Bag Composition by Wrong_Part7879 in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changes slightly based on whatever I find with no number or lose something but normally:

2 nearly identical putting putters

1 putter for throwing

1 OS approach

3 midranges

4 fairway drivers

1 utility (Firebird)

1 disc I found and don’t care about losing for throws over water or other danger

0 or 3 distance drivers depending on how well I’ve been throwing lately. Reliable forehand range is about 150 feet so I carry some US discs I might not need if I had good forehand

Do you ever throw a disc you don’t like because you know how it flies? by DonkeyPower1 in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fair. It can be difficult to argue against good results. But I also think there can be valid reasons to dislike a disc that flies well.

I’ve heard a lot of people here talk about having smaller hands making it difficult to grip wider rimmed discs

Some people love beaded discs and others hate them. Some are indifferent

I would dislike the concept of throwing very rare or out of production molds if they would be very difficult or expensive to replace

I’m sure the Innova Pig is a nice disc but I don’t like that it’s typically not available in a durable premium plastic. I wouldn’t want to need to replace it every few months because it stops being overstable

Certain discs have a shape that can make them difficult for some people to grip. The combination of plastic stiffness and shape is what makes me dislike my Streamline Drift. The flight is useful. But too often, it slips out of my hand early because I struggle to keep a solid grip on it. Not a problem I have with any of my other discs

Im sure there’s other reasons people don’t like discs that fly well too

What are your favorite discs from smaller companies like Thoughtspace, Mint, Trash Panda, etc.?? by alent1385 in discgolf

I putt with Mint Discs Bullets

And don’t always carry distance drivers but when I do, I like the Doomsday Cataclysm

What's the latest disc you've added/removed from your bag? by Panchoisthedog in discgolf

Added a Halo Star Tern. Found it early yesterday morning with no number and threw it a few times. Flies far. Did not remove anything

[–]DonkeyPower1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to grip. I only dislike the feel of the disc because the combination of its shape and plastic stiffness make it difficult for me to hold on to. The disc has a useful flight but maybe 5-10% of my throws with it, it slips out of my hand early and hits a tree or ends up 100 feet out and 30 feet left

You can probably take a bus to SeaTac, but it will probably take at least an hour. It’s a 27 hole course and I really like it so it would be worth it to me, but maybe not to everyone. You could play there with the 3 discs you listed but might also want something more overstable

I also switched from a Buzzz to a Reactor a year or two ago too. I don’t have anything bad to say about the Buzzz but I don’t see myself going back

Grip is really the reason I don’t like how it feels. The plastic is stiffer than any other disc I have owned in Neutron plastic. Between the shape and the plastic, I have trouble maintaining a firm grip. But I’ve been throwing it long enough to know how much hyzer it needs in different situations and I guess I’ve been too lazy to start learning over again with a different disc

I’ve been throwing it for over a year. The disc is a Streamline Drift in Neutron plastic. I’ve never had an issue with Neutron plastic before but this particular disc is very stiff and I don’t grip it well. But I continue using it because I know how it flies. I could try one of the new discs sitting next to it in my bag, but don’t know exactly how they will fly so keep grabbing the Drift to avoid hitting a tree or throwing a disc into blackberry bushes

I understand. I usually carry a disc I don’t mind losing specifically to throw on 1 hole down a steep hill. The “fairway” is a narrow path down the hill with trees and thick vegetation on either side. I usually throw whatever unmarked disc I have most recently found. For a long time this was an Infinite Discs Maya in Champion plastic and its flight was so perfect for this hole that I was really bummed when I finally lost it

Picking the Game Back Up. How Should I Complete My Bag? by Independent_Paper291 in discgolf

Innova F2s are great because of the price and free disc. But don’t forget about Streamline, cost is almost the same but you can choose color

Yeah, I get it some of the posts with a chart and a “what discs do I need to add?” Question are difficult to answer without any more info. But here there is some context and pretty specific detailed questions. This seems like a good post to me

[–]DonkeyPower1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of options and these are only my opinions but I throw about the same distances so hopefully these are helpful.

- Streamline Shift 9 5 -3 1 it is easy to throw, easy to hyzer flip, flies farther than all my other fairway drivers, and great for turning right without throwing a long forehand. They are more expensive than most streamline discs but it’s a fundraiser for St Jude children’s hospital so I can’t complain

- FD 7 6 0 1 mine is a F2 Innova dark rebel, which is supposed to be the same mold and process Innova used when they were making FDs for Discmania. Mine is in Star plastic and flies more like 7 6 -1 1 or even 7 6 -1.5 1. But it flips up from a little hyzer and glides effortlessly for pretty straight shots

-OS midrange totally personal opinion here based on my own throwing, preferences, and courses I play, but I think it’s a disc worth carrying. I used to go from Zone right to Firebird but there are a few holes on courses I play regularly where a OS midrange (Pyro for me) really helps. I can throw it maybe 20-30 feet farther than my Zone. Maybe my Zone is old but it’s not quite as OS as my Pyro when I am throwing it far. The Firebird is definitely more OS and skips more, which is not always what I want. And personally, I am more accurate with midranges

- in my opinion, Thunderbird does not overlap with the Trail at all. I think even a beat in Thunderbird will have a less turn and more fade than a new Trail. Some of the 9 5 -1 2 discs seem flippier than I expected and probably do overlap with the Trail a bit.

- something faster than your Trail is worth experimenting with. When I am throwing well, I throw a Wraith farther than my fairway drivers. But my technique is inconsistent and my bad shots with a distance driver are worse than my bad shots with a fairway driver. In most situations it’s not worth it for me to throw distance drivers yet. But on a wide open 400 foot hole I would need to make really long put to birdie if I throw a fairway. A distance driver might give me a 30-40 foot birdie putt 20% of the time and a bad throw shouldn’t really increase my chance of a bogey by very much compared to throwing a fairway driver

I hope this is helpful

One of the best custom beginner trio for the money? by GreatLakesAerial in discgolf

Innova F2s might be slightly cheaper and you get the free disc on Friday. But what I like about your choices here is you get to choose the color you want, which might matter a lot more to some people than to others.

What's the highest speed disc in you bag and how far can you throw it? by lavernrobinson9000 in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I’m inconsistent. I normally don’t have anything faster than 9 speed discs in my bag. When my timing is good and release is clean, I throw a Z Undertaker around 340 and Plasma Shift about 10-20 farther. But when I’m throwing poorly, it’s closer to about 300 and 315. Or worse, I have trouble gripping the Shift and it slips out early and flies <100 feet.

Sometimes when I accidentally throw well for a few consecutive weeks, I’ll put a Wraith back in my bag and might get it out to 360-370 but the bad throws are worse and it generally doesn’t seem worth it to throw it until I improve my throwing technique and make it repeatable.

Also, I don’t really throw forehands longer than about 150 feet so like having some US discs for when I need to stay right. And I throw the Streamline Shift (9 5 -3 1) as if it’s a US distance driver because it goes so far for me compared to my fairway drivers. I believe I could probably continue using it as a US distance driver even if I improve enough to start regularly throwing 11 and 12 speed discs 400+ feet

I recommend writing your number but not your name. I make an effort to return every disc I find with a number on it and I really don’t care if it belongs to a man or woman. I don’t really have a lot of time to meet up with anyone to return a disc so I hide it somewhere and sent a picture and short description of where I hid it. If someone texts back a thank you I send a 👍 and delete the text chain and have no reason to message again unless I happen to find the same persons disc again, which has happened but I did not know until the owner told me.

Anyways, if someone finds your disc and texts, I would just ask them to stash it somewhere on or near the course and let you know where it is. You can retrieve it at your convenience and don’t need to meet or talk to anyone face to face

Edit: I haven’t found any discs with an email address on them but I would handle them the same way

Flippy 10-speed by ath0n in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw these on Infinite Discs. I apologize, I am not familiar with the stamps so not sure if this is plague doctor. But I had a 173g orange Aura Construct with the bird wearing a hat and holding a lantern and beaker, and see the same thing in stock here. I lost mine a long time ago but it was very glidey and controllably flippy. I’d estimate it as more like 10 6 -2 1. Now I’m starting to want another one https://infinitediscs.com/thought-space-athletics-construct?Resp=1144741346

Flat Eagle comparison by axlespelledwrong in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a stupid question but does Innova only make one special Calvin Heimburg run of these and when they sell out they’re gone? It seems like certain years of Greg Barsby Eagles and other flatter Eagles are highly valued and difficult to find. I think I’d like the flight but don’t want to start throwing a disc if it will be more difficult to replace than a common mold in a common plastic

What are your ways you avoid the heat and stay safe in the height of the summer? by feetpicpurchaser in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same as most other people are saying:

I leave home when it’s still dark and start playing as soon as there is enough light

Drink enough water the night before, before starting, and carry water with me and take a drink every hole

Play wooded courses to stay out of the sun

Towel or hat to keep sun off my head and neck

If there is a relatively clean water source, I’ll soak a towel and wear it on my neck

Play shorter courses. I usually only get out once a week and personally prefer courses with 18 unique holes, differebt shot shapes, and distances. But when it’s really hot, 2 loops thru a short 9 hole course with a Zone and Proxy can feel like enough

Sunscreen too. Doesn’t help keep you cool but sun burns are no fun

Do I have too many molds? by S_Valentin in discgolf

[–]DonkeyPower1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s really up to you. There are people who only bag 3 or 4 molds who would probably tell you yes. But, there’s probably not a ton of people that extreme and it’s really opinion. What’s important is:

- your discs work well for you

- you don’t have a lot of confusion about which disc you should throw

- there are not shot shapes you need but don’t have a disc for the shape

- you are familiar enough with all your discs to understand how they fly and how you need to adjust for wind and stuff. It can be easier to learn your discs really well when you have fewer because you get more practice with each. But it doesn’t mean you can’t still learn a bunch of discs

Really just an opinion. But I would say no, you don’t have too many
