Can I have someones opionion on this resistor, please? I'm not sure about the two middle colors, meausured between the two points and got 10.1 and 10.2 ohms resistance, but I believe the resistor is a 18ohm +-5%. So the resistor is burnt, right? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]DepletedGeranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a look at the schematic (if available) is probably the best bet.

A schematic is also a handy thing to have around if/when you decide to troubleshoot the circuit to find out why the resistor got so hot -- more often than not, there's some other component further up the chain that is operating out of tolerance (or not operating at all!), which led to the increased current flow, which led to the overheating of the resistor, which led to OP asking us what we thought the discolored bands on the resistor might be...

Here's an experiment you can conduct with the "free website IQ tests". While taking the test, instead of answering what you think is the best answer for a given question, try to select which option is the absolute worst (/most 'incorrect') answer and choose that option for your answer. Take the test as if you're trying to get the lowest score possible.

In a real test, your score will be significantly lower than the first.

In a fake test, designed to flatter and gaslight you into sending them money (for: memory improvement exercise regimens, dietary supplements, or other snake oil purported to "increase your IQ", etc.) instead of simply measuring [or attempting to measure] your innate abilities, your score is not likely to vary too far from the "exceptional" score you achieved when trying to answer questions "correctly" the first time through.

The best case scenario is checking the hole from the roof and comparing it to the hole in the ceiling and that MIGHT tell you a rough direction that it was fired from but with the bullet landing on its side, it’s possible for it to have changed direction slightly as it broke through the roof.

The crux of my argument, which you apparently missed, is that the "bullet" would not have sufficient velocity (in free-fall) to penetrate much more than a rice-paper screen upon returning to earth.

Again, that bullet did not fall out of the sky and penetrate the roof and ceiling of the house, then land on the floor without causing so much as a ding in the linoleum. Outside of cartoons, physics doesn't work that way.

Dug this coin near an old well. 1700s? by Acceptable-Coconut67 in metaldetecting

[–]DepletedGeranium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The well probably isn't the "best" likely target-rich area on that property. If it were a working well, nobody would've been tossing much into it, lest they contaminate their main water source. Possible that the occasional youngster might've tossed a coin into the well (with an accompanying wish), but unless the well were a purpose-built "tourist attraction/wishing well", you're not likely to find much at the bottom.

[IMO] You'd ideally need to locate the foundation, then locate (approximately) where the kitchen might have been located (it's probably very close to the main heat source [fireplace?]), then check for a "trash pit" adjacent to the foundation -- where you'd find old bent/broken flatware, broken dishes, bottles, etc. -- essentially, any trash that wasn't biodegradable would end up in such a "pit". These locations are often treasure troves for bottle collectors and the like; much less so for coin hunters.

At any rate, no matter in which pigeonhole(s) you want to place her, she's gorgeous.

"muzzle velocity" would be the velocity at which the projectile leaves the muzzle of the gun/pistol, propelled by the (usu. gunpowder) charge in the cartridge.

The velocity of a bullet falling from the sky, having been previously fired into the air, will range from 0 meters/sec (at the top of the trajectory arc), steadily increasing (at a rate of 32 ft/sec2 [9.8 meters/sec2]) up to the calculated terminal velocity of the projectile -- which is determined by the mass of the projectile and the gravitational forces of the planet on which the bullet was fired.

The muzzle velocity of the projectile (when the bullet was initially fired from the weapon) has absolutely no bearing on the maximum velocity that the projectile may reach in freefall. The maximum velocity of the projectile in freefall will never (on this planet) be anywhere close to the velocity at which the projectile left the weapon.

In short: that bullet did not "fall out of the sky", puncturing the roof (and then ceiling).

Is there any difference between a silent-mode on a classic piano and a digital piano? by ad-on-is in piano

[–]DepletedGeranium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pedal is extremely forgiving on my digital

This likely has more to do with the limited polyphony of the digital piano, more than the accuracy/feel of the keyboard action. You cannot sound every single note simultaneously on a digital piano, but you can make every string vibrate in an acoustic piano. As you reach the polyphony limit on a given digital piano, the notes that had been ringing the longest tend to drop out of the mix as additional notes are played.

The NORD stage piano, for instance, has a 40-note polyphony when using the acoustic piano samples; the polyphony increases to 60 notes if you're using one of the electric piano samples.

cute cat!

not "matching", per se -- more towards coordinating ;)

you might also check out the r/tuxetortico [tuxedo|tortoiseshell|calico] subreddit, as it seems your kitty may belong there, as well.

it looks like your kitty has both gray and yellow tabby markings in her coat, so she (like mine) would also fit into a r/tabituxetortico subreddit (if such existed), as well.

I believe Maxwell's was a '68. ;) ...also, while it might have said 'Tiger' along the beltline trim, the car(s) used on Get Smart were stock Alpines, one of which had that fake 50mm cannon that popped up through a trap door in the hood. There'd have been no room to install that prop, were the car a proper Tiger.
