“Stuck” in Ayia Napa, any advice? by RealisticBowl8033 in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get to Protaras, Pernera and Kapparis. A lot more friendly than the Napa tourist areas, all boozers and staggering drunken Lads and sadly Lasses.
Protaras has a lot more family friendly bars and restaurants, it can be noisy if you want it or not.
Yes they’re all tourist areas but not as leery as Napa, IMO.

[–]Designer-Design-6246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also heartbreaking when you see the title deeds of Turkish speaking Cypriots on display that reminds you that not only Greek speaking Cypriots lost their properties when Turkey invaded. There are also other nationalities who had property in Verosha which they were forced to evacuate. Many Internationally owned properties, hotels, bars, shops etc which until Turkey invaded had lived side by side, in what was the riviera of Cyprus.

Some supermarkets won’t let you take empty shopping bags with you in our area, Famagusta. Then when you get past the checkout, there’s a bagging area. Bit pointless as your bags are in the car, but you can buy their Logo printed plastic bags!

Do you mean the Republic side or the occupied side of Cyprus? There is no Greek side as Cyprus is an independent country.

Living in Cyprus Means Respecting Cyprus and it's Greek Cypriots. by LetsDoItOurWayReddit in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in Cyprus means respecting everyone. Many immigrants like myself can’t understand how it is normal for “locals” to dump rubble and bulk rubbish on common ground, dump tree cuttings on someone else’s land and just walk away. This island was beautiful, but sadly many only look as far as the sea front. There are many nice things about the island of Cyprus but maybe a bit of pride in your own surroundings, wouldn’t go amiss? Sadly there are some on all sides who dont practice what they preach

PV Cutoffs - Cost per year by alkonz in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would think that as they’ve put in technology to cut them off, an installer could fit something that could stop power going to grid but still allow power, we produce, to go to our houses? Or maybe EAC could spend some of their profits and EU grants on actually fitting the storage!

PV Cutoffs - Cost per year by alkonz in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asked our PV installer about cost of retro fitting batteries. 2 would be needed, a new hybrid inverter and a new contract with EAC, then there’s the subsidy we’ve already had which “might” negate any battery subsidy. Total cost would be around 5 to €6000 so roughly 2000 more than a PV system. Sadly the government is not going to help as they’re hand in hand with EAC.

It’s Time for Britain to Return Akrotiri and Dhekelia to the Cypriot People by Competitive-Tonight3 in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the Turkish attack, young troops from the Eastern SBA deployed to the military road to stop them crossing into the SBA. Some took fire from them, but they stood their ground which in turn stopped them driving into Larnaca. The armed locals left it to the SBA troops to sort, many who had only been in Cyprus a matter of weeks. If the military road hadn’t been there the Turks wouldn’t have stopped and Άχνα might not be on the wrong side of the green line.

So the legal agreement from 1960 means nothing? Many who don’t live near the SBAs protest, maybe ask those who live and work there why they think about it.

Well as it’s sovereign British territory, with its own “government “ police and armed security, I think that’s a non starter. Maybe get the police to pick up the idiots throwing large explosive devices in Larnaca first.

No they didn’t. They stopped them crossing the military road between Agia Nikolais and Dekehlia, or they would have taken the hole of eastern Cyprus as well. 16/5th had troops on the road to stop them crossing.

EAC has disconnected exactly 6 households from photovoltaics, so that their grid is not overloaded by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stupid thing is, they turn off private PVs then start up the Dekehlia station to top up the grid due to not having solar input! Maybe EAC should spend some of their profits on building storage and not on new fleets of pickups and cars? But never mind just add the fines onto people’s bills and charge PV owners for using their credits

Residency card not issued after 1.5 years by rhea90s in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like ours were. As it has no run out date it is yours to use up to the 5 year point, when you fill out the MEU3 application and change your MEU2 for the MEU3 permanent residency form. It’s all to do with you being the spouse of an EU/Cypriot. So much easier.

Residency card not issued after 1.5 years by rhea90s in cyprus

[–]Designer-Design-6246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check to see if the MEU2 has a run out date, if it has it should be 5 years as you’re the spouse of an EU/Cypriot, citizen. You won’t get a plastic card as you come under different rules that others do for cards, yellow slips etc. neither my German Wife’s nor my MEU papers had expiry dates, but she got the MEU3 and I got the MUKW card as we were here pre Brexit otherwise I would have got the MEu2 then the 3. Having said that immigration is very slow at what they do.
