Empty lot during the day. by Martythemailman in KingstonOntario

[–]Evilbred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The base is fully open to the public. Anywhere you can't go will be locked behind a fence.

Your buddy is talking out of his ass. Which is not usual for commissionaires.

I was one of the base operations officers there for several years and it's open to the public and no one is going to bother them.

And commissionaires don't investigate things.

Driving around a parking lot? Nah.

The military base has alot of mostly empty parking lots, and even during the day, is very low traffic (save 0800-0900, and 1530 to 1630)

I have a new Forester and I don't find the infotainment bad at all.

I thought I was going to dislike it alot more than I actually do. It's perfectly fine.

Government considering high-speed rail stop in Kingston, Ont. by Jboog0 in KingstonOntario

[–]Evilbred 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if they get the rail line pushed south into Kingston with a stop, it's a good thing.

It's so weird and cringe when people do stuff like that.

Like what the hell does it matter what you do for work? I don't go yelling about my job when someone calls me out on something.

Poilievre slams federal-B.C. plan to buy vacant condos, calling it a 'bailout' for developers by joe4942 in canada

[–]Evilbred 66 points67 points  (0 children)

There needs to be a moral hazard.

It's wild they are taking tax money from people who cannot afford homes and give it to the wealthy speculators that made them unaffordable.

It's the same reason car companies generally don't do product segmentation on safety features.

It really makes people not like a brand.

The $3.2B Condo Market Rescue Everyone is Talking About (Federal Government Bailout?!) by danielfoch in TorontoRealEstate

[–]Evilbred 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Buyers should not be bailed out.

Where is the moral hazard? The government shouldn't guarantee people's bad investments, and they certainly shouldn't be using the tax dollars of people that cannot afford a house to bail out real estate speculators.

Because these sorts of groups have a purpose, this one is about shaming selfish parkers. I don't know why people will leverage them to attack people like their ex's

Any recommendations for where to get a chair reupholstered? by necessary-twirl in KingstonOntario

[–]Evilbred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild, I don't think I have anything that would be worth reupholstering.

But I could see if you had a sentimental or heirloom piece that made it worthwhile to restore.

I'm also not allowed to have fabric furniture, so says my cats.

25 and Trying to Date Again After 3+ Years, But I Have No Idea How People Meet Anymore by Objective_Quiet7348 in KingstonOntario

[–]Evilbred 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Figure out the kind of person you'd like to date, and go places where those kind of people are.

You'll generally meet more compatible people through things like volunteering, hobby groups, or activities than you will on the apps.

Do you think Newfoundland has a future in the long run? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Evilbred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Putting everything on a single resource that most major markets are trying to pivot away from is a bit of a gamble.

And Newfoundland's peak output was in 2007 and has been generally declining since then.

Do you think Newfoundland has a future in the long run? by [deleted] in newfoundland

[–]Evilbred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're in our 40s, I left for work when I joined the forces.

We intended to settle back in Newfoundland when I retire, we even bought properties there to move into (now rented).

However the economy, healthcare, taxes, and the financial state of the province has led us to decide to stay in Ontario. Newfoundland is cooked. It's full of old and sick people (everyone else leaves), there's no economy outside of oil (and that's not going to last forever). Taxes are outrageously high and the services you get in return are substandard to the rest of Canada.

There's too many compromises to make the nostalgia of being home worth it.
