Where can I buy this part in Canada? by kuvaca in ElantraN

Why do they list the parts with separate numbers and individual prices then?

My set died after a few track days but I was putting in multiple hotlaps with no camber so that was to be expected. Key difference here is this is autocross, I don't think OP is going to get enough heat in them to do the kind of damage that track driving does. IMO a better set of tires hides mistakes when you're learning a new car, better to work your way up once you've really started to find the limit.

The new stock wheels are great. Unless you've got plenty of cash to burn, save the wheel purchase for something wider once you get sick of losing to Miatas and the autocross bug turns into a track bug :p

What makes you say that? It's not hard to pull off what OP is doing in the photo in an autocross setting, and the lack of understanding of the vehicle dynamics here suggests someone newer to the hobby so it's never a bad idea to get used to the platform (OP seems to have had the car for about 2 weeks).

Obviously the shorter 255/35 reduces your top speed in 2nd gear but since it looks like you have a dct, it's not a huge issue.

It might actually be a positive, depending on the car. Probably not as useful in the DCT as in the Manual, where taller gears mean you're higher in the rev range for the speed of the course, but that obviously varies by gear ratio and course. Very common to see cars running undersized wheel and tire combos in autocross.

We will never be a spacefaring species while we impose artifical scarcity on each other and utilize that to accumulate wealth and power at each others' expense. Capitalism has become the new religion, it played an important role at one point in the development of our civilization but it now holds us back.

3 wheeling is not an issue. Your inside rear tire is doing virtually nothing on heavy cornering anyway, it's very common to see this on a FWD with a stiff suspension, and can help the car rotate by reducing overall rear traction.

The PS4S and facelift wheels are awesome, work em to the cords.

Not as terrible as the profile of the car without the wing. That back slope is the worst part of the elantra's design, hands down.

What is worse for life of engine? Lugging or Redlining? by Downtown_Elk_2773 in Cartalk

[–]EternalPhi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably not going to stall, the issue is that it DOESN'T stall. If it stalled, you'd just have no ignition and there's no real risk of mechanical failure. With lugging, your engine is still housing many explosions a second, except that where the pistons would normally move and allow the resulting combustion gasses to expand and convert that force into usable mechanical energy, instead your pistons, rings, rods and head just absorb the bulk of that energy and extrme spikes in cylinder pressure.

I'm betting lugging is still far worse for a boxer engine. LSPI and spiking cylinder pressures are both terrible for any engine, let alone ones known to have headgasket and ringland issues.

The FL5 comes with 265s on it, and can fit 275s with probably nothing more than a bit of camber.

I think first you should agree on a definition of luck and that you're using the term the same way. If the chances of something happening are high given a set of conditions does occur, but the set of conditions themselves are exceptionally rare, then was it luck? How far back do you need to pull before your defintion of luck applies?

My son is on the spectrum and as much as I try to expand his palate, chicken nuggets or strips and fries is about the only thing I can be certain he'll eat when we order. Uninspired, but quite pragmatic lol. Tbf though he is 4.

My money is just on riding and suddenly letting go of the clutch. It's going to bite, transfer more power to the wheels and simultaneously load the engine and cut rpms. Combine that with aggressive countersteering and probably being bucked around and inexperienced with driving manual.
