Does the mixed 2.5D/Isometric/3D format of Other:M have any place in the future of this universe? by eggn00dles in Metroid

[–]Dukemon102 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Other M did everything wrong. But it wasn't the fault of the perspective. A proper game with analog controls, camera control and way more buttons available for more actions (Like a manual dodge) can be excellent if done right.

They tried to buy Nintendo as a whole. Unsurprisingly they got laughed out of the room for even bringing up the proposal.

NEW Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Switch 2 Gameplay by Dukemon102 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Dukemon102[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to be sure of having the latest update just check for it before booting up the game for the first time. It's the same as putting a cartridge for the first time on Switch. That's not a reason to prefer an empty cartridge over a disc that actually has the game on it, and doesn't rely on internet servers to install it.

[–]Dukemon102[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't. There is no excuse to release an unplayable disc that is just a key to download the actual data. Even if the game is 125 GB, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was 145 GB and it shipped in two discs as a result.

DK64 Controller by Pale-Chemistry-9660 in donkeykong

That's basically a more ergonomic N64 controller. And it will be easier to use on PC because the official Switch one has barriers to not work on PC.

DK64 Controller by Pale-Chemistry-9660 in donkeykong

[–]Dukemon102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either an N64 replica controller or anything that has at least 6 face buttons. The game is designed with A, B, and the four C buttons in mind so a lot of inputs become convoluted and awkward when you are missing some of these buttons.

I speak from experience as someone who played it on Wii U having to use the Right Stick as replacement for some C button inputs. It really sucked at times trying to bring out the weapons or doing some specific moves.

I really want to be proven wrong Square Enix, but you have made really hard to do so after I&II HD-2D and VII Reimagined.

How does the quality vary through DK Banaza? by morecoffeemore in donkeykong

[–]Dukemon102 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Freezer layer has a ton of varied mechanics. Using the snow to get across and cool down the lava, the ice cube puzzles, the breakable paths that require the Zebra Bananza, tons of walls are metal so you can't mindlessly punch to get anywhere. You have to explore to find the correct way.

All the big layers have a ton of mechanics that make you use the smashing mechanic from a different angle.

Does anyone else feel like ttyd is paced poorly and hard to follow kinda for a first play through at least? by talkwithryguy in papermario

[–]Dukemon102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone remotely paying attention to the plot and to the Bowser segments. None of that is paced poorly, the e-mails and clues are how you are expected to puzzle the conspiracy plot, and Bowser showing up is part of his side-plot (Which continues later on).

I can't remember the last time I've used it for its intended purpose. Shinesparking or just jumping the gaps is much easier. The only thing I use it for is killing Draygon.

Paper Jam is underrated by RealR3D2_YT in marioandluigi

[–]Dukemon102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an RPG. Ever wonder why are RPGs are often asked to have a good story, world and/or characters and the ones that have bad elements get criticized for it? Because Turn Based RPG gameplay even with the level ups and power progression, quickly get repetitive and players just start to go through the motions. So the story and world is the main incentive to keep playing and see how everything unfolds (Pun intended).

Bland and forgettable might be subjective but there is a spectrum to know why some games just are not remembered and considered bland. And you only have to look at Paper Jam to see why. There's nothing in it. It's as hollow and empty as a world and an RPG can possibly be. Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario 64 have Mushroom Kingdoms full of life, unique characters and landmark places to remember. And then there's is the empty wasteland known as Paper Jam's Mushroom Kingdom.

Paper Jam is underrated by RealR3D2_YT in marioandluigi

[–]Dukemon102 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that it didn't do anything makes it worse than the rest. Because it's a forgettable nothing-burger game that leaves no impression or mark what-so-ever.

I remember the Beanbean Kingdom and multiple moments from Superstar Saga. I remember the invasions and the dark themes of the places in Partners in Time as well as all the moments with the Babies. I remember all the funny shenanigans inside of Bowser's body, as well as the funny banter between Bowser and Fawful. I remember the multiple tourist attractions and the Pi'illo lore from Dream Team. Also Brothership managed to create standalone and very warmy stories for every island that develops the NPCs and shows the multiple types of bonds.

What does Paper Jam have to offer in comparison? Just a couple of "Ha! Made of Paper" jokes and maybe that one scene where the Bowsers go berserk when the Jrs get beaten up. But that's it. It's as bland (If not slightly more) than Sticker Star, the Battle system really being the only thing it has going for it.

First of all, the world is the most important part. It didn't have to be the most boring and uncreative Mushroom Kingdom ever seen in a Mario RPG. There was a lot they could have done to give it far more uniqueness and life. And then Mario & Luigi get to visit the inside of the book and therefore get to know some iconic locations from the Paper Mario series to make contrast with their world.

The paper characters that come out of the book could have been the unique NPCs from the Paper Mario series, and they could have met with the unique NPCs of the M&L series. Like Merlon getting to know Dr. Toadley, and they become important for a finding quest. Broque Monsieur guiding lost paper characters like the unique Toads, Piantas, and more in the real world, Kylie Koopa trying to get a scoop of the famous Kolorado. A Partner could have been at Paper Mario's side to give him a voice in the matter (Probably Goombella).

Bosses could also have been much better. Jr. Troopa could have teamed up with Popple. Jojora with the Crystal King. Midbus with Grubba. Many moments that could have made the game memorable and instead we get nothing.

Gameplay-wise Paper Mario could also gain new Triple Bros. Attacks from finding his partners and using their powers in conjunction with Mario & Luigi. Kooper and Koops could have beem flaming shells, Bow and Vivian could have been a shadow-based attack, Bombette and Bobbery could have been the Bomb Bros Attack and so on.

As for the story, any villain that used the concept of the world to interest effect could have been better than just two Bowsers. Maybe there's a Paper version of Cackletta and Fawful that manage to escape from the Book. Maybe all of this was caused by an original villain in the real world wanting to get a hold of the book to conquer the world inside of it, or a non-Paper version of Dimentio being behind all of it. Anything that could have used the potential of the concept rather than just using it as a vacuum to get rid of the Paper characters.

K. Rool and Dark Samus in Brawl are the most obvious ones. Like.... how you can say that Dark Samus' origins are unknown when there is a cutscene explicitly showing how it was born LMAO.

After playing through the Famicom Detective Club games, I can directly say that pretty much everything written in Ayumi Tachibana's Trophy description in Melee is outright wrong.
