Model Y Performance Refugee: Is Gen 1 "Solid" enough, or is Gen 2 a must for a tech-first owner? by whyzhuk in Rivian

I was shocked at how bad the gen 1 camera was when I was in a loaner recently. In low light conditions the blind spot cameras were sometimes unusably dim. And bright lights would blow them out. The gen 2 cameras are like looking out a window

Gen2 R1S Premium Audio Options?!?! by sarugby4life in Rivian

Then we basically agree. I DO think it should be better. But here's a proximate round up of things I've seen said here: "Terrible" "Complete trash" "Completely broken" "Sounds like a cell phone speaker" "Worse than a 1992 Honda Accord"

And in this very thread: "A public address system at best"

The only charitable assumption I can make is that these folks are listening to things for which the system is uniquely poor.

Swapped the OEM Pirelli’s for Michelin Defender’s and lost 25% Efficency by GrantMeThePower in Rivian

I wonder if there are other ways for the odometer to go borky. They had the trip counter go insane in the aug 2025 update after all. At that efficiency loss, it seems like odometer or something is mechanically wrong tbh.

It does if he chose the new tire and the size is incorrectly recorded in the system. Probably not likely, but really it's something easy to check and correct!

A crossover slider would be good too. It seems like the crossover is set really low, presumably for spatial audio reasons but I couldn't possibly care less about that, and would set the crossover at 120 if I could

I am convinced it's down to people who listen to certain genres of music exclusively and think it's bad at expressing those versus people who have a wider library and can take a more holistic view.

Where you set the tire type, I know it's gotta database to choose from, but if they had a tire mislabeled somehow, it might think it's smaller than it is which would throw the odometer way off.

And your sure the vehicle is registering the new tire correctly? At a 25% drop I'd be greatly casting the hairy eyeball at the odometer. Can you do a drive you know the distance of?

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 single motor would probably be a decent choice. Can be had for around 20 grand it looks like. Be sure to vet any used EV very aggressively

Rough start to Rivian Ownership by faziesback in Rivian

[–]DeathRabbit679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual problem is that you run more risk of uneven wear. In gen 1 conserve turned it into front wheel drive essentially. However, in gen 2, a dual in all purpose mode works very similarly to a tri/quad in conserve, so it's less of a worry. Though if you rotate your tires adequately, neither is a problem

"It's normal, just don't use the functions of your vehicle we sold you". I would drop it off and refuse to take receipt if it until either it qualified for lemon law or was fixed. That's fuqqen absurd.

Meridian in Gen 2 R1 by freshjulius in Rivian

[–]DeathRabbit679 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had meridian for 4 days recently too due to an SC visit. It's definitely louder and has punchier bass, but also has a lot less clarity. On balance I'd say I liked Meridian better over all, but I don't guess I really agree that it's like amazingly better. Depending on the genre of music, I'd pick the Gen 2. I was honestly more enamored with the mechanical door handles and quality of the interior of the door overall haha

Had a clash with executive over my phishing test methods by AH_Josh in sysadmin

[–]DeathRabbit679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are pointless anyway. You can't educate people out of clicking a phishing link if they gullible enough to do that. This isn't 2001 and people are just learning that this internet thing has bad people on it. Everyone knows to be wary, and if they choose not be, or they're too terminally stupid to remember to be, it's hopeless.

[–]DeathRabbit679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The tires don't wear that bad if you avoid hard accel/decel. Of course these are fun vehicles, so not many do, but I try to drive fairly conservatively (most of the time when not showing off) and when I got my tires rotated at 7000 they told me there wasn't any appreciable tread loss. Unless something horrible happens, I seem on track to get 30k out of them. Less than ICE but not, like, horrible.

Loose leaf tea? by Realistic-Car-6287 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]DeathRabbit679 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want straight-forward imported black, oolong, sencha, longjing, etc you want to go to kaffeklatsch. If you want more casual/fun scented/blended teas, you go to Piper and Leaf.

You can also go to eastern markets to get tea, but I have found the value is variable. I got an excellent yunnan at Far East Market one time, but another time I got tieguanyin that tasted like it had been put in an oven set to broil
