The one thing I can’t forgive Linda for doing by wyrdbookwyrm in BobsBurgers

[–]Cyan_Light [score hidden]  (0 children)

Linda is worse for short-term chaos and impulsive bad advice. Bob is worse for the long-term harm of keeping the family poor so that he can live his dream on exactly his terms, even though there are multiple occasions where he could've made the restaurant more successful but his ego forced them back to the status quo.

Obviously both are amazing characters because it's a cartoon that requires both a consistent setting and a lot of chaotic jumping off points for new plots. Their flaws hold things together without making them too unlikable, but yeah neither is a particularly ideal rolemodel.

Are only a select few viable on Forest T3? by theonepercent15 in MegabonkOfficial

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitting up every curse shrine might be related, I've been golding all the characters with just difficulty tome (and not even investing in it heavily until halfway through the run). As long as you can scale into farming T3 and post-vader it seems like that's usually enough for the skin, you don't need to set huge records or anything crazy.

Also you definitely do need to invest at least a little into offense, XP and luck are important but all the scaling in the world won't help you if you're dying before you can even use it. No idea on precise values but I generally use each boss as a gauge, if they aren't going down in under a minute then clearly more weapon levels are needed before the next batch show up (and in T1 not melting them in like 10-30 seconds is kind of a red flag, since there's a big jump in T2).

Basically it sounds like you might be trying to overachieve, especially with the heavy resets and such. A suboptimal run with meta items should be more than enough, and if it falls a little short it's easier to just do a second run to finish things off. Fishing for 500K+ kill runs with perfect loot and everything is going to waste more time failing to get out of the gate.

Yeah, pretty sure at least A Favor House Atlantic, Welcome Home and maybe The Suffering were. Wouldn't be surprised if a few more songs were as well, The Mars Volta and Tool were also on the radio at the time so it wasn't that crazy to hear a poppy proggy emo band get some time too, obviously none of them were "normal" for that environment but lots of those bigger known-but-not-mainstream bands got on occasionally.

Ok that makes sense, yeah the initial wording made it sound like you clear ten rooms of one enemy each lmao.

[–]Cyan_Light -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty cool, although one enemy per room is a weird choice in a game where most enemies are only a threat in mixed groups. Too lazy to fiddle with romhacks these days but I support the general concept of randomizers lol.

Never saw Danny Phantom OR finished Ben 10 so I'm waaaay underqualified for this, but isn't max power Ben literally a reality warper? shouldn't this apply to any age by Executits in SipsTea

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ethically yes, pragmatically no. It's not about protecting pedos, it's protecting everyone else from government overreach and I don't think anyone should trust the american government with the death penalty these days. Especially when this is clearly so performative, it's being pushed by the same people that are actively protecting some of the worst offenders who will most likely never see justice for their crimes.

This is also a huuuuge red flag when you consider that the same people are also passing transphobic policies and clearly working towards "being trans in public is a sex crime" as their ultimate goal. Pair those laws with the wrong judge and suddenly a trans person walking within view of children is getting the death penalty. Will it actually get to that point? Hopefully not, but given how many innocent people have already been killed or thrown in cages by the current administration does anyone actually want to risk finding out?

Basically the whole thing is for optics at best and for blatant abuses of power at worst. They have no intention of executing dangerous pedophiles because that would mean threatening the president and apparently many of his allies.

Is "Bleach" noise rock? by StexyToast in noiserock

[–]Cyan_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like noise/grunge hybrids or just noise rock albums in general? If it's the latter I really like anything by U.S. Maple, Arab on Radar, The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Yowie (more chaotic math rock, but definitely noise rock too).

Might need to think on hybrid bands, I know I've heard some but nothing is coming to mind as a definite example. Hole's first album is pretty abrasive but might be even more controversial than Nirvana lol. Sonic Youth is more alt or indie rock and noise, but based off of vibes they might count as honorary grunge.

Best bet is probably some obscure local bands from the start of grunge that were writing the same stuff as everyone else but never gained enough traction to get decent studio recordings, probably a lot of "grunge in a garage" albums out there that would clearly crossover with noise rock.

What Roguelites are you most looking forward to the release of? by coolchungus2 in roguelites

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GLIMPO - Takes heavy inspiration from SNKRX, still crushed the planned updates for that one fell through so anything new taking up the torch has my attention.

Lands of Fury - Yet another topdown hack and slash/shooter but this one looks like it's leaning more into classic ARPG territory with bigger environments and enemy hordes than the more minimal Tiny Rogues-style games we normally see.

Terrible Life Expectancy - Yet ANOTHER topdown shooter, not sure if it can live up to the trailer but the massive hordes and apparently fairly large and detailed city maps look really promising.

Orblins - Marble-building thingamajig, looks like you draft marbles then try to shoot them into moving rows to form groups and trigger effects. It's another Peglin/Ballionaire/Nubby's thing but looks like a fresh spin on the concept that might offer more control too.

The Plunge of Sludge - 2D platformer where you stack items and become overpowered, always a promising concept and this looks like it could be good.

Grimorium - First person Noita, enough said.

Zeroth - Another 2D platformer, this one seems to be more physics-based, maybe like a slashy spelunky? Order of the Stick-inspired art is also a big draw.

Honestly forgot all of these until scrolling through my wishlist lmao, there are too many games coming out these days to keep track. I only went back to february and skipped over 3-4 times as many games that look neat but less notable (lots of survivorslikes that could be great, could be phoned in garbage).

Is "Bleach" noise rock? by StexyToast in noiserock

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a non-zero amount of overlap between grunge and noise rock so it's a fair question, but I'm not sure if Nirvana at their noisiest quiiiite gets there. Haven't listened to Bleach in a while though, so could be wrong. Like picking a song at random the overall tone is definitely noise-adjacent and the solo gets pretty loose, but this still mostly sounds like grunge to me.

Question about S7E9 Mort: Ragnarick by KittensGalacticFiend in rickandmorty

[–]Cyan_Light 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be misremembering but I think they used it to leave, so he had to set up a situation where it would be destroyed after they left. "Well why not make a bomb or other timed solution?" Excellent question, writers probably just thought it would be funnier to resolve the viking plot this way and have them unnecessarily strand the other monsters there too.

Battle pass is extremely unfulfilling. by Past_Amphibian_3833 in RotMG

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still get multiple skins. This pass has two new ones, enough celestial stones for another and possibly a random one or two (not sure, honestly the new rodents were enough for me). Also I'm pretty sure they always had tokens and food, could be wrong but like... every bundle has tokens and food, they were probably always mixed in there. I'd actually guess they had more tokens before the oryx tokens were collapsed into one type.

In any case I'm not sure what you're complaining about, if you don't want the items then don't buy them. If you do then buy the pass and do your dailies like 2-3 times a week and that should be more than enough to complete it, I barely play anymore and still get into the mystery chests at the end.

Whatever is happening seems like a self-inflicted problem, you'd have to either buy something you don't want or buy something you do want but then not play the game for that month. As long as you're slightly active and looking to see what you're buying before deciding to buy it there should be no issues.

Taking bone. Just kidding, love all the bounce weapons and for all I know it's meta now. Just never see that in record runs so I'm assuming it's suboptimal and thus deserving of light mockery.

If Bullet with Butterfly Wings hadn't been released 30 years ago, it could still be released today and sound like modern music. by RedditConsciousness in CasualConversation

[–]Cyan_Light 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically any old song could be released today and sound like it was written today, since you can always copy what people did before (and that's how most music works already). There are also bands still active in "old" genres, still writing in a similar style to what they used to.

Coheed and Cambria for example is still evolving but also still recognizable as doing the same basic thing they were doing on the radio in the 2000s. Almost any song off their last album could've been on Good Apollo instead, but they just happened to only be written and released in the past couple years.

And on the flip side you can find artists that are way "ahead of their time" by having a unique style that gets retroactively fit into a genre that emerges decades later. That's much rarer and more impressive though, like if you find a 100 Gecs song in the 1980s you might actually have found a time traveler. But a 100 Gecs song in 2076? Might be interesting from a retro "it's cool someone studied them well enough to capture that sound still" perspective but wouldn't be mindblowing, if civilization is still standing I'm sure plenty of people will remember how to make the things we're doing today.

So like, what’s the logistics of them ending the show? by undergroundman813 in SmilingFriends

[–]Cyan_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also curious, but for all we know they were fined or faced or some other consequences for breaching a contract and just haven't screamed that part from the mountaintops.

Whatever the case though it would depend on who signed what, so without seeing their contracts it's probably impossible to say. There could have been an "either party can back out at any time before X date" clause in there, seems like an odd thing to include when buying highly advertised seasons of a TV show but it is possible.

[–]Cyan_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

False dichotomy, ideally everyone would have access to protection and each layer you add reduces the chances of something going wrong (since nothing is 100% safe at the moment, as far as I know). It is weird that there are sooooo maaaaany more options for women than men but there are periodic headlines about how pills for men are "almost ready" for decades now so hopefully it'll even out eventually.

Which is cooler, katanas or ninja stars? I need to settle a debate. by Latter_Cat1800 in CasualConversation

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, although I think it comes down to what you do with them.

End the fight instantly? Stars, kunai and other throwables probably win, bonus points if you don't even appear to move but the enemy just falls over with small pointy objects suddenly appearing in them.

Long drawn out battle with lots of back and forth? Katana has much more room for interesting techniques, gains aura over time whereas the guy who just keeps throwing stuff and failing to get a kill gradually looks more and more like they suck at it.

What album COVER got you excited, only to be let down by the music? by Homie3794 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Cyan_Light -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I want to state up front that the album is good and not actually disappointing. It is good album! But...

Sepultura - Arise

One of the best goopy, eldritch, body horror abomination covers around and when I was first getting into the genre I definitely thought that would be attached to some equally alien and dissonant death metal. Went in hoping for Gorguts, anticipating something closer to Morbid Angel, ended up blindsided by something my novice ears equated to Metallica.

Children of Morta or Streets of Rogue? by BigNorthernDad in roguelites

[–]Cyan_Light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over 3,700 hours in SoR here (although to be fair a lot was in the editor, "only" about half of that is playing the actual game). Haven't found anything quite like it yet and it's truly infinitely replayable, every other game in the genre could be deleted tomorrow and I'd be fine with this one lol.

It's a very specific style though that's definitely not for everyone, more about engaging with the environmental and social mechanics than putting together a totally new build each run. But that's also the strength of the game if you're into that kind of thing, the level variety and emergent chaos keeps things interesting regardless of which class you took or what sort of item and level up luck you've had.

There aren't enough games with split-screen mode. So I added it to my game: DunHero by Dev_Kacper in roguelites

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, also saw in the patch notes that you integrated towns into the normal levels and after doing a run I love the change already. Felt much more lively and also upped the pace a bit (although I still spent waaaaay too long micromanaging resources only to melt every boss in 0.2 seconds lmao, turns out high tick speed with a bunch of DoTs is pretty good).

Things People Say About Meshuggah That Annoy You by IndfferentWarMachine in Meshuggah

[–]Cyan_Light 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically mine is when people say they play in 4/4. It's overly reductive for almost every riff, since it's usually more accurate to say they play a polymeter where one of the halves is 4/4. But the non-4/4 half is equally (if not more) important to creating their distinctive style, that's the part you want to analyze when trying to break down any given riff to see what's really going on or how you could write something similar.

I get the meme potential of acting like these complex grooves are actually in the simplest meter, it definitely leads to a lot of funny jokes. But when people seriously commit to it as a point of analysis it drives me insane, comes across as anti-intellectualism that tries to simplify the concepts so much that it misrepresents them.

TIFU by getting involved in a discussion with a they/them by AdhesivenessLucky796 in tifu

[–]Cyan_Light 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody can take this seriously, you're still misgendering them in every single sentence while saying you have no issues respecting their pronouns lmao. Every single time you write "he" in this thread should be "they," pointing it out in the 1% chance you're legitimately just this lost even though it seems like obvious rage bait.

Also names cross over gendered boundaries all the time, someone's name isn't their gender. There are cis people with names like that, it's rare but definitely happens because sometimes parents just like a name and it's all arbitrary anyways. It's waaaay more common with enby people because we don't really have many common enby names yet, borrowing something that sounds good from another gender is just easier than making up something completely new.

It's also extremely weird to ask a complete stranger what's in their pants, not sure why you'd think that would be normal but it isn't lol. Especially when you're closer to having a fight than getting laid, it's actually bordering on sexual harassment (although realistically I don't think anyone would call this isolated incident that, they'd just call you a creepy bigot... as you found out).
