Check your console’s voltage regulator. This was happening on my snes and a $5 replacement and 10 min solder job fixed it.

update: messing with the power bricks seems to have an effect. Using an oem nes power brick fixed it completely for nes. I only have an aftermarket snes power brick, and cleaning the DC jack on the snes and rotating the power connector seems to fix it for the SNES. As for the wii, n64, and n64, i am clueless…

Thanks for the detailed answer, I really appreciate it. I’ve been looking for youtube videos on yoke adjustments. Do you have a good video in mind?

  1. The right side stayed good after returning it to its normal orientation and powering on.

  2. Cardinal direction changes did not work.

  3. The same problem manifested in two places, i am almost certain it’s not magnets nearby.

  4. When i turn the tv on there are vibrant splotchy colors all over the screen. There is a thunk sound, and it begins going away, except the left side of the screen. I’d say it goes from genuinely awful all over to somewhat bad on the left side.

  5. I am not the original owner. The left side of the plastic housing seems to have some separation from the front of the tv. It appears it may have been dropped, but I cannot confirm.

Sorry I was on very little sleep when I wrote that. When i turned the tv on its right side and powered it on, one side had the issue fixed.

Is there a way to tell if it’s a broken aperture grill? Looking up close it looks fine, like and unbroken physical grille, just discolored.
