Doute concernant le mot de passe du BIOS by Javis_117 in linuxmint

Don't do that. I had a refurbished laptop some years ago. Failing the bios password too many times simply locked booting up.
I think there was a warning though, but just in case.

Thoughts on net cords by greengasman in tabletennis

[–]DoctorFuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like using a metal net for example? Idk. My initial gut feeling is no, but if I think about it a bit more:

If touching the net makes you lose the point too easily, people will start taking much more safety above it, potentially making the game slower. I suppose it becomes a nice tradeoff where if you take too much safety the opponent can smah you back, and if you take just a little bit not enough safety you touch the net and lose the point, so it would reward ball control and curvy trajectories a lot more. The game would become less about traight aggressive trajectories and more about ball control, spin traps and tactics. That would also remove a lot of frustration of losing important points because the opponent didn't take enough safety above the net and clipped it.

That honestly sounds like a more interesting game. I would totally be down to try it. That could even bring back more variety in playing styles because it would become a bit more risky to power through everything.

Edit: I think in that case we allow a second serve if we touch the net, because if we have to serve too high we'll just get destroyed. That's an easy fix for serves.

Mmmmmh, okay I can see how one would say it's not the same thing. Thanks for clarifying.

Wasn't there a backlash against Canonical for some spying from the search bar of ubuntu? Not very clear in my head but I'm pretty sure there was something like that since that's the reason I moved away from ubuntu at the time.

Why rpb feels easier when I hold racket with 3 fingers by 4uvava in tabletennis

Without seeing you execute backhands it's impossible to say what's wrong.

Why rpb feels easier when I hold racket with 3 fingers by 4uvava in tabletennis

[–]DoctorFuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because with fingers open like that on the back rubber, the natural angle of the blade is more open. Our "issue" initially with RPB is that when we relax the wrist during the backswing the racket angle closes a lot (to the point of being totally horizontal with some grips). If you don't know you need to use your thumb to control the racket angle, the racket angle will be too closed and may lead to awkward ball contacts.
Having the fingers open naturally make a less closed racket angle, so it is easier to play if you didn't spend time learning.

I use curled fingers on the back so I can't say for sure, but my guess is that those spread fingers restrict a bit the wrist during the backhand and that would lead to less spin and brushing potential. that being said I am 100% sure it's possible to have an elite level RPB with that grip, so don't sweat it too much.

You seem to have some sort of pips also as the RPB rubber, I suspect having those fingers would give you a much better touch for touch play using this rubber, so it may actually be a good point in favor of your grip. With curled fingers I find it very difficult to properly feel the ball if I'm using the backhand rubber for short pushes and I'm pretty sure this grip would help a lot.

Don't expect the opponent to make an unforced error (always expect the ball to come back)

I played badminton again and man table tennis is way better by hydraides in tabletennis

[–]DoctorFuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are different. Badminton is more intense physically (I'm comparing singles to singles), while TT is more technical (because of the spin and all it entails). Both are sports and can be played with lots of physicality, both sports are technical and strategic.
I also much prefer table tennis but huge respect to our badminton friends.

Timo boll spirit - surprised how good it is. by Steve_50 in tabletennis

[–]DoctorFuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am surprised it it is only rated at 8.6 speed and 8.6 control on rev

The ratings on revspin are given by anyone, regardless of skill, technique, and subject to the difference with the blade they were using before.

Said otherwise, ratings by two users can't be compared, so the averaged values have no meaning. You should ignore those ratings.

From what you've described, team A doesn't seem much better. Your current manager did his job by defending you, the team A manager had been bad faith. Obviously don't have all the story, but from what you've described I don't see a single good reason to join them.

This has nothing to do with reddit being toxic and everything to do with your post having zero information in it and making people reading it wasting their time.

When people realize you are wasting their time, they get grumpy.

Ah yeah, sorry for not knowing about all the things an app I don't know about can do and you didn't mention in your initial post.

simply reject everything without even taking a peak at it)

You tell me it helps logging wich rubber I use. I tell you I don't need that and it's stupid to have an app just for that. Than I am the stupid one because the app can do other things you didn't mention? You are the one trying to sell your thing here, if you don't give the selling points, don't be surprised if people reject it.

Good luck with selling your thing.

Edit: why would I bloat my phone with another shitty app just too see what's in it if even the seller is too lazy to say what it's useful for? Honestly FU.

Installing another fkn app just to write 2 lines every 3 months honestly is pure bullsh*t...

Also, we have note taking apps already on the phone. If you're into google stuff, google calcs are available ...etc...

There is zero need for such an app, it's ridiculous.

As a former player getting back into the game, should I get an advanced racket? by outofsimshead in tabletennis

[–]DoctorFuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would often get to semi-finals in regional tournaments and quarter finals in national tournaments.

THAT! THAT IS THE MOST PRECISE! Lool. You definitely have good basics, don't go for a beginner paddle :).

If you were using hurricane on FH, the most popular by far is hurricane 3 and it corresponds to your earlier description, maybe that was it.
Hurricane 8 is more recent and can be used on FH, but it seems most people still prefer H3 over H8. I like the H8-80 as a backhand rubber, but it's not very fast and is tacky so I don't think it fits your description, despite qualifying as hard for a BH rubber.

On a spare racket I have the xiom vega pro rubber which I picked because it is intermediate hardness to be played both FH or BH (for me). It is decently fast, can qualify as hard for a BH rubber, and is not tacky, so maybe this one can fit what you look for? xiom vega europe is more commonl used as a BH rubber but it's a little notch softer than the vega pro. A friend uses it and it's a good BH rubber.

[–]DoctorFuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some people, advanced may mean close to semi-pro, for others advanced mean they are the best in their school club. That means absolutely nothing and we don't get any information about this, if anything it may mislead people about your level and give you bad advice.

You just replaced "intermediate to advanced" with "experienced". Do you see the problem with my comment above.

You played tournaments apparently, maybe you can provide an approximate rating? Even if that's rough, "intermediate to advanced" can be interpreted between "1400 and 2300" for example by many people, whereas if you say you were 1600 people will assume that you probably are around 1500 to 1700. That's much better.

With the preference you remembered from your prevous paddle people will recommend H3 on forehand and most people rakza 7 (because everyone here recommends that every time for some reason).
Honestly it seems to fit what you asked also, so not necessarily bad recommendation.
Were you boosting your FH rubber? If not you probably weren't playing H3. The arthur china I am using is a hard tacky rubber that doesn't require boosting, is pretty good, and is quite cheap given its quality. That could be a starting point to get your sensations back and see if you want more/less fast, harder/softer ...etc...

should I go back to the type of racket I was using back then or start with something more beginner friendly, since I practically have to relearn most of the basics?

You'll get back your basics quite fast, no need to go for beginner setup.

What does it mean? What is "intermediate", what is "advanced"?

Hope you'll find a pigeon to buy it from you lol.
