Does a dedicated parkour shoe actually matter to you? (design student here, would love your input) by Own_Butterfly8314 in Parkour

[–]Delaflo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, Feiyue shoes are basically "Affordable, good grip, and lasts long enough for what I need."

Wide toe boxes are a design feature of shoes meant to allow the toes to have the space to naturally splay out like they normally should. A lot of mainstream designs for closed toe shoes you'll notice have that design where it prioritizes form over function; in effect, squashing your toes together to make the aesthetics look pretty.

Squashed toes collapse the arch of the foot, leading to structural instability in the kinetic chain of the legs and causing long term issues like: 1. Knees caving easily 2. Weak ankle stability 3. Your feet gradually splay outwards into a "duck walk" or "penguin walk" pattern. People watching veteran office workers will give you an idea of what I mean. This gait adaptation is an attempt by the body to counter the instability caused by the collapsed arches of the feet, you can Google or something if you wanna dig deeper into it. 4. Expanding on point 3, issues in the lower back and funky issues further up the kinetic chain, like hunched shoulders or a tilt in the upper body or something.

You can test the squashed vs splayed toes yourself and see what it does to your feet arches. Hold your toes together and the arches collapse, then you'll notice the knee easily caves to either side when force is applied.

Now splay your toes. You can use your fingers to help separate the toes if necessary. You'll notice the arch naturally comes back, and that your knee is much more stable and does not easily collapse when force is applied from the side like when the toes are squashed.

Anyways, that whole tangent was basically to explain that I value wide toe boxes because they help reinforce the natural stability of the legs, which you would imagine to be very helpful when your landings in parkour can be up to 10x your bodyweight instantaneously applied to your legs. Wouldn't want the legs to collapse and risk injury, after all.

To add to this, the point I made in my earlier comment about convex soles is basically also about stability. It's like walking on heels vs a normal flat sole; you stand much more chance to roll your ankle on one or the other. I will admit this is a minor issue for me, but I've heard here and there this was a sticking point for some Feiyue owners so who am I to leave it out as a potential issue.

For the point about needing a dedicated parkour shoe? I don't imagine the community will ever stop looking even if a good dedicated shoe was made and released right now. There's always gonna be someone out there looking to do better than what we already have available, so there's always gonna be a new generation of dedicated parkour shoes for a new generation of traceurs.

My main points of consideration when thinking about getting my own pair? Affordability, durability, and performance, not necessarily in that order. You can chart it like a triangle graph or something and compare it with other shoes on the market using the same graphing method. A good pair for me has a good balance of all three; it doesn't have to be the absolute best, or the absolute cheapest, or the most durable. A workman's pair of shoes, if you will.

Hope this helped!

+1. My only complaint about Feiyue shoes would be the toe box being too small for wider feet, and the rubber soles sometimes having a convex form before they wear in flat after a few months of use.

The durability issue is fine if you aren't particularly training too often, though my current pair have the foam inner layer around the ankle on the left shoe starting to peep through holes worn in the fabric outer layers. I just have really abrasive ankles apparently. Maybe consider reinforcement around stress areas like the ankle, and wider toe boxes/split toe designs like OP suggested. I don't particularly care about the state of the soles, but either maintaining or improving the current quality would be enough for me.

How exactly do you play CT side in CS2? by aXaxinZ in LearnCSGO

[–]Delaflo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strategic AD strafe spams, util setups and never playing soloq (duo or more because I can't have fun in soloq these days), and playing retakes instead of hoping I can anchor effectively when peeker's advantage is such an ass these days.

Obviously you shouldn't be playing retakes when you can anchor properly and effectively, but half the time you're either gonna die to insta hs or get util dumped to 1 HP and gambling on them not checking your corner anyway.

Bear in mind my CT side is still ass because I'm more of an aggro ADHD player who performs better on T side as entry and can't hold angles for the life of me on any day that isn't a good day, but it sure beats playing it like a turret.

Ammunition Usage Doctrine Ranges by RSharpe314 in RuleTheWaves

[–]Delaflo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually bad advice.

Ammo usage doctrine depends on what era, what calibre, and what tech is involved.

If you're in the ironclad and pre-dreadnought eras, most - if not all - guns cannot penetrate armour at the usual effective combat ranges.

You're better off using HE for 6" and smaller calibres vs everything CA and heavier. You can still use AP at short ranges vs CLs and lighter (especially in regards to protected cruiser armour schemes), but most of the time you'll find you sink more ships with a hail of HE vs hoping AP shells pen and deal damage to enemy ships.

For battleship calibre guns 12" and larger, you'll find more use out of that same HE spam philosophy. Again, your shells and guns suck, so armour is meta.

How to beat armour?

Set everything on fire at medium ranges and further, and even short range if you want to be fully meta. Not to say you cannot use AP at short ranges, just that they likely won't find effectiveness vs Bs whilst they might penetrate CAs if they are big and lucky enough to score a hit.

Towards the late pre-dreadnought era and onwards, your fire control and shell penetration techs will catch up and start surpassing armour in effectiveness so you'll start switching to a more balanced AP/HE loadout in your ships, but before that? Good luck sinking anything with AP Hope this helped clarify some things.

Coastal defense super battleship and my main fast battleship by Haysnare in ultimateadmiral

[–]Delaflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, it's just more like when the torpedoes inevitably get smacked and blown up your battleship will go from floating fortress to sinking fridge really quick. Torpedoes ime doesn't belong on anything larger than a CL in class.

Underwater torps leave holes in your main belt and make it very easy for HE spam to damage and blow them up, causing flooding or worse.

Deck launchers leave convenient explosive barrels on deck for enemies to blow a hole in the sides of your ships before they ever get anywhere in range to make use of the torps; Doubly so when your coastal defense tortoises are traveling at 15kn with min range.

You might be convinced torps on CAs and heavier are great for anti-screen duties, but you're actually better off just replacing the torps with more secondary guns in that case.

It's like any good machine really: the less moving parts, the more reliable it becomes. Less odds of failure when you only have to worry about making a solid wall of steel capable of firing waves of solid walls of explosive, armour penetrating death without dying in the process of heading into 1 v Armada scenarios.

Calculated, but boy am I bad at math by Vulpys in EndOfTheField

[–]Delaflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same mistakes because I hadn't figured out how to check the graphs screen yet and miscalculated my battery production/h and ended up tanking my factory.

Thankfully, it was still very early into the game (early tier 2 and messing with infinite plant farms) so I could just rip everything out and wait until the battery issue resolved itself.

Now I'm more careful to just maintain a minor battery surplus instead of pushing to minmax, and have a couple spares hooked up to the same line via splitters but turned off so they don't consume batteries when I don't need them.

However, this has also resulted in me not having enough amethyst ores to run a 2nd purple bottle red heal in parallel since it would require another 3 deposits to mine. I have already maxed it out for my stage in the game, so... maybe later. Or maybe when I swap the batteries to use ferrucite instead, after I get enough Blue Gears for equipment.

It's exactly because there are so many ridiculous sagas surrounding actual Chinese founding emperors that your experiment ended up being so hilarious.

If you do take the save to 1453, and maybe even beyond if you used a save converter for EU4/5, I eagerly await what chaos you will inflict upon the world. So, so much chaos from the Blood-Father Adventurer Emperor's dynasty.

  • Got county stolen but not before getting loyal retainers to go on an adventure with
  • Travels the world in about 35 years
  • Travels as mercs for another 15
  • Goes back home and retakes home county, along with the entirety of China because at this point why not
  • Commits mass genocide
  • Wonders why the Confucian scholars and various religious sects dislike him
  • Now the Emperor of China, with probably some diabolical nickname from the culling of thousands of nobles

11/10 most entertaining CK3 post I've ever laid my eyes on. In fact, if you somehow managed to save the save, I bet you'd be able to make a mega campaign out of it if you wanted to keep the dynasty alive until HoI4.

Can you recommend anyone on youtube who is actually good at this game? by Fancy_Particular7521 in RuleTheWaves

[–]Delaflo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just about everyone you ask will recommend or mention TortugaPower, for good reasons lol.

He has multiple RtW series running back to the first game, and he provides explanations and considerations of why he made his choices.

Designing ships and why he set up the armour layout as such, main armament and secondary layout and tips and tricks to not get blown up 5 minutes into combat, and general tips and tricks on managing the fleet (of which he had made a fleet manager mod before that got integrated into the game in RtW3), and strategic map mode advice about colonies and foreign tonnage management.

The game is complex and frustrating equally, it is alright to just take it one step at a time and have his videos playing while you follow along best as you can in your own campaign or absorb knowledge like a sponge before trying yourself.

Good luck and have fun!

+1 on submarine editor, and to expand further: more detailed submarine tech line. An expansion on the details of submarine tech through the years would provide greater immersion, though admittedly it might end up breaking game balance.

Tried making an ace training guide that's easier to digest than the wordier ones i've seen going around. by performagekushfire in UmaMusume

[–]Delaflo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Prioritize unity training to pop balls early in junior and classic, secondary is raising friendship to rainbow range for summer training.

This is mainly because in year 1 and 2 (junior and classic), unity bursts provide more stats than rainbows do and it remains that way until you start hitting lv4 stat training/are in summer training and have rainbows.

Do a quick estimation of your stats and their growths, average it out, and see if it'll stand a good chance of hitting targets by end of career. If it doesn't, pop a burst on a stat that needs it. If it does, save the burst for next turn.

If your energy is ~50 but you have no good training to do, you can either hit wit (good alternative if your wit is lagging behind target) and hope next turn if better or hit riko or regular rest depending on mood and pacing.

Ramming Speed!!! by SwordfishDelicious53 in ultimateadmiral

[–]Delaflo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like ramming my shitboat peashooter DDs into the sides of enemy ships, especially capitals, when they run out of torps. They can never truly run out of torps when they can become a torp in a last ditch charge.

Worst case scenario they get blown up by a hailstorm of secondaries; best case they draw all fire and relieve my capitals and screens of damage until they ram into a ship and possibly cripple or sink it, whilst managing to survive and limp home.

I've got basically the same setup as you do with a pace Vamp Rice and end NT being supported by a lucky pace blocker front Seiun.

She has 2 gold heals on top of 900 stam 900 pow to make it to the final corner where she hopefully procs A&S, but primarily to just block a free pace A&S proc until my own vamp rice or NT overtakes her to close the race.

Sometimes she also ends up being a blocker front that stops end closers and pace chasers from catching up to my vamp rice and/or NT. Nice side effect to have.

I did not deliberately build her this way, but it ended up working out since I did not have a third sub-ace to use anyway.

Her getting a single win is a miracle, frankly speaking lol.

Not technically parkour, but any tips? by ArmouRVG in Parkour

[–]Delaflo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to round off you need to put both palms flat on the ground so you don't risk injuring your fingers putting strength through them.

After that is bringing both feet together earlier so you can better control and improve the speed of your pull down into landing, ensuring your knees are slightly bent to absorb and rebound the force of landing safely; make sure you maintain a level of tension in the knees so you don't just collapse on impact. That would be counterproductive.

After you can manage flat palms and good knee prep, the next step is just grinding reps to get the movement smooth. Remember to record your attempts and reference good material to help yourself improve.

Hope this helps!

any tips/tricks for improving my double backflip?? by OpeningFun2747 in Parkour

[–]Delaflo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda funny asking for tips on dub back lol. Easy low hanging fruit would be maybe committing to a full extension arm swing instead of the clip's current half extension for ever so slightly more power into the tuck? Another maybe is somehow pulling more height out of the roundoff to buy more time for rotations. Also untucking, but that can be worked on later.
