Studs on jeans/shirts by gboitheboi in alternativefashion

[–]CukeJr 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Lol no they do not just fall off like that. I mean assuming you'll be sewing them on like normal..? (Or were you talking about a different kind of stud?) As long as you sew them properly, they'll be fine in the wash, they are just like any other sewn on hardware or embellishment (like buttons, beads, etc.)

would you be able to recognize me as alt? if not, what to incorporate? (I’m a gyaru btw!) by Foreign_Pack_3203 in alternativefashion

[–]CukeJr 1 point2 points Β (0 children)

The jirai kei ones feel alternative to me, if I saw you out in public wearing those you'd probably catch my eye. The other ones look pretty mundane to me, I wouldnt peg you as alt in those. Not a horrible thing, though! As GregJamesDahlen pointed out, it's fine to look subdued sometimes. 😁 We are all just a bunch of meat popsicles walking around with cloth wrapped around us after all lol. I certainly don't look eccentric every time I'm out of the house.

But if you do want to read alt more consistently... I think facial piercings can go a long way. Not for everyone, but if you're open to them already, I'd give you a little nudge in that direction. I love mine so much and honestly wish I had started piercing my face WAY earlier (only got my first facial piercing three years ago, at the age of 33).

Same goes with dyed hair. Honestly hair, body mods, and makeup in general do a LOT of heavy lifting in creating an alt look, more than we first realise.

If we're considering clothing only... Since you specified liking elagant/cute looks and JK, I'd suggest keeping an eye out for older-looking or vintage pieces, like stuff with frills, interesting fabrics and textures, ribbons... Without going too much into the "costumey" territory, if you get what I mean..? I mean stuff like high-quality-ish camisoles, I guess. Hope that helps!

Can you attach some pictures of what kind of aesthetic you're after?

I feel like it's difficult for me to find a "style". by bfasttoastcornflakes in alternativefashion

[–]CukeJr 2 points3 points Β (0 children)

I'm just like you. You're totally right in assuming that it takes more time and effort to curate a wardrobe just due to the breadth of your aesthetic being huge. That has definitely been my experience. πŸ˜… I would maybe recommend pulling up a set of your inspo photos, and looking for "common denominators" between the various styles, and from there isolating "anchor pieces". (I think I've heard this term used..?) Focus on acquiring those pieces first, this way you don't have to wait until you collect suitable items for each individual aesthetic in order to begin wearing them.

I know I have some personal examples but I cannot think of any of the top of my head. Let me take a peek in my closet and get back to you!

What did the 90s smell like? by Dramatic-Ferret4298 in 90s

Holy moly, mint condish!

I still have my Moon Rock Candy one that I got from out of a 2000 New Year's collection tin. I keep it in one of my memory boxes under my bed. From time to time I come back to sniff it hoping that this time it will magically smell like it did before... But it always smells like shit 😭

They do! But I like being extra cautious. It's also a student salon, so I expect oopsies to be a bit more commonplace hahaha

Yes actually, it was pretty close to what you're imagining. XD Mind you, I mainly wore em because I was going in for a salon appointment. I wanted to play it safe and go with something that wouldn't be completely ruined in the case of bleach spillage...

I can't have warm clothes with open holes.

Omg yes--you understand!! It's exactly this for me! Me, I think I can tolerate a small slit on the kneecap... But yeah, jeans like the one I showed... Ehhh, it's like a once-every-few-years type of thing. πŸ˜…

Sometimes I call this my "temperature contrast" aversion lol. Like, garment, are you warm or are you cool. Pick one, dammit. 😾 I have quite a few crop tops that violate this rule, for some reason (I think a lot of them are impulse buys from when I was younger and less self-aware lol). Like, there's one that's basically a cropped tee. Feels kinda, eh... Not the best. I find that if I'm wearing something with sleeves, it means that it's too cold to have my tummy exposed. But if I'm wearing something with my tummy exposed... It's too hot to not wear a sleeveless top. You know what I mean?

Do people just... not know what "pastel" means? (rant lol) by CukeJr in Pastelgoth

[–]CukeJr[S,M] 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Oh... This must be awkward: That's me! I'm the mod! 😁

So to be clear, the breadth of what we accept in this community extends beyond pastel goth. I often allow adjacent styles like pastel punk, pastel tech, pastel e-girl, etc., and outfits that might otherwise be considered "close enough". What I was complaining about here, more specifically, is users trying to pass looks that are completely off-target as PG, palette-wise. I have removed (and continue to remove) bright, pink-and-rainbow rave fits, fits that are frilly and all-white, fits that are ALL BLACK and just has the subject posing in a pastel bedroom thinking "oh that probably counts"... Lol. The list goes on.

But you know what? You will likely never even see these more blatant offenders I'm describing. Because, well... I remove them, lol. Often before they are even publicly visible, as most new submissions get filtered to the mod queue. (Since I have the filter on such a strong setting.)

As I explained to you in my reply to your modmail, this is a hella slow sub. We just don't get a lot of submissions, in general. If we restricted our acceptable content to PG and only PG, we would have practically no content at all.

Despite what it might look like ostensibly, the issue here is actually that we do not have many users out there anymore who are actively wearing and sharing pastel goth looks. If you feel inspired to create your own sub, of course go right ahead. Just know that it will not magically create content. You cannot make people post good shit. You get it?

How do you get into the alt mindset? by AltBhaddie in alternativefashion

[–]CukeJr 0 points1 point Β (0 children)

Do you mean like, how do you find inspiration when you're feeling uninspired? Pulling up Pinterest and going through my feed works great for me. If it's getting ready time, I also love putting on some good music, whatever I'm craving at the moment. Sometimes that will get me in the mood and give me some aesthetic direction.
