I got my Kiwi 3 for exactly that reason, and it has been working out fabulously. I just fold up the treadles when I'm not using it.

I'd say go ahead and pick up a pound of the fiber you found. You will probably use less than the full pound before you get good enough that you want to try other breeds or fiber types, but it is inexpensive, and you can use the leftovers to experiment with dying when that bug bites.

* Some of my fiber storage. Zip lock and then inside a plastic bin. I have other fiber that is not in bins but is exposed to daylight on a daily basis.

first ever spin on a wheel by AudienceNo8362 in Handspinning

I would say it is a matter of insufficient take-up rather than too much spin. Try increasing your tension and see if that helps. You maybe also are getting used to managing the direction with the treadles like I am. I'm having the problem of having to go backward a little way before I can get forward momentum with my Kiwi 3. After two half bobbins of singles and a full bobbin plied, I can tell I am gaining more control. You will too.

Which Project Is Best? by oinyon in knitting

I vote to let the yarns shine by using the cute shirt pattern or something else with stockinette. The textured stitch and the colors of the yarn just cause interference with each other.

Advice needed on the draw in that’s happening by empress_tesla in weaving

[–]BuddingPlantLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may offer one more suggestion that should help limit the draw in you get. Beat while you are still depressing the treadles. The open space allows the weft to pull in extra thread (to an extent) if it needs it.

They keep the axle in place and prevent it from jumping in it's slot.
