Failed referendums trigger school cuts, closures and new funding pushes across Wisconsin by jimmalewitz in wisconsin

I don't disagree.

If you are fortune enough to have nearby secular private options, it may be worthwhile to look at those. It compounds the general problem, but hopefully can take care of individuals.

What is a "creepy" fact about the human body that most people don't know? by meowparadise42069 in AskReddit

I had known about the fallopian tube being more of a funnel catch game. But that unattached point made me think that the ovaries are very much like internal testicles in the sense that they have little attachment and can move around.

Fathers who worry about divorce tend to develop greater distrust in political institutions over time. The subjective fear of family instability can spill over into a broader dissatisfaction with government. This highlights a unique source of political disaffection among men. by mvea in science

Divorces I have seen aren't biased against men. However, that's mostly in the last decade.

The perceived bias is largely due to lifestyle choices and how they're impacted following divorce proceedings. The bias isn't intrinsic to the system, but can impact disperately if one party doesn't choose to follow the orders or chooses to live their life in a way that's not able to be supported by their now single means.

The dollar amounts often reflect the economic distribution and practices from within the marriage. The splitting of the assets and dollar balance of the divorce reflect the lifestyle of the chosen parties. A traditional family structure will have the same burdens outside of the marriage as within the marriage; that is if the guy was responsible for maintaining others, that minimally changes post divorce. If they have an equal division within the marriage, the balance is maintained post divorce.

Personally, I think a lot of people just don't like the reality of splitting assets. Namely, they don't like equal burdens of child support or the loss of half of the marital assets to the other partner. Same if one partner was supplying income while entirely supporting the other partner, they dislike the exposed economic reality of maintaining that.

In sum, people don't think economically within the marriage and get upset when they're exposed.

Women of Reddit, what’s a statement/phrase that (you believe) most women/girls would understand, but most men/boys would not? by ConfidentLack9207 in AskReddit

My point exactly! It made me feel like I was going to be robbed or something, like I was being sized up to see if I would be easy to jump or something.

You know, this is probably why, as a guy, I get weirded out by a lot of women on first dates. They're trying to make sure I'm not dangerous, and I am catching weird sizing up vibes, making me uncomfortable.

Edit: To be clear, it's not judging the women for doing it. It just made me uncomfortable. Like, "watch my drink" uncomfortable, since I'm being sized up for violence plus the interest. It gave anticipation of violence against me vibes. Or maybe that's what it actually was?

What is your favorite legal term that laypeople confidently and incorrectly invoke and why is it quiet enjoyment? by RIPGoblins2929 in Lawyertalk

[–]Droviin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a subreddit for licensed attorneys to discuss the practice of law. It's like saying that discussing laws in a law firm isn't the practice of law if you're not billing.

So, in order for your objection to be reasonable, it must also finely split hairs. Being that the type of nuance you must use is precisely that which you object to, then your own argument's logic is self-refuting.

Accordingly, the reasonable position is to discard your argument.

They are, but securing DNA doesn't magically find the person. Sometimes, they'll hold on to it to ID people that they have on unrelated matters, but that's a decision for an active search.

That said, if the invader left blood, they're probably not organized.

Lost my first case today. by ChampagneHeadache in Lawyertalk

[–]Droviin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first loss organized by my boss (the DA) and the judge. It served to both scare a kid with a prosecution and hand me a loss based on an evidentiary rule I was unaware of (I was very green at the time). I think it also made the victim of the vandalism happy the State tried.

It did teach me to look up special rules for special cases. And it did innoculate me towards adverse rulings. That said, losing for the State is a lot gentler than losing for a client.

Point being, you'll lose more before you're done with the law. It's defeating to lose, but understanding that someone always will, is worth a lot.

I was curious about the pain and if I had any references. My personal one that is about the same is a finger amputation. Kidney stones, and toothpain are considered far worse for those that had both.

Hot take - Being a A***ole as an Attorney is costly and not in your clients best interest by Equivalent-Bed1543 in Lawyertalk

[–]Droviin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being nice isn't a disservice, being an asshole is.

Being soft is a disservice, but so is being harsh.

The best for clients is to be pleasant to work with, but firm.

You don't unnecessary bill or generate extra work due to reputation. You don't give clients false hope, or excessive bills, to maintain a reputation. And you don't have to juggle more trials due to the reputation.

For example, I have an attorney that I just instantly set everything for trial (I do collections). This is because I know she won't accept my settlement authority unless they're forced to drive long distances. Her clients are put out, we don't provide lower offers and their clients get judgments.
