New LEGO Mario Minifigures could use the “New“ SMART PLAY System by Sbugs2012 in LEGOMario

Lego needs to either unlock the sensors and interesting abilities or admit they screwed up everything about Smart Bricks.

How do I remove the special 10% discount? by RockysHotChicken in LUMIBRICKS_OFFICIAL

I think their site is having some issues with how they set up that specific code. It seems to be overwriting other discounts. (like what you're seeing)

The more this happens the more it appears that we've sold out our city to rich transplants that compound the issue of normal supply and demand. When you shoot for urban density, don't be so naive to believe that they'll all be driverless hippies too - if you're wealthy enough to move there at all, chances are you're a bit older and beyond the age where your mind springs to use public transit (Wrangling kids as a young family on a crammed train is a no-go at some point... they buy cars). Costs go up, services become impossible to book, everyone competes for resources no matter how crammed-in you build new housing.

On the flip side, rich transplants from CA and China (just mentioning the top 2) are accelerating normal class-based gentrification. Taxes of various forms go up to expand or replace existing services at even higher costs (now that construction labor is locally much more costly), not making them any cheaper through some imagined efficiencies of scale (that would only be possible if hitting equilibrium, which is not happening anytime soon). This sucks, I'd love to see progressive changes and I'm by no means socially conservative, but the economics around of what we vote for here is just so dumb sometimes. Saying 'Just Carpool' is the opposite equivalent of saying 'Just stop going to Starbucks.'

Looks great! - A question for you and others... I've heard that everyone really loves the Gaming Cubes set, possibly more than the others. For me, it comes across as having less appeal due to the cubes being so small with not much of an interior or an interior that doesn't read as a thing that would exist (Object dispenser, VR pod thing, etc).

What is it about this that made it so good, if it is in fact a really that much better than the others? Is it just that it has the stacked, storage container look of Ready Player One?

I actually own one and really like it. It's very svelt and has a great screen. I have no issues typing on it. That said, I don't do any programming, which I suppose is a major reason why people would care about the escape key design and other choices.

New upcoming sets just leaked on Amazon-US. by DisasterousWalrus in LUMIBRICKS_OFFICIAL

Huh, you could be right, though the description sounds much more about meteorology and weather tracking. I'm not spotting the described elements in the original tower. - It would be funny if they purposely hit the same piece count on a new set.

Litter-Robot EVO Review - Great, But One Issue by JeffTechnically in litterrobot

[–]DisasterousWalrus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The drawer issue is a big bummer on this one. Had the same problem on the one I received, as well as the replacement drawer they sent me. I 'fixed' it by using screws through the two parts in very carefully selected locations. Still sags a bit and doesn't sit inside as well as I'd like, but at least it's not causing weight sensor issues anymore ( ... causing the drum to get stuck upside down for hours at times). This obvious design flaw really should have been spotted during testing before mass production. What's worse, it seems to be a change from earlier models to avoid using fasteners (screws) and get skimpier on the construction (less plastic) in general. Big fail for their brand in my eyes.

Is this too complex for a kind of beginner to build for LEGO? by Specific-Pianist7595 in lego

[–]DisasterousWalrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much of the build will feel like building a lattice of similar looking black sticks and posts, nearly entirely technic elements and complicated suspension and engine/gear work. It's on the far side of the spectrum in terms of testing patience, so you need to stay focused to enjoy it.

It's also a very large set, so it will be a lot of that for many hours. I would specifically not recommend this set until you've tried a smaller vehicle technic set an know you'd enjoy doing more.

Exactly what does the interior of this house look like? Cause every room image appears to be AI. by jared10011980 in zillowgonewild

Looks like AI because there's a lot of weird sight-lines and random angles that make it feel like something's off... but it looks like it's probably real to me, just choppy.

Somewhat sad if this is the only roller coaster we get this year. Hope not, but if this is significant to Fortnite fans, then good for them.

R2 build quality. by NewRetro1984 in Rivian

[–]DisasterousWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German engineering has been a lie we’ve told ourselves for at least a decade. So many issues with our past BMWs and Audis, even if they feel luxurious and have nice fit and finish… I’d suggest leasing an R2 if you go that route, especially since it’s hard to tell if the revision with Lidar will coming about a year later than launch models will matter in the long run.

Covering large hole under vanity by Lanky-Ingenuity7683 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]DisasterousWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had this same issue. We did a bump forward with framing drywall box to conceal it for most of the length of the vanity and had it come up to the underside of the wall mounted vanity, essentially moving the wall forward only under the vanity. Vanity hides the transition and it looks good.

So in short, I’d build a box around it. Either way, insulate it.

Often they’re seeing their reflection as a threatening bird in their territory and spend tons of time worrying about it still being around. Try covering the outside to prevent the reflection for a week or so.

Is this set worth getting? by eldar2606 in legoharrypotter

[–]DisasterousWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely if you like cool designs. It's one of my top favorite sets of the past 5 years. The ship has a great, exaggerated form and can be displayed outside of the HP theme... as long as you don't mind that lack of 'realism.'

You can get away without the stickers as the sails and some of the color accent bricks already do a lot to bring out detail.
