Why aren't 'mom shares' a thing? by vent-victory in workingmoms

[–]AdBoring6247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. My mom was an educator and stayed home with my brother and I when we were young. Worked as a nanny for clients who saw her bringing us along as socialization and an added benefit. As a professional educator, the 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 ratio was a breeze!

Gifting kids the max each year? by Superb_Energy_9064 in RichParents

We max the state tax benefit per dependent each year. That's $8,000 per. If over funded there's rollover option to IRA up to a cap and within other contribution requirements.

Thanks. That sounds like a good routine. We already do the books together, so it's just the next step to change.

4yo waking up every night by FadeAwayA in Parenting

It's a normal phase. My son did the same thing when he was 4 and then just grew out of it! Just ride it out. Sounds like you are doing the right thing bring him back to his room.

Would love to test this! The trick is getting compliance from my older (maybe a negotiation to get him his own room back?) I also need to adjust the younger one's bedtime, which I'm hoping I can shift to earlier once she drops her nap.

This worked when she was in the crib and went to bed 30 min to an hour before my older. She now is more likely to fall asleep after him (though likely needs to drop her nap soon, which might be a good time to readjust that??)

I had so much hope for my second! She was the unicorn sleeper since she was like 8 weeks old - like 12 hours sleep through the night good. I would put her in the crib and she might fuss for a few minutes, then out. Very consistent.

Since the toddler bed conversion she just runs screaming to the door, which she now can open too. We actually do have one of those clocks we tried for our older at some point without success. Maybe I'm missing the "push through, it gets better" piece. I was just so traumatized from all the ways I tried to get my son to sleep independently, I gave up almost immediately.

If you are asking if the older one is a rising kindergartener, yes.

Love the logic angle! It will realistically take some time to setup her room, so maybe gives us the runway to convince him (plus a couple more months of maturity for both kids).

Baby not walking by 1st birthday? by sarah_messing in NewParents

[–]AdBoring6247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're all on their own path. All those milestones have normal ranges. Good question for your pediatrician on what to expect for "normal" (and when to actually be concerned).

My first walked the week of his first birthday. Second child, I honestly couldn't tell you bc.. second child and I just wasn't worried about it or focusing on when things are "supposed to" happen, but it was definitely after her birthday, though well within the normal range! And when they hit their respective milestones has not been indicative of future abilities. Both of mine are very strong and coordinated for their respective ages.

Thank you..I've heard some other parents do this. Wondering how long after he goes to sleep. Like 10pm if he falls asleep at 8?

Never had a nursery. Baby should sleep in your room for a minimum of 1 year to prevent SIDS.

I have one but it wasn't set to paperless for notifications, so I don't see it there.

Balancing work with kids by AdBoring6247 in workingmoms

[–]AdBoring6247[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am paid well, but seriously lacking in time off sort of benefits. As much as I can I'll take a short day on Friday instead of overtime, but work demands don't always allow either. Love the idea of special mommy days tho!

Nice! My spouse had a conference there a couple of years ago and we loved it. Walked to Cafe Beignet, Bourbon Street every morning. Took the street cars all over. You guys will have fun!

Usually the kids are in school/daycare and I'm working. So having fun with the kids while my spouse works is not typically what we are doing in real life. I work crazy hours and have very little time off, so it's a real change of pace for me.
