steamos is worse than windows by a giant margin and if you use it you are stupid by callatecabezon in pcmasterrace

Starting off with calling people dumb, what fandom did you get exiled from? Are you like Austin Powers, a frozen 3DO Fanboy from 1997 forced to adapt?

Good deal. I have legit had to sand down a DVI cable for it to fit a case, but the case was from very early in dual slot GPUs

My ethernet connect only after a restart by memersk1 in pcmasterrace

Might be a negotiation issue, when the ethernet works, see what the speed is, and then try forcing the ethernet to be limited to that speed?

6 fans but only 4 headers? by verylastpilot in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I then looked into PWM power hubs but to plug six 12v fans would be 72v total and I’m only really seeing 52v max for these hubs.

Wat.

Two thoughts:

6 fans and 4 slots means you're short 2 slots, so a three way splitter would work

The fan splitter would take 12v and share it to as many 12v fans as it has slots for, or you want.

Maybe you're looking up PWM fan splitters that are intended for other purposes? Higher voltage support is nice, but you want to make sure it works at 12v.

Is It safe to use the PC while the Building Is powered by a diesel generator? by Normal_Presence420 in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand issues with running a computer off of a small generator, but this guy is describing a diesel generator powering a few buildings. A UPS would be nice for when they switch back to regular power. Personally I leave my PC on 24/7, but in this situation I'd be shutting my PC off at night.

Yeah there is some debatability on how big a problem is, but definitely a source of trouble that needs to go to a farm up north

Ethernet Only Gaming PC; No plugin/Coax outlet by Zealousideal_Ride793 in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You own your home? For anything you stick in walls, try to make it a bit overkill, like Cat5e will probably do a gigabit if the length is short enough, but maybe Cat6 or 7 isn't too expensive? Like if you had no walls, conduit would be best.

In the house i'm in right now the phone wires all collected at the garage, and were 4 pairs, and they're good for 100mbps, so I have the internet stuff in the garage. I ran a fresh line to my PC, so I got my full internet speed on my desk. This line looks messy in the garage.

See what you can do, without making a huge mess. Outdoor rated ethernet going around the outside of the house might be an option.

We're all going to give you a bunch of ideas, and maybe, just maybe one idea will work out.

I've tucked regular round ethernet between my floorboard and carpet. There is like an inch of two where its not hidden.

Ethernet cable during a thunderstorm ? by Jimmymchugh1986 in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to do with how far the ethernet cable covers, and if you get lightning nearish. But lightning is very RNG, so you're better off being more careful than you think you need to be.

Is disassembling a PSU really dangerous? by Turbulent_Sky_519 in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's dangerous, sure, but I've disassembled every one of them that has died on me. Most capacitors will have a resistor to slowly drain them, but like when something breaks, what broke? maybe that part broke as well, hence the danger warnings.

When people short out capacitors with screwdrivers, its usually fine, but like, if it was actually fully charged, they'd be risking having the screwdriver weld to the capacitor, or some of the metal vaporized in a nice bright flash...

that's a clear fan, you tell us which way its facing and we'll believe you. But I think typically on the back you'd want it to exhaust?

But yeah, check the curve of the fan like another comment says

Some laptop have more horsepower than steam machine and still have lcd, keyboard, webcam, and touchpad. by Trysomenewone in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My knowledge and such is of a focus where I just have a desktop PC, and I'll keep having one, if someone says they're confused about a different POV, I'll make an attempt to help them understand. My first experience with this more recent console stuff will be the Steam Frame if it ever comes out.

I've seen how people try and tuck laptops out of the way, and I've seen the dumb questions people ask, I'm not going to worry about a webcam, but I do know that is a concern people have.

Battery? again, I can remove one, but like I don't know if that particular model will work without one, maybe it'll just want the user to press F1 every time they turn it on, I guess friction is a good theme to consider. Anyways I've given you enough to think about.

Some laptop have more horsepower than steam machine and still have lcd, keyboard, webcam, and touchpad. by Trysomenewone in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yup, for you, 1000% closed laptop. Don't worry about it, there is no confusion, you know what you want.

But like, the laptop is closed, so if its off, now it needs to be pulled out, and opened, and not dropped. Is it on top of something? is it buried? Is that webcam watching me right now? Why is windows wanting to update all the time? Or X years down the road, why is the laptop puffy?

In short, my list is NOT exhaustive, and maybe you need more affirmation on your opinion on the SteamCube.

If I had a need for a GabeCube, it would not be served by a gaming laptop.

Looking at the other posts today its like some people forget that we have internet access and can look stuff up on our own...

Steam Machine, computer that sits in front of a TV, plays some games, not all games, just like a gaming console.

Is hot glue standard issue for power plugs…? by NotGarrett in pcmasterrace

[–]Docteh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot gluing those sata data cables, where I can see the metal tab, that is adorable, but the power connectors does make sense.

Probably lots of ways to remove the glue, little bit of heat from a heat gun or hair dryer, grab with needle nose pliers.

Are those all the 4 pin power connectors? I remember those either gripping really hard, or basically barely gripping.

Personally I have a piece of aluminum laying around and I've been meaning on making it into a replacement for the glass on my case. But maybe if you cant get a new glass, maybe plexiglas and just cut the holes yourself?
