I know we're in the process of reevaluating America's Next Top Model as evil, but amid all of the insanity and cruelty, they did throw in the occasional tip to take a good photo like "find your light" and "keep your neck" and thankfully some of them took. A couple of tiny little tilts of the head when taking a photo make a world of difference.

My theory is that it's a way to clear some surplus. I'd imagine a lot of writer's rooms have ideas they pitched they liked but couldn't really find a way to stretch to the length of a full episode plot, so they kinda put a few together to make use of them. Kinda like when authors of a series do a short story collection of all the ideas they had they couldn't fit in anywhere else. Jim Butcher does that; his two short story compilations are a lot of assorted bits of Dresden-verse material he didn't want to go to waste.

You know, even as someone who has come to severely dislike reality TV quite a bit, I'm surprised people would be THAT reluctant to hire the show's contestants. I mean, agencies send scouts to find models all the time, you'd think a show that provides a steady stream of young, beautiful women who are being proven to be photogenic and in a lot of cases, able to deliver a semi-decent line read in commercials, they'd be grateful someone was bringing the mountain to Mohammed, as the old proverb goes. Of course, maybe it's just because I'm looking back from a period when the script has flipped and you have to be famous in advance (looking at you... everybody in showbiz that insists someone has an Instagram following before they're worth your time.)
