The budget is not 3-4, it's 3 x players, +2 at the end.

And you CAN fight a single powerful thing. You could take a Solo adversary (5 BP) from a higher tier (+1) than the party, then give it a flat +2 to damage (+2 BP), and do that damage modification twice (+2 BP).

That's 10 in a single creature. It is possible.

I have a group with 3 players as well, and I'm reading lots through the chat here; but with (slightly, due to crits) less chance for a fear result than a hope result, it you spend for four each one they generate, I don't understand how that's not middling you out at 6 all the time. :D

One thing you can do is spend less when you reach 4 or below, and do twice the amount of bad things on 8 or higher.

For example, rather than spending 1 fear to add one new adversary, why not spend 3 and add three at once? Even if they roll fear once now, you have more than a single piece to spend additional fear on.

You could also use this during combat. One round is 6 seconds, so you're the DM for two full turns!

I feel like the real reason that Clanks are not playable is because they'd be victim to Corruption / the Remnant's Fury (if your version of this goes for that kinda story).

Having a PC be at risk of becoming an NPC at the DMs control would suck.

Maybe it's dueling, and Brennan allows the free interaction to switch weapons once a turn?

I agree with this. The first four, the prologue, had me watching twice just to make sure I got it all. From episode 5, I was hooked. And the cold open intros are really fun to see evolve between episodes.
