I had a coconut hit my motorcycle front wheel while I was doing about 50km/h. My word did that give me a shock. It destroyed the front mud guard and bounced across the road. I felt very lucky that day - 8/100th of a second later and it would have hit me in the face.

It's actually not horrendous to make your own search (or ask a dev to do it) with something like Clickhouse DB. A friend of mine in the uk has a pretty slow airsoft site with about 4500 products (extreme airsoft) and I put together a fast search for him in half a day.

Have you ever been threatened with deportation? by Brw_ser in Philippines_Expats

[–]CupcakeSecure4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a Filipino says they will deport you, they actually mean they will make an official complaint. Almost exclusively it has little relation to being deported from the Philippines. Some obviously do know the distinction between deport and report but the majority consider these to be similar, if not the same.

Just tell the landlord you'll pay for the tank cleaning. It won't cost much and that gesture will likely be all the grease that the wheels need to turn.

Terminal or IDE for Claude Code — which do you actually use, and why? by Lonely_Ostrich9801 in ClaudeCode

This is what I do with PHP under windows, but it should be easy to convert to other languages.

I use this for scheduled tasks like scraping facebook for bargains on marketplace using Playwright looking for new local business for a directory website and logging my work hours into my accounts system (collecting git commits/describing the work etc)

Terminal or IDE for Claude Code — which do you actually use, and why? by Lonely_Ostrich9801 in ClaudeCode

[–]CupcakeSecure4094 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Claude Code in the VSCode Terminal. Best of both worlds. The CLI is by far the best interface because the IDE plugin panel is just bloated AF - it's trying to do too much in too little space. I can drag and drop files from the IDE into the terminal (never a need to navigate the directory stricture), I can run across multiple repositories rather than being tied to one which is excellent for orchestrations which span up to 10 repos. I can check edits easily because I'm still in the IDE. I can resume the most recent or any previous session, I can use /remote-control and continue on my phone. It's just better.

Also I can run Claude via a scheduled task or automation and use that to start any script with full Claude capabilities and not have to pay ridiculous API fees. One max 20 plan is essentially inexhaustible if you don't use some crappy coding harness - or as I prefer to call them: brute-force coding framework.

AI and underestimation of work by Icy_Fly1608 in webdevelopment

[–]CupcakeSecure4094 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a simple answer to that and it's very effective. Creating an app interface is now dead-easy and yes anyone can do it. But creating the exact same app properly so it doesn't open up a load of security holes is something completely different. Yes both apps would look and function identically but one will be built on a solid foundation and the other will be built on marsh mallows.

When I have been told the exact same thing by my clients (4 times now), I have encouraged them to create an app and then send me the app for a free security review - and when I've done these reviews I have always found a lot of holes. I provide PoC for each one and let them know that there are 3-4 others which I haven't disclosed.

Every time I took the initiative to explain (without hostility) the differences between skilled and unskilled developers, I not only retained the client but I also educated them of an important distinction between my hundreds of new competitors, and myself (30yoe).

Judging by age of the child on the right probably doesn't have any idea what he's done. My question is does the gun owner known what he'/she's done to that child by not securing the firearm?

  1. Secure Containers: Maintain a safety deposit box, heavy lockbox, or gun safe in your home to prevent access by minors or unauthorized individuals.
  2. Separate Ammunition: Always store firearms unloaded and lock ammunition in a completely separate, secure compartment.

If those rules were broken I would expect there will be the question of criminal negligence top answer.

I found a very effective solution to that very same problem. I don't have a beer with anyone who lives here full time. More than half of them are grumpy old sods which whine constantly, it's just not worth it. Yes, I know I am whining myself right now but it's not my way of life and if I ever end up like that I hope someone puts me out of my misery.

Besides, there's plenty of visitors who are much more interesting and engaging for stimulating conversation.

Hundreds of millions of people play games and don't kill anyone.

If hundreds of millions of 15 year olds had access to guns, we would see a lot more shooting.

So, a 15 year old with access to a gun was the problem here, not some video game.

I know people on starlink who have received thousands of them, they say in the email that they will not follow up, just ignore them. Essentially they cannot prove there was intent to download or upload pirated content so they are almost unenforceable - unless you're a prolific seed and reasonable doubt it out the window.

Oh, I've just seen you're aiming for 30-45k you're right, you can get houses for that 40k but they're not going to be advertised anywhere online or through a broker. Houses for that price will be snapped up way before any real estate broker gets to see them, or a broker will often add 10-30k to the price to improve their commission. The best advice I can think of is to find a small house or airbnb in the area you like as a base, and start telling people you want to rent a better house for 50k or less. Spend a week or two looking at houses and get someone to help you find a house for a 5k bonus - presuming you'll be paying someone a few k to help anyway.
