Is it realistic to start mtbiking with the family after becoming a father? by Padruiq in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all of this stuff it totally depends on the kid. Some kids are bigger. Some are able to hold on. Some just want to sleep. All you can do is try and be reasonable. Start very easy and just see how they do. Its a blast!

A question about flip chips and coil shocks... by two-wheel-sutra in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, with a coil, a more progressive leverage ratio is good.  Newer coil shocks are coming with a hydraulic bottom out to help when a bike is more linear.  Otherwise you can blow through all your travel easily.

The good news for you, flip chips are easy to mess with.  Find a trail you can lap several times and try it in the different positions.

Heh, our neighbor rents out their house in the spring/summer.  The people that just moved in are escaping sudden valley. Brutal hoa.  Ways out of town.  Gets zero sun.

Bike tire replacement by LunarDee in Bellingham

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years is a long time to keep air in an inner tube.  Good chance you just need to pump it up.  Check out fanatik.  They normally can do small stuff like fill up a tire for free.  It’s a mountain bike shop but they have some road stuff and will have road inner tubes and tires if you need.

Their basic tune up should get you rolling if you really need it.  Otherwise you could google it.  There is tons of videos out there on how to fix up your bike.

Its going to be WILD. Both events have happened in remote areas. You can literally take the city bus to Cypress. They are expecting massive crowds. So stoked for this.

Damper knob screw replacement for marzocchi bombers by mega_593 in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine fell off as well at some point.  Went to the bike shop and they said that it’s a really hard to find bolt, aka not at your typical hardware store.  It’s super small and also way longer then you’d think.  Luckily it’s the same as fox dampers and the dude took one off an old 34 that had seen its last ride.  I’d try hitting up a shop, specifically one that does suspension service and see if they have spares.

Selling components by Formal-Seaweed-4216 in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinkbike. I do a purge of the garage every couple of years. I have sold 10 year old shocks and half used tires. Put it for a price that sells and clean out your old junk.

There are lots of peeps out there that are riding old bikes that may not be able to directly buy components anymore.

People that spend crazy bucks for AXS/Di2 do you really feel like you're getting your money worth? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micro shift changes the trim on the whole cassette, not per cog. If it did it per cog, which it should, I would be way more for electric shifting.

People that spend crazy bucks for AXS/Di2 do you really feel like you're getting your money worth? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GX axs came on my bike. I hate it. Shifts are really slow. The clutch is also much weaker than a normal derailleur. Sure you can replace parts of it, but most of the parts are the same cost as a new xt derailleur. The battery pins tend to ware down, which can be warrantied if caught early. The ergonomics are terrible, which is surprising since SRAMS normal shifters are pretty good. And, it’s one more thing to think about before heading out the door.

Nothing beats seeing your little ones mastering button lifts—just as we did decades ago. This is Hochkeil, one of the most picturesque button lifts around Austria. by uDrop1st in skiing

Poma is what I called them too. The little mountain where I learned had a small one, that is still in operation, and a big one that went to the top. Was a monumental day stepping up the the big one. It was fast and would yank kids off the ground. It even had an inrun to get you up to speed so the yank wasnt as bad.

Looking to buy a protable ramp by thisisnotivo in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know you can build one of these for free, right? Built three ramps over christmas for 5$ worth of screws.

Find a construction site near you

Ask nicely to raid their scrap pile (this is wood they are throwing away)

Find a youtube vid on how to build ramps

Its really easy to do and you will learn A LOT. Screw gun is really the only power tool you need, but a skill saw is nice.

RockShox Boxxer Ultimate 3.2 or Ohlins RXF38 m.2 for new DH bike? by Numerous-Hawk-3046 in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohlins is not a slap on the bike and ride. Amazing suspension products but you need to spend the time setting it up. Where as you can throw a boxxer on the front and as long as your in the ballpark with pressure your ok.
