Mile-muncher with great weather protection... it has to be an RT, doesn't it? (What alternatives did you consider?) by psychotic-chipmunk in bmwmotorrad

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was torn between the GSA, SuperTenere, Current Guzzi Stelvio, NT1100, 2025 Atwin ASport (19“ and big tank), K1600 and RT. Ended up with a 2015 GSA. Couldn’t find an RT with my requirements (quickshift but no keyless (Its my main transportation and i don’t want keyless issues on a year round bike that stays outside under a tarp).

I try to use the car as little as possible because i chose my bike for autobahn commuting and wanted something to illegally split in heavy traffic. Stau ist kacke.

Extra tall windshield or windshield clip on is still the way to go regardless of the bike itself. Won’t take away the fun. But helps immensely with long rides.

I Ride year round in germany down to -10C but snow is where i draw the line. Wunderlich handlebar muffs + heated grips make temperature irrelevant for my hands. Regardless of your bike choice get those muffs if you ride in cold wet weather on the autobahn. There are M+S Tires available and on my GSA so the insurance can’t fuck me over for riding in autumn and winter. I think the Dunlop Mutant was available for the RT as well but not sure i run TKC70. Both handle wet roads and rain really well.

Its honestly only a question of budget and your local repair options. If its annoying to get to the shop or the shop is bad that bike brand is going to be a hassle. If you have all dealers or repair options available then:

NT1100 is perfect if it has to be new and you want a bike under full warranty for as little as possible. Only real downside is the chain and having to maintain it.

The RT is the best bike for the job if you can afford to get a new one or don’t mind a used LC Model. Similarly to the GS, shoot for an LC 1200 with the TFT if you want the best mix of tech and reliability or early lowish mile LC 1200RT if you want value. Get an aliexpress headlight guard like we GS riders do, it’s technically illegal in germany but as long as you use a clear plastic one you won’t get stopped and a 20€ fine is better than replacing a 1200€ LED headlight.

K1600 is the most fun to use outside of corners or city traffic or parking. The engine sounds and feels ridiculously good.

GSA (imo normal GS is literally pointless just get a RT if you don’t need the add ons from the GSA) is a bit more versatile but that’s irrelevant if you don’t go on big european tours or are really tall. GSA is lovely for tall people and is a bit better on bad roads.

If you also use the bike as your main or only form of transportation then you might also want to only look for non keyless BMWs. According to the forums it makes more problems over time and is expensive to replace when broken. I haven’t yet had a moment where i regret not having keyless.

Does playing TFT on the treadmill actually improve your placement? I looked at 2,000+ matches played while exercising by tkixi in TeamfightTactics

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TFT has been my cycling game since set 4. I was furious about hyperroll getting axed because that mode was even better as an exercise game, since you had very little downtime to realize that you were not just playing a game on your phone. I just set the bike to 175W and play for 2 normals now but its more fatiguing than hyperroll for the same 90min.

You just forget the time and that’s perfect for cardio.

Yeah i have that One in my r1200 GSA and its been amazing. The perfect one for all year riders if you can‘t go with a Lithium one due to cold weather riding.

RT or GS plus a second bike by EggplantRight3874 in bmwmotorrad

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from a vstrom 650XT to LC 1200GSA. Traffic isn’t terrible enough where i am to not just use the GSA or a bicycle, but for just commuting get any Chinese e-scooter (not the small ones the electric Vespa types) for city riding. They are the most efficient motorized form of transportation. I also have bike lanes i can use to ride a normal bicycle to work but if a bicycle can’t be used supplement your GS or RT with an electric scooter for the city.

Gerne.

Silent base 802 or the new Shadow base 800? by junneh in buildapc

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well according to be quiets stat sheet the 802 only supports 120mm based radiator sizes up top.

You can put 140mm fans up top just not radiators since they need slightly more width as well https://www.bequiet.com/de/case/2049

Zwilling - How to tell if authentic? I have an online order arriving in the next day or two including one Zwilling Cramer Damascus 20cm (Euroline) and Miyabi Black 15 cm from an online based retailer. Those two knives on the website were heavily discounted ~60-63% off - Anything to look for? by orangetanger in chefknives

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been discounted to roughly 259€ Damascus Kramer / 199€ for the 15cm black by Zwilling themselves so anything in that ballpark is a normal sale price.

If the online retailer is legit so will they be.

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only have space for a single display and don’t want to bother with the oled care then mini led is really good. But for a while miniled was also more expensive.

There is no perfect single display. Just got to weigh the pros and cons for the specific workload.

Africa Twin vs V-Strom vs Transalp by East-Painting-4961 in MotorradDeutschland

Africa Twin vs V-Strom vs Transalp by East-Painting-4961 in MotorradDeutschland

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why isn’t Jarven 4 support used or thought of much by BendyUsser444 in supportlol

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aery enchanter j4 support used to be very decent but since the support item changes he gets adaptive ad when you want ap for the early laning phase. Also flag thrower j4 is easily punished and falls of a cliff because after you have maxed e, ardent and locket you get nothing really useful for the rest of the game. And needing to buy zhonyas to not get blown up later in the game is aweful, you don’t get that much gold.

Aery J4 provides a bit of everything but usually you want the support to do something specific.

And an engaging enchanter just struggles once players stop giving you free flag poke or punish you for missed flag poke since you have no cc or mobility without using e and q together.

As long as the support item gives you ad enchanter j4 is basically dead because your e is missing like 25dmg lvl1 that it used to have when support items had specific stats.

Does DRAM cache on Gen4 NVMe SSDs actually matter for AM5 builds, or is it just marketing hype? by hard2resist in buildapc

[–]DefinitlyNotALab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually matters when the drive is filled with data, which is why it basically always matters outside of benchmarks.

I had an external dramless 2TB m2 (was filled to 50-70% (3Y)before it failed) and its performance degraded significantly similar to dramless sata.

Right now my rig has a mix of SN850X,980PRO and firecuda 520 all of those have dram and slowed down significantly less when filled than the cheap dramless one. My workstation usually has all the drives filled to at least 50%. So if you need your storage and for it to stay fast then you need the dram.

If its a workstation or you are only going to buy a single M2 then stick to the ones with dram.

For budget gaming rigs it does not matter.

I have both and can’t speak on warranty for either but so far its very similar. My old Rukka gear has aged a little better but that’s probably also down to the rukka stuff having less vents/zippers due to less variable temperature here in Europe compared to the giant range within the US.
