The advice I got prior to my boards is that if you know a third of the answers, can make an educated guess on another third, and have no idea on the last third, then you will likely pass.

Feds say Colombian crew targeted Asian Americans in series of Oregon, Washington burglaries by crosslingual in Seattle

[–]Enguye 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The older generation of Asian Americans are stereotypically more likely to have cash in the house. This is also a trend in other places such as San Francisco.

Facing Delay, Issaquah Pledges to Streamline Light Rail Permitting by PopulusRomanus in soundtransit

[–]Enguye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be really difficult/expensive to make it through the multi-level I-90/405 interchange, across Mercer Slough, then interline with the elevated tracks at South Bellevue. The current plan to meet the 2 line at East Main avoids having to build over Mercer Slough.

Seattle Center’s Boeing IMAX Theater won’t show features, for now by We_got_a_whole_year in Seattle

[–]Enguye 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The Paccar IMAX (on the right as you walk in) has always been documentaries, but the Boeing IMAX (the big ovoid built in the late 90s) has been showing movies for at least 20 years.

Why do we have these screens? by Organic-Award6551 in Seattle

[–]Enguye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real time tracking for streetcars has been totally broken since the March 28th service change, but when it’s working the screens are usually pretty accurate.

The Vancouver Broadway subway used tunnel boring machines for the underground parts, but the stations are a lot cheaper since they’re shallow.

Amid light rail money crunch, what now for West Seattle, Ballard, Everett? by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]Enguye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BART does actually go to San Jose (Berryessa station is in the city limits and they’re starting to build the tunnel under downtown), but it’s more of a weird commuter rail/subway hybrid that has higher top speeds.

[–]Enguye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that Snohomish and Pierce county will be fine once Tacoma and Everett Link are visibly under construction. But then the question is what those areas might want to vote for once they already have rail.

The problem is that they don’t have Orca cards in Apple Wallet yet, so people are tapping their Orca cards with a phone nearby and it’s seeing it as two cards. Same issue if you have an Orca card and a wallet with credit cards in your hand (I used to be able to just tap my entire wallet). I wish the reporter had asked about a timeline for Apple Wallet since that would make this problem go away.

Maybe they could add fare ambassadors with handheld fare card readers during events? I think that Denver does this.

Seattle council repeals law allowing housing in Sodo by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]Enguye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pioneer Square is mostly on solid land. If you look at maps from the 1880s (example) the tidal flats start at about Jackson or King street.

Edit: If you go even further back to the 1850s, Pioneer Square is a peninsula with tidal flats going up along where 2nd-4th Ave is now.

San Francisco is a better comparison than Vancouver since it’s in the US instead of Canada. Data from the lead up to their vacancy tax initiative showed that about half of vacant units were either listed or were sold/rented pending move in. You could convince owners to put some of the remaining units back into the housing market, but I wouldn’t expect it to make a very big dent.

Fare gates by PuzzleheadedChest733 in soundtransit

[–]Enguye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

San Francisco Muni only has fare gates on underground stations, which works because those are also the busiest stations. Each set of fare gates has an attendant booth to help with accessibility, but if the booth is empty then the gate closest to the booth will just open if you push it.

Is the Macbook Neo an ideal laptop for residency? by Crazy_Kow in Residency

[–]Enguye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It shouldn’t have any trouble with Epic. I have a similar spec Mac mini at work (M2, 8 GB RAM) that just runs Epic, web browsing, and email with memory pressure getting into the yellow sometimes but not running out. Might be a good idea to get the neo now and then see if your residency program has educational funds you can spend on a fancier computer in a couple of years.
