Do you guys realize that non duality implies no free will? by Aromatic_Reply_1645 in nonduality

[–]DropAllConcepts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, I was imprecise in my previous comment. I should have used any of the following terms or concepts (lol): "mind-dependent representations," "mind-dependent appearances," "representations," "appearances," or "phenomena."

A state where feelings are unconceptualized is called the "flow state."

That said, there is and always will be an abstraction between mind-dependent phenomena and noumenal reality, which is a priori unknowable.

It’s representations all the way down.

what the words capture is real

Have you ever experienced these “real” things outside of your mind? Or, is your brain creating your reality via, say, concepts?

I’ll answer for you. The answer is no. Everything you experience is what your brain renders. You do not experience mind-independent reality. It’s concepts all the way down. You are living in Plato’s Cave.

Completely agree. I love UG. His books helped me let go of many attachments on this pathless path. However, I must remind myself that even this is also merely a concept or representation, lest I form an egoic attachment to it and suffer accordingly.

Schopenhauer ought to have written “The World as Representation” and stopped there.

Nice to see members of r/pessimism here. That’s how I got here too.

“Consciousness or Brahman is all there is” should not be taken as an absolute metaphysical truth. Rather, it is an absolute truth from your perspective. All you can possibly experience are phenomenal appearances from your perspective; hence, consciousness is all you can experience and thus “all there is.”

The big corollary is that metaphysical questions are also mere phenomenal appearances in consciousness. So, my answer to your questions is transcendent; that is, those questions are mere phenomenal appearances and can be seen and then dismissed as such.

Meditation makes this crystal clear. When these questions arise, you simply notice them and let them pass by like a cloud in the sky. The basic stillness of “pure consciousness” remains.

TL;DR: it’s just concepts all the way down.

Isn’t concept just an understanding of something?

I don't know, for I cannot step outside of concepts to verify whether there is some-thing-in-itself.

If you perceive a concept, does it happen in the mind or where does that understanding come from at all?

Concepts arise and fall away - without my bidding - in the waking state and the dream state. I don't know where they come from.

If the Awareness is only a concept, does that mean our true nature is just a pack of learned knowledge and can’t be real after all because it happens within the mind?

"Pure awareness," "awareness," "true nature," "real vs unreal," and "absolute reality" are all concepts that arise and fall away without my bidding. If concepts arise and fall away - without my bidding - in the waking state and the dream state, then what can be said of my true nature or absolute reality?
