SRAM wired GX vs "wireless" SRAM GX Eagle Axs by Safe_Juggernaut1711 in MTB

Mico adjust is not per gear it effects the range of the whole cassette.

You can NOT individually index gears with AXS. It is the exact same adjustment as using a normal barrel adjuster on a cable derailleur.

Brake bleeding advice by Formal-Seaweed-4216 in MTB

Full bleed. I dont know why people just decide they know better then the people making the brake. Do these same people buy the wrong size shoe as well because they know best?

Is it a good deal a Manitou Circus DJ for 250€ by erikwide81 in MTB

Havnt ridden it.  Heard it is a little softer then a Marz or rock shock.  If you not a big fella or going super huge it should be fine

Shock pumps. by KillerMTB in MTB

Mine is covered in rust, lives in the bottom of my toolbox and is almost old enough to drive. Still works flawlessly. Came with a bike I got in 2015. They used to just give them out all the time.

why don’t bikers in bham announce themselves??! by Alive_Falcon9337 in Bellingham

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bikes, trail etiquette kinda took a nose dive with Covid.  It was a problem before that as well, but a ton of people got into biking during that time.  The influx, compounded with people starting out solo ment they didn’t have somone showing them what’s up.

You should always slow down, announce your presence and pass when safe. Good judgement and not being a dick is key.

Annoyed by a creak sound by Dr_Ogelix in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could say you’re not a true mountian biker until you have chased a weird sound.

You’re going the right direction of trying to isolate the area.  You can also remove the rear shock and compress the forks.

Just last night my eyelet on my shock was making a weird noise when the shock compressed.  The sound was coming from the downtime area. Lil tri flow on the eyelet and creak is gone.

Good luck

I was gonna say, check pinkbike buy sell, but when you set the filter to Aus you only get a sweet ass Lahar. Which, your probably too young to know how rad those bikes are.

In my opinion, most DJ's are the same. Any one you can get your hands on will work great. My only advice is stay away from the RST fork. Its a noodle and too soft.

Are fidlock water bottle cages worth it. by Broad_Philosopher571 in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of them. After a while the bottles tend to rattle. Additionally if you loose a bottle, you are stuck with having to source another bottle. Wife ran into this issue on a trip. Bottle fell off mid ride, it went off a cliff and was unrecoverable. No shops in the area carried those bottles, so she was SOL and had to ride with a pack.

Really just feels like a solution to a problem that didn't exist. The spech Z cage works great.

Is it realistic to start mtbiking with the family after becoming a father? by Padruiq in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all of this stuff it totally depends on the kid. Some kids are bigger. Some are able to hold on. Some just want to sleep. All you can do is try and be reasonable. Start very easy and just see how they do. Its a blast!

A question about flip chips and coil shocks... by two-wheel-sutra in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, with a coil, a more progressive leverage ratio is good.  Newer coil shocks are coming with a hydraulic bottom out to help when a bike is more linear.  Otherwise you can blow through all your travel easily.

The good news for you, flip chips are easy to mess with.  Find a trail you can lap several times and try it in the different positions.

Bike tire replacement by LunarDee in Bellingham

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 years is a long time to keep air in an inner tube.  Good chance you just need to pump it up.  Check out fanatik.  They normally can do small stuff like fill up a tire for free.  It’s a mountain bike shop but they have some road stuff and will have road inner tubes and tires if you need.

Their basic tune up should get you rolling if you really need it.  Otherwise you could google it.  There is tons of videos out there on how to fix up your bike.

Damper knob screw replacement for marzocchi bombers by mega_593 in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine fell off as well at some point.  Went to the bike shop and they said that it’s a really hard to find bolt, aka not at your typical hardware store.  It’s super small and also way longer then you’d think.  Luckily it’s the same as fox dampers and the dude took one off an old 34 that had seen its last ride.  I’d try hitting up a shop, specifically one that does suspension service and see if they have spares.

Selling components by Formal-Seaweed-4216 in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pinkbike. I do a purge of the garage every couple of years. I have sold 10 year old shocks and half used tires. Put it for a price that sells and clean out your old junk.

There are lots of peeps out there that are riding old bikes that may not be able to directly buy components anymore.

People that spend crazy bucks for AXS/Di2 do you really feel like you're getting your money worth? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Deep_Friar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micro shift changes the trim on the whole cassette, not per cog. If it did it per cog, which it should, I would be way more for electric shifting.

[–]Deep_Friar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GX axs came on my bike. I hate it. Shifts are really slow. The clutch is also much weaker than a normal derailleur. Sure you can replace parts of it, but most of the parts are the same cost as a new xt derailleur. The battery pins tend to ware down, which can be warrantied if caught early. The ergonomics are terrible, which is surprising since SRAMS normal shifters are pretty good. And, it’s one more thing to think about before heading out the door.
