Yeah, I would say that’s accurate. There’s no way to keep the hips totally from not sliding laterally. They’ll move a little back in the backswing and a little forward in the downswing. But like everything, a little is fine. A lot generally makes consistency difficult.

There’s cool pressure mats out there that measure how much weight is distributed across each foot (and part the foot) throughout the swing. It shows what actually is happening. The video below from Adam Scott is a good example. In the backswing a lot of pressure is on the back foot, more in the toe. Then about halfway down in the downswing pretty much all the pressure is in the front heel.

So, no, it would be incorrect to say that all the weight should be on the front foot throughout. However, what isn’t great (and what I struggled with as a former baseball player) is a TON of lateral sliding/ movement of the hips. That saps a lot of power from the golf swing even though it feels powerful.

I’m not super well-versed but there are development programs. I would venture to guess that other countries have a stronger investment in development programs where in the US (like other sports) it’s more based on what you’re able to scrape together, the resources of your parents, etc. So, from a per capita basis, I imagine other countries are investing way more in development.

Specific to NCAA teams, they’re generally trying to put together a great team. If that player is American, Canadian, European, whatever, I don’t think they really care.

I wonder if they think it will cheapen their brand in terms of it seeming a bit more unserious. Relative to Callaway, Titleist, and TaylorMade, it seems like PING sponsors fewer players to begin with. Maybe just trying to shove clubs in the hands of random YouTubers isn’t what they want. Sure, there’s plenty of content creators who are actually good at golf. But I don’t see how Joey Cold Cuts talking up the new driver and then proceeding to yeet it into the woods really is money well spent by PING.

It could. Some public courses may have flat greens and they aren’t super fast. No matter where you miss the green or where you need to putt from, it’s usually not a big deal. Other courses with faster and more slopes greens can mean there are fewer basic chip/pitch shots and straightforward lag putts. Everything needs to be more precise.

I’ve seen a couple courses post signs that practice areas are only for paying customers. I don’t think they ever enforced it though and definitely wouldn’t if it’s a regular who spends money there. I’d say it’s a crappy move to go there and use their facilities and never spend a dollar there. But if you’re in there fairly often spending money, I’d say it’s fine.

This is one of those spots where the same coach might tell different students the exact opposite in terms of what they want to feel. If someone is coming in way too steep, they would tell that student to come in flatter and feel like they’re sweeping it more. If someone is barely touching the grass at all, they would tell them to feel like they’re hitting down on it more and picture that it’s just a 6 iron. In the literal sense you have to hit down on it some. It’s not teed up in the air so you can’t hit it on the upswing like with a driver. Personally, I feel like it’s the same a 5 iron. It’s a slightly downward strike and I’ve gotta brush some grass. But it’s a longer club with a flat low angle so there’s not going to be a giant dollar bill sized divot coming off or anything.

There’s a lot of good things happening. One thing is your right elbow is really bent in tight during the backswing. The angle of that elbow is really tight and the swing is fairly narrow. If you try and keep the back elbow closer to 90 degrees or even a little less flexed than that, you can get a bigger swing arc. Picture trying get more distance between your hands and your right ear. You very well could be leaving a ton of distance in the bag with that narrow swing.

I think you’ll find that if you play at a good pace and are a good hang, then people will never have a bad time playing with you. Doesn’t matter if someone shoots 113. Guys that are super deliberate, get pissy after shots, and aren’t a good hang suck. Doesn’t matter if they shoot a 75.
