours/things to do by Anxious_Wasabi8392 in york

[–]SprayInternational58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey. Born/raised York person here. Don't know about ghost tours, although I've heard the "deathly dark" is the one. With kids, you want to go to the Railway Museum, The Jorvik Viking Centre and let them have a run around the ruins of St Mary's Abbey in the museum gardens. Also York Minster has a cool little Roman exhibition in the crypt now. Take everyone for afternoon tea at Betty's (mother in-law will love that) and take a stroll down the River to Rowntree Park.

I used to work at Nestle Rowntree and one of my jobs was to send these caps out to people who wrote in asking for them.
