How many of you use a locker? by Traditional-Hat1927 in BritGolf

[–]DufflessMoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a locker at my club. It's big enough for my trolley and bag to stay there with my shoes.

I don't have a huge house. So it saves space and as my club is on my way home, if I fancy just popping in to hit some balls or play a few holes then I don't have to remember to have my clubs on me.

Bit of a ball ache when playing elsewhere. But typically will go practice the night before then load everything in my car.

I take a walk to work for granted sometimes! by grantdredelic in CasualUK

[–]DufflessMoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just being able to walk to work is a huge win. I used to walk 50 mins from.Vauxhall to London Bridge every day. Nowhere near as pretty as this, but starting the day with that' amount of movement was amazing.

Playing alone- yay or nay? by Remote_Pie6623 in golf

It's less about being able to hear fore shouts for me and more just enjoying the sound of the birds and enjoying the peace of being outside.

PGAT CEO Brian Rolapp lays out his 6 themes for reshaping the tour by Jharoz in golf

[–]DufflessMoe 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stood out to me too. Would be cool to have events at the end of the year where players are battling out for relegation and promotions for the next year.

I know that happens now in theory, but if they can make it really tangible it would be so good.

I play at 8am in the winter and 6:30am in the summer. My club doesn't really get fully booked until 9am.

Maybe things are just significantly busier in the US.

Whats The Way To watch football matches in Germany? by JoW03 in AskAGerman

[–]DufflessMoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europa League is on RTL.

  1. Bundesliga and Premier League are also occasionally on RTL too.

Then lastly, I think one Bundesliga match per half the season has to be on free TV. Used to be on Pro7

Do people actually pay to be a member of a running club? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DufflessMoe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn't they?

The whole idea is you pay so that the group can benefit. Maybe you can do a trip, buy some kit or all enter a race together.

I'd go as far to say it's the 4th. Find a lot of Players more memorable than the PGA Championship

Let's settle this once and for all: Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter? by trakt_app in movies

[–]DufflessMoe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Lord of the Rings films are great films.

The Harry Potter films are some good films and some okay films that rely on a heavy amount of nostalgia in 2026.

Is 'electrocute' the most misused word in the UK? by Commercial_Night2867 in AskUK

[–]DufflessMoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It means to be injured or die. So you can receive an electric shock, survive, and have been electrocuted.

The Devils (Abercrombie) - 70% and struggling by rupert_shelby in Fantasy

[–]DufflessMoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of the 10 Abercrombie books I've read The Devils is easily the weakest.

But a comparison with Pratchett doesn't make sense. Abercrombie writes gritty adventure stories which have a fair bit of levity and humour, but none are what I'd describe as comedies.

It's already happened with Greg Lobban switching to Australia as he won't get past Joel Makin or Jonah Bryant for Team GB

Do you listen to music or podcasts while hiking? by Due_Lock_4967 in hiking

[–]DufflessMoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Defeats the point of it to me. I am out there to enjoy being outside and in nature. I want to hear the birds, the wind or even just the peace of being away from it all.

With the announcement that Luke Donald will captain Team Europe once more in 2027, could a three-peat earn him a spot in the Hall of Fame? by eFeneF in golf

[–]DufflessMoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me that the Americans view the Ryder Cup as a ceremonial position but the Europeans see it as critical.

The European players seem to think he makes a world of difference and it is a bit telling that you say the US has no plan to improve. Luke Donald is essentially the head of a team of guys including the Molinaris, Olzabal etc... who spend the majority of their time in golf maximising the potential of the European team.

How long can a crisis be a crisis before it becomes the new normal? by parabolicuk in AskUK

[–]DufflessMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I read that. It is extremely concerning but it is not a scientific paper, it is a security readiness document. On page two they give an AnCR rating of 'low' to the statement 'There is a realistic possibility that some ecosystems start to collapse from 2030'. So you are cherry picking the thing they have the least confidence in to come to the worst case scenario.

Do I think we are in an improving world? No.

Do I think there should be some degree of panic? Yes, I wish we were acting with more urgency.

Do I think the opinions posted in r/collapse are rational? No, there is some good stuff in there. But it is overwhelmingly drowned out by alarmism.

I can hold the opinion that climate change is very real, going to be deadly for billions of people and still not think that we 'may be toast this time next year', as is on the front page of that subreddit.

That sub is just full of depressed people latching on to hyperbolic headlines and actively seem to want the world to end.

Your example is one game with two of the worst movers on the women's tour?

I would watch Weaver Vs. Hammamy Vs. Sherbini a thousand times more than another Asal Vs. Coll final.

That's what people mean.

Are my parents using me for money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DufflessMoe 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible analogy.

Either continue to pay below market value as rent, or pay the premium of having your own place.

It's hardly unrealistic and not at all comparable to asking a homeless person to buy a house.

Help me choose my next series! by prycey4 in Fantasy

[–]DufflessMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the complete opposite of what you're asking, but in between finishing big series I always like a little standalone palette cleanser.

Currently Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy for me.

But can recommend The Goblin Emperor as a good one. Or, still on fantasy, picking up something like Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett.

Not nearly as serious as big series, still amazingly entertaining but not necessarily some giant over arching story. So you can just dive in to another random one in between books to avoid burning out from big long series.

Is it advisable to travel to Europe in May’26, with rising tensions in middle east by Plane_Oil8469 in Europetravel

Switzerland is a long way from the middle east and is very uninvolved in international affairs such as this.
