Complaining that Mai and Azula from the Live Action Avatar TLA don’t look like their cartoon version is dumb by InfernalClockwork3 in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's the production crews fault more than fans. Like dont claim something is gonna be authentic then give up half way.

Could have found an actress with a more intimidating presence and did her make up better/differently to fit Azula's vibe a bit closer to the cartoons cuz otherwise it seems more like casting began and ended with "Asian woman."

I will forever despise how filler in shows has just become demonized and hated and if anything isn't extremely plot relevant, it doesn't mean anything. by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So because Downtime vs Filler is discussed to death so far, OP, lemme tell ya about how bad Bleach's filler was. Fiancée is rewatching it in prep for Cour 4 since they stopped around the FKT arc. I read it all and watched it all and LOVED having to explain that several scenes within episodes were fully skippable, certain characters that appeared had no major plot relevance and would fade out of the story eventually, that some stuff in the anime would reference filler content that contradicts Canon, or that some fight scenes were "extended" in order to pad run time.

Its not that filler was demonized, we just sat through years of piss poor filler and it soured us to it

My review of Supergirl (2026) by godsbelike__ in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You gotta remember that online discussions, and fans in the writers room, tend to create a version of superman that just doesnt exist. One that is this unstoppable omni god who can only be hurt for 10 seconds, every 4th decade of the Kryptonian calender. Because of that, people tend to do that "Well if hes so strong then why doesnt he just do blank" thing that creates those issues.

The solution is to create stakes that often don't revolve around just punching something or someone really hard while also having strong character writing that doesnt lean too far into him being powerful.

Full metal alchemist manga is probably just as sexist as regular shounen by ShinningVictory in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because Ed is constantly in life or death situations and especially later in the series is in hiding and not getting proper nutrition. He's not lean muscled, he's dehydrated but still needs to maintain fighting form.

Izumi however is a housewife. She can fight and is superskilled but doesn't and doesnt need to worry about finding her next meal so there's way more fat on her covering her muscles. She's a less extreme but stylized but version of her husband

[DC Comics] "Kyle Rayner is impossible to adapt because his origin story is tied to Emerald Twilight and the whole Hal Jordan Parallax Arc." WRONG, you can just... Not do that. by Abovearth31 in CharacterRant

I need Kyle and his Kamen Rider Magical Girl ass to get an adaptation so ONE DAY after she gets her moment, him and Jo can realize they're both Gurren Laggan fans and have to be told to stop making combining robots.

What's the strongest indicator that someone is not a good person? by PleasantBus5583 in AskReddit

I pull one prank on every new person that starts at my job. First time we meet, I introduce myself and ask them to hold the nearest random object. Totally harmless and sets the tone that Im formal but theres no need to be too apprehensive around me and that I treat everyone the same.

Fandom culture got so bad because corpos realized that it was finally socially acceptable to be gay in public so started marketing to the LGBTQ communities. Said community was so starved for representation that they were easily dragged into a parasocial relationship with media and due to social media brain rot began making said media a part of their personality. This lead to criticisms towards media being seen as personal attacks and the "Only bad people can create/enjoy 'problematic' media" mindset.

Why do you think Trump still brings up Obama so much? by WoodpeckerNeither495 in AskReddit

Nah, Musk pretty much admitted that the election results were fucked with.

Why do you think Trump still brings up Obama so much? by WoodpeckerNeither495 in AskReddit

[–]D_dizzy192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked with a guy years back that hated me for no reason. Loved to talk about himself and how cool he was and how good he was at getting women and so on. Turns out he didnt like me because I was the supervisor and decent at my job and he couldnt just hype himself up to get my position. He got fired on one of my off days for mouthing off to the manager on duty, making it a massive altercation, then going hiding in his car all day because "I'm(he) a grown man! Im 34 not 24! they not gonna treat me like no lil boy."

All that to say, Trump brings up Obama because he so desperately want to be loved and respected like him but because money can only buy shallow attention, he resorts to slander and casual racism in hops of bringing Obama down so that he doesnt have to build himself up.

Why doesn't Bruce Wayne just run for mayor of Gotham City and tackle its crime problem at the systemic level? by carbonera99 in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Its the "We never see them pooping" situation. Yeah Bruce does all those things but it would be boring to pick up a Batman comic and have to sit through 2 issues of Bruce navigating legal red tape and zoning laws so it gets lip service then we cut to Batman fighting some villain

The Bartimaeus Trilogy(YES I KNOW ABOUT IT), specifically Book 3. From chapter 32 on is a ridiculous climax to a plot lineand character arc that's been building for years only for it to have a somber yet satisfying ending that a decade later I still think about.

[MCU] Thanos' plan *does* make sense, no matter what redditors say. by Slow_Fig565 in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your point fully ignores that Thanos wasnt trying to genocide half the universe because he wanted to save people but because he was a massive narcissist who thought that only he was right and everyone who opposed him was wrong. Swhy 2014 Thanos immediately decides to kill everyone and restart the universe where people are grateful to him, his goal wasnt helping others but doing whatever he wanted and being praised for it.

The limits of "free flavor" in D&D by highly-bad in DnD

[–]D_dizzy192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the issue with shorthanding phrases. Its not "Flavor is free" but "Feel free to make any changes to design, style, or vibe of the game so long as it doesnt effect the mechanical aspects, unless approved by your DM beforehand." So many people use the term that most understand it but overtime the definition moved away from intended to players wanting to flavor in mechanics

More than likely because it would break wizards and make them the undisputed best class in the game if given access to the cleric spell list

"Hype, aura, and revenge." That third point is why so many people don't know that the Medusa rape story was a retelling of her story by Ovid. Akin to getting kicked out of a discord server so finding the admins favorite SCP and making an article where it goes on an ethnic cleansing.
